Hey guys just another little pattern I noticed with apple wwdc keynotes. Since 2006 apple has had Mac update focused wwdc presentation in 3 year increments. 2006 Mac pro 2009 MacBook pros so 2012 would make sense for another Mac focused keynote. Just thought I would share.

Also anyone notice the colors or the wwdc apple logo are identical to the eyeball logo colors that represents retina displays?!

Which GPU's do you guys think are most likely for the 15"/17"?

nVidia: I'm thinking the 650m, but hoping for a step up to 660m.
AMD: Probably the 7770m, but hoping for the 7850m.

These new 28nm chips should really allow them to increase the performance without increasing the heat/power consumption.

I really don't care if they choose nVidia or AMD, although the Optimus function in nVidia chips are really nice for laptops.

After the iPhone 4s...I would only assume that the new Macbook Pro's will be slightly slimmer, no optical drive, and a speed bump. To speculate otherwise, will cause many a huge disappointment!

Well, I think we can all expect something else at this point. For the following reasons:

1. Over 100 different ultrabooks are going to be released in 2012. We will have 15" ultrabooks, and ultrabooks which are also tablets. Lots of different products and great designs. Too much competition for Apple.

1.1. Asus is about to release its Zenbook Prime. This ultrabook will have a 1920x1080 IPS display which reviews are saying is much superior to the screen found in MacBook Airs. One of the versions of this ultrabook will have a dedicated video card.

1.2. Sony has managed to put a standard voltage Core i7 inside a 13" laptop (the Vaio Z) which is even lighter than a 11" MacBook Air.

2. Retina Displays are coming and Apple can't wait anymore. If Apple doesn't adopt them, somebody else certainly will.

2.1. These displays are already available from suppliers, and they cost only US$ 100 more. Just waiting for someone to put on a notebook. If Apple doesn't do it, somebody else will.

2.2. Windows 8 is going to be released in October (probably) and it will support high resolution displays. It's just a matter of time before we see the first high-resolution Windows laptops.

2.3. Mac OS X Lion already supports Retina Displays and OS X Mountain Lion will support them even better. That's obviously for a reason!

3. Not too many rumors, but there are solid leaks. Bloomberg published an article citing a reliable font.

I think we may expect something else from Apple this year. The competition is very aggressive, and Apple will fight to remain at the top.

I'm more of an nvidia fanboy. So I hope they pop in a 650. It would be fast. 660 would be better obviously but I doubt Apple will go that high.

I can't wait. I want the 15" MBP, max it out on display with anti-glare. Buy the RAM separately and max it out to 16GB. I'm not sure if I want a standard HDD or SSD yet tho.

I'll be using it for IT studies and program development. I will likely get into other things as well.

I think if Apple cuts the price by 200 dollars across the board for every model Apple will win most of the time. Either that or keep the prices the same but increase the specs to a point that makes it worth it.

Agreed. This will (assuming more than a spec bump) be my first Mac. No way am I going to go that way if it is not only not better than, but worse than much of the competition.

I don't know why people were so disappointed with the 4s and are drawing conclusions based on that. Apple already set a precedent with the 3s, so that was what I was expecting. Then the only thing that I see that could make the 4s inferior to the competition is a smaller screen size, but if this next Macbook is simply a minor spec bump, then it will be inferior in far more ways than one.

Good calls!

Hoping that there will be a 14" instead MBP quad core with intel 4000 graphics i've come to the conclusion that I just might look into a iMac instead

All this waiting for the new MBPs have got me confused and now i'm not sure what I want anymore.

So you're saying they can't?

Would they? .... It's more because they don't want to for many reasons.

From a design and aesthetics standpoint, I am sure Apple would be very interested in getting rid of the bezels. It's something I would expect from Apple by now. So I was wondering if there are technical or economical reasons holding them back.

The screens would have to be slightly bigger if they go edge to edge, and I guess it will be hard to order them from screen makers, since they aren't standard size anymore.

Thanks I'm trying to include some research in this thread instead of the constant opinions, bashing, praising, etc. hope it helps!

Take a look at this!! For anyone wondering if apple will go with nvidia graphics this might answer your question....or be a huge coincidence...

Check the photo near the bottom of first page. Taken from an nvidia presentation.

Posting up again for anyone who may have missed this tidbit

Holy crap guys just had another thought! What if each box in the apple logo for wwdc represented a pixel. There are approx 180 boxes on that logo or 180 pixels ( give or take) the current 15" high res Mac has about 120 ppi. I wonder if that is another hidden apple clue towards better displays...

I like the theory, but would apple think this in-depth when developing the logo?!

The colorful logo seems to point to nothing more than a Retina Display for Macs. Those squares are also shaped like the square on the Home button for the iPhone.

Does that mean an iPhone 5? Lets hope so. Both my 2009MBP and iPhone 4 need to be replaced ASAP.

I just hope apple dont reduce he storage capacities for the MBP, it would just ruin the image of the 'pro' machine.

What about the 17" Macbook Pro?

I'm a video editor and right now I have a 2011 i7 2.2ghz Macbook Pro. For me it was essential to replace the optical drive with a second hard drive and use the express card port for a third external hard drive or if I have to go completely mobile I could put an Express SSD Card in that slot and have my 3rd drive that way. It's a great set up, although even with the i7 Sandy Bridge it's still a bit slow for editing long projects. Anyways, if the rumors about them discontinuing the 17" model, or they get rid of the optical drive and the express card slot, then I'm sadly going to be leaving apple and going back to PC. :( I really hope they keep those features for professionals who rely on it. I think there's a possibility that the 17" model gets upgraded specs with pretty much the same body, and the 13 and 15" models get the slimmer redesign.

AMD: Probably the 7770m, but hoping for the 7850m.

I think you're setting your sights a little high.

The GT 650M and GTX 660M are purported to have TDPs of 45W and 50W (respectively), and AMD's 7850M has a TDP of 40W. Considering the current MBP is designed around a GPU with a ~30W TDP, and the new MBP is likely to have reduced cooling capacity (if, as is rumoured, it is thinner), it is highly unlikely Apple will use any of those GPUs.

Realistic options are the Nvidia GT 640M, or the AMD 7770M. There is the outside chance of a GT 650M, but don't get your hopes up.

You kids have it way too easy nowadays ;)
I was lucky to have a games console at 19, let alone a MBP.

Ha! When I was 19 we didn't know what a computer was and the closest thing we had to a games console was the pinball machine down the local café

Now, will you excuse me whilst I go and polish my zimmer frame :p

I rememeber buying my first mac an ibook G4 and a nice iPod 20gb, had to work amost everyday after school for 6 months stacking shelves to afford it. Was worth it though.

I was lucky enough to have my first ZX-Spectrum at 15, then an Atari 800XL (still on a black and white TV) at 17. When I was 19 and got into college my father bought me (with some finantial effort) my first PC ! It was an Intel 8088, with 20GB HDD , 3,5'' and 5 1/4'' floppy drive !

Got my first Apple Classic when I was 20 and got a student loan paying 35 USD per month (a fortune 20 years ago). Did lots of LISP programming on my Mac.

Sorry for the off topic :D

So, AppleInsider is still sticking to the old rumour that the new MBPs will look like the airs, which is directly against the 9to5 sources that point to a thinner MBP, but still with the familiar and distinct MBP look.

Let the battle of the rumours begin.

(I hope that apple insider are wrong. Luckily their sources can be traced back to Digitimes)
