My perfect laptop:
15" screen,
Highest resolution possible
fastest available quad core w/ HT *such as the rumored 2.7ghz 3rd gen i7.
16GB RAM
180GB SSD
Backlit keyboard
Gigabit Ethernet,
3-4 USB 3.0 and esata (or TB->esata I guess?)
Weighs 5lb's and last 6-9 hours on battery

180 gb only wtf?

There's a lot of portable, USB-powered optical drives out right now for fairly cheap. It's not a huge setback if an optical drive is needed. I've always tried using external ODDs anyway as I didn't want to wear out the internal one.

OCD much?

If they are going all SSD on the MBP, they should be 512GB as standard, 1TB as a pay for option.

These are Pro machines, so small storage won't cut it.

With this MBP redesign I can also see an overall price increase, but can see the MacBook airs prices staying the same or even being lowered.

That would be soooo expensive... the SSD alone would be 1/4 of the cost. Unless Apple made their own way cheaper SSD, I can't see that happening.

I do agree that small storage won't cut it though. They're more than likely going to offer the same 500GB HDD.

Standard 512GB SSD would be great but it won't happen this year!

Price Dropdown

The largest Apple retailer in Portugal (which is a French multinational) as just launched today a 300USD-500USD price drop on the 13' MBP.

I also noticed that the spanish shops of the same retailer do not have any stock available (just on a couple of models).

This is not a typical campaign and can indicate something is about to happen.

Hm. That is most curious.

Thank you for sharing.

I don't know about you guys, but I am hoping for dual HDDs... SSD to boot from, and an optional SATA HDD for space. Also the ditching of the optical CD drive would be my dream! That would make this a true PRO machine, along with USB3, Retina Display, and the thinness of the MBA!!!

Super pumped for this refresh!!!! :D

I feel I may have sold my MacBook to soon as it looks like there will be no redesign with rumors quieting down after a big hype all we see now is iPhone and ipod touch rumors, but we see no parts to macbook pros. The clocks thicking down I hope apple proves me wrong.

FNAC tends to lower dramatically the prices of MBPs before a new release. It's quite a typical sign that a release is going to happen. However, that is no news at all. Bloomberg already stated a WWDC release.

Just because there were MBP rumors last week an iPhone rumors this week doesn't meant that one is more likely than the others. The iPhone and iPod touch are most likely still scheduled for October, just like they were last year.

I haven't analyzed FNAC pricing behaviour when there were changes on MBPs on the past, however they did this same campaign 2 months ago with severe drops on MBP and MBA.

We cannot forget that Portugal is deeply sunk on a crisis which is afecting all Europe and therefore price drops will tend to be "business as usual".

The only fact that leads me to think that something is going to happen is the lack of stock on Spain plus the fact that Bloomberg wouldn't risk its reputation on a rumor without a solid and credible source behind.

Don't worry, those MBP leaks were classic "from Apple" leaks: controlled info to Bloomberg and the WSJ. You can pretty much bank on a redesigned MBP at WWDC. If we don't see leaked parts, that just means the rumors sites haven't found them yet.

Agree and we cannot forget that the customer base of MBP+MBA and the iPhone are completelly different and therefore we will always see more leaks on the iPhone and Ipad.

I did the same and completely agree with you!

Or the rumours have died down because the only 'rumour' was a controlled leak.

Back in late 2011 the crysis existed already, and such discounts already happened. Fear not: a new MBP should come by WWDC. I'm betting the 12th of June, because it's simulataneously a Tuesday *and* my birthday :D

Controlled leaks are pretty common in modern marketing. A few companies I've worked for have used them to great success!

Wishfull thinking :D:D

I hope you are right and have a good birthday gift because although it is not my birthday I will for sure buy myself a present :D

Two HDDs or at least the empty bay for an additional drive would be nice. For the 15" form factor, they would need to ditch the optical drive for that extra space though. Personally I hope the SSD remains an optional upgrade. For cost reasons I wouldn't expect it to be standard, especially if the display is going to be 'retina'. It would be cheaper to buy an SSD off of Newegg anyways. I still need all the space so I'm going to be an HDD guy for a while until the costs come down in a few years. Apparently rumor has it that they are still including an optical drive too, so I won't get my hopes up regarding an additional drive bay (which I agree, SSD to boot and HDD for storage!)

If they do include an optical drive, I hope they don't continue dragging their feet from adopting blu-ray. The drive would be rather useless for me then. Another minus for optical drive besides seldom use is dust. I have a non-Apple 17" laptop with a blu-ray writer that writes bad discs because of the dust. I clean it, but since I hardly use it, it just keeps accumulating. It's noticeable on DVDs cause I wipe the little spot away and can see a teeny tiny place where it didn't burn anything. Strange that it continued to burn afterwards. External blu-ray drives are cheap and can be stored away from dust. Another DVD burning optical drive without blu capability would be disappointing. I would disable it in the OS!

My current laptop has an nvidia 460m. It was a gaming laptop a little over a year ago and I've been reading over on notebookreview forums that the 650m (both DDR3 and DDR5 versions) are better than it and equivalent to it's replaced 560m which was considered standard for gaming laptops until just a few months ago. That's good news for gamers. The most demanding games out right now on PC are BF3, Witcher 2, Dirt 3/Showdown, and Crysis 2. My 460m can play all of them in 1080p as long as I don't go with ultra (depending on the game 10-20fps) with the exception of Witcher 2 which I have to play in 720p but I can max it out minus uber sampling and it's 30+fps. Anything else can run pretty much maxed out. Crysis and Metro 2033 maxed out still require an expensive gaming rig (and I mean literally maxed out, they look amazing in high, Metro 2033 has so many settings).

So tl;dr, the nvidia card is going to be great. I don't know how they were able to get that kind of performance in a mid-range card so fast, but if that's what the Macbook Pro is getting it's great for gamers. Elitest gamers will turn up their nose, but even they have to admit that many PC games are console sloppy seconds and this card runs circles around the consoles. Remember, the nvidia fiasco was not limited to Apple and they really haven't had any problems like that since. The 650m is a Kepler card with maximum res of 3840 x 2160 so I don't think we'll be seeing a display any larger. The games won't run too good at that res, but it's exactly 2x 1080p so there wouldn't be any scaling distortion (assuming that's the res, near 4k... excellent for 3D too without those headache-inducing shutter glasses)
