time to update your signature then ;) Building that machine for fun you must have a lot of money lol. If nothing in October I will probably build something similar to you. I was hoping to have an AIO for once but the only AIO i will accept is the iMac. FFFF Apple!

I did not mean build as in physically building it :D I mean as BTO from web. But the price was including getting it built by shop and windows installed (without bloatwares)

What machine and from where?

Im from norway, so probably not a store you are familiar with.
specs: box: Corsair Obsidian 650D Midi Tower, ram: Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz 32GB, cpu: Intel® Core i7-3770K 3.5Ghz, 8MB, Boxed w/fan. motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD55, Socket-1155 ATX, ssd: 2x Crucial m4 SSD 2.5" 512GB SATA 6 Gb/s sata 3

so yeah pretty decent hardware for $1000 less the maxed out imac BTO

The next big date is 19th October !!!!

That's the day that I have decided that I am going to buy base model iMac 21. I am fed up waiting and waiting( only from August), this has taken over my existence. I check in the morning and anytime I get the chance thru the day.. I have looked at a heap of options like Mbp MBA Mac mini but end up near £2000 ($3200). So I have decided next Friday is the day I am buying, will get 8% discount for my son so it will cost me £919 ($1450). 14 day return no questions policy will take me into November past the windows 8 launch so on and so on. I am only general user so the current spec will be more than I need, should of bought it in august and saved all the heartache.

:apple:iphone4:apple:iPhone 4s:apple:apple tv2:apple:ipad2

iMac next week.

I'm gonna stay faithful. I don't know when it's coming but I'm sure it will come, and I'm starting to think apple have something pretty awesome in the pipeline, Heres my thinking. Desktops are not dead until people stop buying them, most people that have a pc and iToys have no need for the portability of a laptop. If desktops are to survive, their next evolution will be the AIO design as we see currently with many (almost competitors) now coming to market. Apple would be stupid to pull out now and I think they know it, their no longer on their own with a truly unique design so have got to up their game. Could the pro and iMac combine next year as a powerful but slightly bigger AIO?

I actually think this will happen - the melding of Pro and iMac into one mega-pro model and I also think this is what Cook was talking about in his infamous email.

BUT that means there HAS to be a refresh before. Like soon. Before people start jumping ship.

I think there's a chance for the iMacs to be released. Apple has relased iMacs late October so until October is finished there's still a chance in my opinion

I agree. I'm not making moves until October is over. Everyone here has said all along that October is the latest possible date and NO ONE thinks its going to be released afterwards... We've waited this long, we can stick it out everyone!

The problem right now is not the release date as such. The problem is a lack of any info on the imac period. A couple words from Apple could remedy this immediately, as was done for the mac Pro a few months back. It wouldn't cost Apple anything to chime in with "soon" or something... In fact people are sitting in here with money to spend. Many would wait if they knew something more than crickets.

Yep. By Thursday 11/1, one way or the other, we'll know. Realistically if there is no update by then we have to move forward assuming there won't be one until summer 2013 at the soonest and possibly never.

Just ask Jim dalrymple about the whole iMacs issue I asked him if I should just move on to something else, he reply "moving on to something else would be a mistake" doesn't mean much but there's some hope

Every day I click on my macrumors.com bookmark regularly, in the hope of some front-page rumors on the '2012 iMac'. When I realize that there are no front-page news I go to this thread to see the latest speculations. I desperately need a new iMac... the waiting is starting to get on my nerves, but no way I am buying a 500+ days old iMac for the same price it had when it was launched.

I hear you muff. My 2006 MBP is limping along, trying to run pro apps while my 11 y/o son eyes it eagerly, asking me if there have been any new iMac rumors. Darn vulture. COME ON Apple, get the show on the road before I'm forced to get a 2011 model.

question:

Don't know if this is a stupid question...

But does anyone know what Apple employees actually use for workstations at the Apple campus @ Infinite Loop? Like... what is Jon Ive designing the next rMBP unibody on? Surely he can't be using the current Mac Pro or iMac. So... what? He's got a fully loaded rMBP hooked up to two Thunderbolt Displays or something? Am I really supposed to believe that? That's why I don't buy these people stridently asserting that Apple is killing their desktops. WTF would apple's own industrial design or R&D departments use for themselves? You can't design an iPad on an iPad for Christsake!

Something like this, without so many books?

Hah. Always loved that photo. But am I really supposed to believe Jon Ive is either working on a MBP, or working on a machine with sandy bridge and no USB3?

Oh. And another reason people saying "iMac EOL!" need to ****. Two words: Educational. Institutions. Schools ain't gonna have computer labs filled with MBPs. Too fragile, too easy to steal. Just. No. Apple is not going to just drop that whole segment of their business.

Who said anything about them dropping that segment of their business? The general consensus is that Apple will EOL their three distinct desktops and replace them "later in 2013" with one desktop. The company can then direct its fuller attention on portable computing, following the profit.

The iMac is done. The Pro and Mini too, but it took a while for us to recognize it. Apple has clearly telegraphed where they are going. All that remains is the bookkeeping, as it were.

From the pulpit of my ignorance, I'd say that this is actually an excellent point.

If you look at the text columns of the screen on the left, you will notice they don't match the angle of the display. The picture is fake.

Al Gore (among many famous names) is an actor. I don't know what cult owns him, or what his intentions are environmentally. Only that he often debases his cause so that's probably his goal.

John Edwards, Ron Paul, David Duke are all in the same category... Big-talking frauds who set out to corrupt the political system.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this general consensus. Could you please post links or say from where you gather this to be general consensus? From what I can see on the Internet nobody knows anything and everybody expects a refresh?

Yeah, sounds very reasonable to me as well

This is a total lack of understanding of economics or how businesses run. Companies don't just drop all of their products except for the one with the highest profit margins. Guess what products have the highest profit margins in retail? Accessories. But just because a company can get away with marking up belts and scarves more than they can on pants and shirts, doesn't mean they are going to stop selling pants and shirts. If there is a net positive profit to be made and enough demand, the product will be made-- regardless of its profit margins compared to other products.

If profits = fruit, then certainly iDevices are the lowest hanging. But guess what, if you sell fruit, you pick the whole tree from top to bottom. To not do so would be an irresponsible way to run a business and irresponsible to your shareholders.

You people are acting like Apple is a start-up. Yeah, when you're a start-up you specialize and focus on one product you make better than anyone else. But guess what? When you're a monster worth as much as Exxon, your job is to expand into more markets. Not dump them.

When the next iMac comes out you are just going to look silly.
