I've only glanced at the past few pages, but when can we expect to see this debut? October?

My 2007 15'' MBP is currently on its last leg and is dying a slow, painful death. I'm in college and need to get a new one asap! I have a chromebook as a backup but it's not hearty enough.

I wouldn't expect new MBPs until March of next year.

Get an Air to hold you over for the time being, you should have no problem selling it for 70-80% of what you bought it in 6 months time.

Can anybody else confirm this? I thought it was October. It would suck if it was March.

I already have a netbook.

October might be the speed bump, but not a redesign. The redesign will have to wait for Ivy Bridge, and Ivy Bridge won't be out until Q1 2012. MBP updates early in the year either happen in February or April, so I averaged them out and said March.

Dammit Apple!!!

Spec bumping the pro late 2011 and then completely redesigning in early to mid 2012 is stupid. Just hold off on all the goodies till 2012 and then give us some real magic then.

^This.

Just read the apple insider article and not sure if it's legit or not but if it is it sounds awfully stupid.

I'll wait for the complete redesign rather than a simple spec bump.

What's so stupid? Why is Apple going to launch a total new redesign and make it run SLOWER then the current MB Pro? Because that is probably what it would have to do.
When are you guy's ever going to understand? To make a thinner computer, you MUST and I mean MUST control the heat it makes. And the current CPU's can't do this. This is why everyone expects Apple to wait for Ivy Bridge as they run at the same or faster speeds but use less power to do so, so Apple can have it's thinner design without going backwards in performance terms.

As to what they do with the GPU, now that's the interesting bit.

radeon hd7000 will come out soon, based on 28nm process so their should be some power efficiency gains, cant wait :)

ive read somewhere numbers are up to 50 percent faster/more power efficient

13"
1440x900
Ivy Bridge CPU
Intel HD Graphics
AMD Radeon 7XXXM/NVIDIA 6XXM (space for a discrete GPU with removal of optical drive)
128-256GB SSD
New design
No optical drive

15"
1680x1050
Ivy Bridge CPU
Intel HD Graphics
AMD Radeon 7XXXM/NVIDIA 6XXM
256-512GB SSD
New design
No optical drive

17"
1920x1200
Ivy Bridge CPU
Intel HD Graphics
AMD Radeon 7XXXM/NVIDIA 6XXM
256-512GB SSD
New design
No optical drive

Can I order a 15" right now please?

If Apple does come out with a spec bump for the MBP's in the next month or so, do you think the refresh will only involve a faster CPU, or would it at all be likely that they will increase the resolution in the 13" to 1440x900, or even nicer yet, 1680x1050?

how bout, for the 13", 1680x1050, 15" 1920x1200, 17" 2560x1600?

Then the 15/17 will basically be the iMacs to go! And while they're at it, bump the iMac back to 1920x1200 and 2560x1600. 16:10 rules!

Optical drive could stay on the 17, or in lieu of the drive, have a 2nd SSD to run in RAID 0.
Are you guys aware of how small everything would be on the screen? Especially if there was a 17" MBP with a 2560x1600 resolution. It wouldn't be usable. The current resolutions are at the threshold for typical viewing which is around 130 PPI. Don't expect anything higher than what I put before.

The only major changes we will likely see regarding resolution will be if they change to 16:9 which would lead to a 14" with a 1600x900 resolution and a 16" with a 1920x1080 resolution. But I doubt that's going to happen because if it were to happen then the 13" MacBook Air wouldn't still be 16:10.

Come on Apple! Lets release this baby!

I really hope they take out the optical drive and insert an SSD, that's all I really want.

I might as well wait for Ivy Bridge 2012 as I'd hate to spend all that money to find Ivy Bridge will come out soon

My guess...

13'' LED with GPU and at least 1440x900 like MBA
Bluetooth 4.0 like MBA
No OD (I already replaced mine with a SSD you can always use an external one if you need).
8 Gb RAM at basic configuration
Thinner
Lighter
More battery time
SSD 256 Gb (SO) + HD 1 Tb (Data)
Better speakers

The MBP line should not be getting thinner. The reason that computers have been getting thinner is that they were rediculously large and bulky. We have reached the perfect balance between size and performance in the MBP line right now.

My wish list:
15" Hi resolution antiglare
Ivy Bridge processor
Faster dedicated graphics
8 GB RAM standard
750 GB 7200 RPM HD
Option of 128 GB SSD, 256 GB SSD, or optical drive
USB 3.0 (Ivy Bridge includes 3.0)
Slightly larger battery combined with Ivy Bridge processor to give >8 hour
Similar case design, with fixed edges below trackpad

The other option that apple has is enlarging the screen sizes without increasing the exterior dimensions. I looked at a friends 2010 15" and I think that they could fit a 16" screen in it. So the 13", 15", and the 17" pros would end up being 14", 16", and 18". It would allow more screen real-estate in the same size computer. I would buy a 16" in a heartbeat with the specs from the above post.

I'm using a macbook purchased in Sept 2006. It still works fine but I'm looking to upgrade to a 15" pro. Can't decide if I should wait til the ivy bridge upgrade (March?) or just buy one now? I assume the march upgrade would be a new form factor.

Supposedly, the next update is a complete redesign, rather than just a internal refresh like the past two updates.

Sorry if I come off as a jerk but I think we've established that through the previous 11 pages of speculation and the title of the thread being 'Redesign'. ;)

In for a wait

So... it looks like we are waiting till march for ivy bridge. Also aren't Radeon 7000 series and nvidia kepler GPU's coming out roughly the same time? Looks like the next refresh is gunna be big. :D
