We will see i guess depents if the 13" model will get a dedicated gpu or not. and what the hdd/ssd space will be

Exactly yeah, I'm presumming a nice bump in resolution will be there too. Couldn't get myself to buy a laptop with 1280x800 last year; especially when Adobe's Creative Suite minimum requirements were a resolution of at least 1280x900.

Arh can't be going too low on specification then, with me it makes no difference as I don't have a laptop anyway, so I'm very much looking forward to my first!

anyone know how strict they are about education discounts.. hell I can pick homeschool for my daughter and be done with it.. the educational discount is a few %pts better then my epp discount ( I dont work for apple, but am in the computer parts supply chain)

I was gonna go for the 15" when it was released, but now I'm tempted to just get the 13". Be a nice saving in cash, for what may be no majorly noticeable difference in performance for what I'll be doing, I guess I'll decide after seeing the new ones.
Similar as my case. I don't really care for a dedicated GPU but extra performance is always good.
I am very tempted to buy the current base 15", because once the new models hit the stores here in CZ, you'll can get one of the previous with a ridiculous discount - basically for price of the newer 13". I would love to have the extra real estate the 15" offers, but on the other hand, if 13" will get retina and lose some weight, I'll probably go for the updated 13".

So i guess they would announce it on the 12th or the 14th if they will do it on a Tuesday or Thursday.
I heard Tim Cook likes Wednesday announcements... :)

Im trying to find out whats the story too, I can get a pretty decent discount through the education store but im between courses now so im not technically a student. I plan just to get the girlfriend who is in college and thats registered with apple to buy it for me.

Just an idea: what if Apple introduced a 15" MacBook Pro with lower-than-base specs and significantly lower price? By that I mean for example innards from the 13" Pro like Dual-Core IvyBridge CPU, no dedicated GPU (or some lower-mid-class dedicated graphic solution), etc. It would make it perfectly suitable for mobile use by adding an hour or two to battery life and reducing the heat output compared to regular 15" Pro.
They could sell it for the price of the Hi-end configuration of 13" or even slightly cheaper. I am *sure* it would attract lot of of buyers' attention 'cause I don't believe I am the only one, who prefers screen size over performance. The current 13" already has enough power for my needs and all I want is bigger screen for less money.

I wouldn't like that.

Hmm, I'm thinking the moment they announce them, they'll release them so I'm saying the 11th!

Worth the wait either way though. :)

I really hope not.

yuck.

I've been told that they will get rid of the glass display, and that the bezel will be much thinner...

My Mother In Law is a librarian for the local HS.. so either way I think I'm good to go, but I'd rather just go the home school route so I dont have to ask anyone.

If you purchase from the store in person they will ask for an acceptance letter to a school, college ID, transcript, or something similar. However, if you purchase online, you can select a random school and it is based off of the honor system (99.9% chance they won't ask for verification).

sweet.. I will probably do it online.. my epp would have been online anyways. Student discount was -100 better then my epp.

So I caved and bought a MBP yesterday  my first Mac and so far I love it!!

I'm hoping the new one comes out the during WWDC so I can just exchange it for the new one :)

If not I have to either keep it or take a restocking fee.

And when you return the computer they'll have to sell it as refurbished and they lose money, simply because you couldn't wait a week to see what gets released?

Or they can donate them to help out kids in need of computers to help get a better education... but they don't, they take it, sell it as a refurb and STILL make money off the laptop.
