Next refresh is in nov 2011 ( next few weeks)

That's 9 months from the last refresh.

Apple updates their MBP line every 8-10 months sometimes longer.

So that that do want a new design 2012 update will have to wait around another 10 months aug 2012- but apple always do back to school offer of the laptops from may - sept.

I'm not sure whether I should buy the MBP next month or wait for Ivy Bridge =/

I'm not a prophet, but I bet the redesign, and Ivy Bridge, won't come before 4-5 months. So, if you want a MBP now, I'd totally go for it. They are great machines, even if new ones will come out shortly.

no, that wont happen. cpu bump now (november), even apple wouldnt put in 0.2 ghz faster processors and call it a refresh...

and then they'll redesign when ivy bridge comes out...

why is it so hard to use your brain and think a little bit

apple refreshes their mac line when new processors become available, and thats up to intel, maybe this time it will be 14 months between REFRESHES (not speed bumps, theres a difference) because ivy bridge wont come out at ces like sandy bridge last year. i mean, look at how long mac pro users are waiting because of intel...

New slight refresh!!

Macbook pro's have been slightly upgraded today!! the lower end 15 inch models now have the AMD Radeon 6750M and the higher end have the AMD Radeon HD 6770M. Also i think that the processor speeds were also bumped a little, as well as a 750 GB hard drive on the higher 15 inch and 17 inch models.

Im not sure how much of a difference the Radeon 6770 makes for graphical power... if anyone knows please let em know your idea's of whether to buy mac book pro now or yet, hold out for ivy bridge models.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Yep! NOW what can we expect for 2012 redesign :D?

no, march/april/may 2012

jesus, this was a spec bump, computers are updated when new hardware becomes available (read intel), macs are not iphones, the product cycle depends on intel unveiling their processors lineup...

Oh good, I will probably be buying MBA or MBP and can wait until early 2012, so this might work out for me. I want a 13" model, with specs similar to what they now offer in the 15" model. Quad core and decent graphics card. Of course I will be going SSD, which really jacks up the price.

im also waiting for ivy bridge model. intel roadmap says ivy bridge comes out around april, but i dont know how long will it take apple to implement it, maybe the new macbook pros come out in may (that would be 15-16 months since last refresh, 50 percent higher than the usual 10 months cycle), on the other hand apple may get first samples of ivy bridge so they release macbooks in march/april. either way, cant wait! i think the second option is more probable...

I really doubt Apple will implement Ivy Bridge right after it comes out. I'd tend to think we should wait another 2-3 months after that happens.

i agree with you
last update - sandy bridge january 9, macbook pro february 24
update before that - january 7, 2010, macbook pro april 13

but one can only hope...

Glad to be hearing about the new MacBook in March. I hope this is true because I'm not sure my little PC is going to last much longer :C

Want to get the 13" with the highest specs (except HDD) because the other are way too expensive.

This is good research. *if* Ivy Bridge is on time, I'd say that we have at least a one month gap to the MBP product. Since Ivy Bridge has only rumors for a release date, we could be waiting quite a while.
A realistic time frame for Ivy Bridge would be April-May, so it seems reasonable that the follow up to this spec bump would be June or July.

Excuse me for sounding noobish, I'm not a Mac person, but what is Ivy Bridge?

Ivy Bridge is a new architecture that is coming out next year. should have usb 3 built-on-board and uses less power consumption than sandy bridge (what is what all the 2011 macs run aside the mac pro) should also have a bump in graphics compared to the intel 3000hd. I'm waiting for the new refresh 13" just hope it comes out around june julyish... heard there was a delay for ivy bridge though?

I noticed that the Apple Store is not featuring MBP as a new product. This makes me think that they know that this update is just a minor update and not a new product. Makes me happy to see that cos I can live for another 6 months with my early 2008 MBP.

I just refuse to buy a computer that will be redesigned in a couple months again.

Well, I'll tell you know, OEM/Manufacturers already have Ivy Bridge, but Intel won't allow them to release the products.

I've got a 2007 MacBook (I know, I know...) and have been waiting for a MBP refresh forever! But I would love to have the redesigned version. Do you guys think it's worth it to wait until Ivy Bridge? My MacBook is pretty much on its last life.. which sucks when my life basically runs on Adobe CS5. (And if I get a new MBP I probably won't buy another computer for another 2-3 years.)

I have an early 2006 Macbook (first one). Yours is even newer so if I were you I'd suck it up for another 6-8 months or so

Apple got Sandy Bridge later because it saw the errors the processors had with the Cougar Point, their computers running it had no processor problems than compared to the PC's running it a month or two earlier, which Intel paid dearly to fix
