Am I the only one who feels a lineup similar to this would be very confusing to consumers?
It could be confusing yes, but you only have to read a thread back on any of the recent posts regarding mondays (potential) releases and it's a fairly even split market between those who want rid of and those who want to keep fundamental elements of the MBP.
As mentioned many times the 13" is supposedly Apples better selling MBP and the 13" Air has existed alongside it with a price difference that wouldn't bother most (considering adding the Matte Display to the MBP levels that cost) so theoretically the two machines co-exist and both clearly meet a demand at the moment.
I know I for one would love a higher resolution than what is currently offered on a 13" MBP but at the same time, I usually have to remove the HDD and put in something with more capacity as I like my Laptop to be as true to my Desktop regarding content and programs (and extensive music libraries) as possible, plugging in external drives isn't an issue to me but when I was at University, moving back and forth between lectures, student house and family home, work and long transport journeys, I forgot my external countless times so having everything I needed within the MBP was always an advantage.
This was with a 15" I should add, but I've been tempted to go down to the 13" as education discount can afford me both a 13" and a 21.5" imac for little more than what I'd pay without the discount on a base model 15"
Like any company with multiple products that specialise in a sole industry, differentiating between your products and their appeal is a marketing task, something which Apple are known for handling rather well.
Anyway, none of us know, and regardless of the outcome, Monday looks to be a day that we're all going to be nervous/excited/pleased or disappointed with.
Either way, should be fun on here in a few days time!
[Edit - Scrap that, I didn't realise there was no option to add a Matte display to a 13"]
