So... it looks like we are waiting till march for ivy bridge. Also aren't Radeon 7000 series and nvidia kepler GPU's coming out roughly the same time? Looks like the next refresh is gunna be big.![]()
I just want a quad core 13 inch with SOME GPU

that optical drive has to go, there's no point for it to stay, we have mac app store and icloud already. get rid off the optical drive and keep the 13" under 1.8kg (4lb) would be perfect.

give it a freakin rest, the refresh JUST happened this morning. Do we really need to start in on what is gonna happen for the next upgrade?![]()
THERE WAS A REFRESH THIS MORNING?
I've been waiting for this. Can anyone shed information? i can't find any on the interwebs![]()
I'd be happy for the optical drive to be dropped though, on the 15" model at least, would be very disappointed if you couldn't install both an SSD and an HDD in the case at the same time.
There are still rumors of a late-2011 mini-refresh with the new intel processors. But the difference will be pretty small compared to the current ones. Unless they decide to also drop the optical drive early, in which case they have a little more room to do some internal changes.
I'm waiting for the 2012 ivy bridge macbook pros myself. Unless you really can't wait another 6 months, so should you.
I'm like you, waiting for the MBP's with Ivy Bridge. But as time goes on and rumors say that a small refresh will happen soon with no Ivy, then Ivy MBP will only come in +1 year... because such upgrade as a redesign + Ivy Bridge will not come 6 months after the last refresh, at least it does not makes sense...
i don't think thats the case here. the rumors you were reading are not about a refresh, just mere bto options, so you'll be able to purchase these new sandy bridge processors (2.4 and 2.5) as bto options, the same thing happened last year and thats not a refresh, just added bto options...
i also wait for the redesigned mbp without superdrive, and i think that redesign will happen in march/april of 2012 when ivy bridge becomes available, im 90 percent sure about it, but apple can always surprise us...
so the bottom line, if they add bto options in november the redesign will be in march/april timeframe, but theres another possibility, they could release a redesign with sandy bridge (2.4 and 2.5) in the following months but thats highly unlikely, they will most definitely wait for ivy bridge and then we'll get our keynote
by redesign i mean the absence of superdrive, different design (probably macbook air style), instant on, ssd standard (those ssd blades), maybe an additional hdd, usb 3.0, radeon hd7000, and maybe ips (better screens) and longer battery life...
at the last mac keynote they sad that the macbook air is the future of notebooks, so im basing my expectations on that, and a couple of rumors about a 15 and 17 inch air-like macbook pro
Oh sorry, confused the exact meaning of refreshing. So when saying refresh people mean only a bump upgrade?
Also, what if Apple just launched a redesigned MPB line with SB in November in a way to attract a lot of new customers and then, in a way to avoid sales loss, they would launch, next year, the already redesign MBP with IB!
That could be a clever market strategy, since the majority of Apple customers (and you know its true) are mainly attracted to the design of Apple products than rather to the internal specs.
Obvious troll is obvious.Caught a glimpse of a pre production prototype right before the image & partial specs were taken down. It looks like Apple is finally getting close to their goal of truly thin & light 15" model.
It was listed at just 0.022mm thin & weighing just 0.42lb.
The only drawback is it's so flimsy it can't be touched without bending & destroying it.
But Wow... How Impressive.![]()

The 7750M might be this: 750MHz/12SIMDs/768ALUs/48TMUs/16ROPs/128bit GDDR5 4.0Gbps 64GB/s/1GB/50W TDP
768ALUs vs 480. Wow. Faster clocks too (will probably be brought down to 600). That should put it close to a desktop 5770.
Catalyst 11.11 driver leak references the new Mobility parts:

and this post form last December looks pretty accurate now:
http://www.techpowerup.com/137413/AMD-Mobility-Radeon-HD-7000-Series-Reality-by-Q4-2011.html
'Going down, there's "Chelsea" itself, with its 128-bit GDDR5 memory interface, 1-2 GB memory, 20-30W TDP, performance 30% higher than "Whistler", production starting in Q4-2011'
I kind of wouldn't be surprised to see them drop the 13" entirely. I say this as a person that loves the 13" MBP and isn't really interested in the Air.
I feel like that was a transitional period, but who knows.
The original 13" Air was hampered by the technological possibilities when it was first introduced. You couldn't get nearly the same power out of the mobile chips at the time, nor the SSDs that were noticably faster than HDDs.
They drop the Macbook, it is replaced by an 11" Air.
13" Air comes into it's own where it rivals/beats the 13" MBP at most things, both benchmark wise and general user experience. This kind of makes the MBP irrelevant to the vast majority of people buying the 13" Macs who probably just browse the internet and edit a few college photos.
