Don't worry we WILL se a refreshed iMac in 2012. I have yet to walk into any third-party reseller with normal stock levels. It's been like this for a few weeks. This has nothing to do with not being able to keep up with the demand for the 2011 iMacs.

Or maybe they are selling hotter than ever to uninformed masses that are just buying up anything with an :apple: on it. Causing Apple to not refresh, because hey, we're rich, bitch.

If we get nothing by Black Friday, I may have to get the 2011 refurbished and sell my mid-2010 in order to keep up with resale value.

John Lewis UK online.

iMac stock. ZERO 0 non. Etc.

Over the last few weeks they have had the odd one of each model, but no tonight.

Things like that were written some month ago and nothing happened
...
There are no rumours of an upcoming refresh...
There are no photos of a redesigned IMac...
So for me there is no chance to see a new one this year...

Sleep well!

Ok, looking bad with invitations...

Philip Elmer-DeWitt, the Fortune analyst who originally started the rumor about an Apple event on October 17th, has now formally apologized and retracted the rumor.

I'd almost go ahead and do that, but none of the refurbs in the Apple store offer the SSD+HD option :(

Given a choice, I would have liked to have the SSD and the 2TB HDD with my refurb, but my media library is so large that it would not fit on a 2TB HDD. So only having the SSD is not a hardship for me as I have two 4TB external HDDs connected by FW800 (which is plenty fast enough).

:D:D:D

The waiting continues. Good thing I've got my console games to keep my occupied.

I've just had an odd thought and I'm hoping its wrong, but what if apple are making their products releases more structured. The iToys sell in their millions, yet the iPad is released In march... If they are to release an iPad mini in the very near future, they may well update the larger iPad to the new a6 chip and new dock (not a massive thing to accomplish in 7 months). This would leave the first half of the year open for macs of all kinds. I'm beginning to doubt we'll see it this year. What do you all think?

This isn't necessarily a bad thing for iMacs. And if iPad minis come out this year, next year or never I couldn't care less. It's a product nobody needs...IMO

Tick tock. If the situation wasn't so damn annoying, and I hadn't been balls deep into its ecosystem I may have been able to appreciate the funny side of seeing a company f#ck up so much with its cycles.

Windows 8 - how much of a factor ?

As a current Windows user, and someone who desperately want to switch to an iMac, I just wonder whether the launch of 8 is a factor in Apple plans for new iMac launch. I'm sure the marketeers in any normal business would have their carefully crafted and cunning plan to spoil the Microsoft party ?

Against a background of very 8 capable and technically up to date Windows all in ones, would Apple be so arrogant as to not even blink about 8 ? I'd have expected they must be understanding that iMacs are in a sector that to grow market share, they need to get right ? Much of the market is waiting for 8 to prompt a new machine purchase, and some of that market are potential switchers.

Maybe I'm naive and not understanding enough of Apple culture, but to a marketeer, Windows 8 isn't just a background and insignificant distraction.

Nothing yet. I will wait until the end of october as many others here and if there won't be any announcement I will probably go for the Dell Optiplex AIO 9010 with i5 3550 ivy, USB 3, 1TB, and 4GB ram (I will add another 8) and I will be just fine...
If they don't want our money we can spent them somewhere else.

My thoughts exactly.

Not releasing anything this year is not the worst scenario - much worse would be if they release a 21" retina iMac this fall/holidays, accompanied by the usual thunder© and lightning© attitude and postpone the 27" for some soon-2014-probably future.

Or another factor could be Jupiter being aligned with Mars or the sell by date on today's prawn sandwiches. Let's face it I think these are about the only two scenarios left that haven't been mentioned. I will only start to worry if there hasn't been an update by around summer 2015.

Why change?
Your resale of your mid 2010 is presently not being effected by a new model your machine is only 1 generation back... from a machine available new today? and still commands a very good resale.

That said both it and the 2011 model will drop dramatically if Apple ever get round to releasing another iMac and I am sure you will see a lot of 2011 machines being passed off as a late 2012 purchase etc whenever that happens - as the resale of the 2011 machine is being painfully kept artificially high without an update.

Performance is probably not going to be vastly improved either, seems like a lot of hassle to change machine - smart money would be get out now with the best price for your 2010 machine and hang out for a 2012 update? but then be without a machine for an indefinite time.
