If I ordered a standard configuration of a new mac as soon as they are available after WWDC what will the shipping times be like? 1 week or the standard 24 hours we see on normal models at the moment?

No one knows when they'll be available. That means no one knows when they will ship. I assume once they're available online they will ship as per usual.

Maybe Apple is planning a staged release approach with the 15" MBP released first (Monday) and the 13" MBP later in the summer. I highly doubt that there will be two 13" and two 15" laptops at the same price because that would be too confusing. Besides, why would they keep the Pro machine at the same price as the non-pro (like the analyst suggested)? If any machine is to get retina, you would expect the Pro would get it - and that would result in a higher price tag than the non-pro version.

Hopefully we will have most of this cleared up on Monday.

This just popped up. Just so everone knows, this is the same analyst who says the 17" MBP is going away...

I really think this sounds way out of the line of probability.
Though Apple might revive the Macbook name (what is there a pro of, right now?), this is a very.. questionable way to do it.
Apple is know for its straight forward models and pricing. This seems just off. Too much of the same....

Am I the only one who feels a lineup similar to this would be very confusing to consumers?

It could be confusing yes, but you only have to read a thread back on any of the recent posts regarding mondays (potential) releases and it's a fairly even split market between those who want rid of and those who want to keep fundamental elements of the MBP.

As mentioned many times the 13" is supposedly Apples better selling MBP and the 13" Air has existed alongside it with a price difference that wouldn't bother most (considering adding the Matte Display to the MBP levels that cost) so theoretically the two machines co-exist and both clearly meet a demand at the moment.

I know I for one would love a higher resolution than what is currently offered on a 13" MBP but at the same time, I usually have to remove the HDD and put in something with more capacity as I like my Laptop to be as true to my Desktop regarding content and programs (and extensive music libraries) as possible, plugging in external drives isn't an issue to me but when I was at University, moving back and forth between lectures, student house and family home, work and long transport journeys, I forgot my external countless times so having everything I needed within the MBP was always an advantage.

This was with a 15" I should add, but I've been tempted to go down to the 13" as education discount can afford me both a 13" and a 21.5" imac for little more than what I'd pay without the discount on a base model 15"

Like any company with multiple products that specialise in a sole industry, differentiating between your products and their appeal is a marketing task, something which Apple are known for handling rather well.

Anyway, none of us know, and regardless of the outcome, Monday looks to be a day that we're all going to be nervous/excited/pleased or disappointed with.

Either way, should be fun on here in a few days time!

[Edit - Scrap that, I didn't realise there was no option to add a Matte display to a 13"]

There's another problem with those "blade" SSDs. Anand found out the connector on MBA's blade is slightly different than that used on the ASUS ZBP's blade. I'm not even sure which connector design is standard.

Yeah, OWC is pretty much the only option for third-party MBA SSD replacements, and also the only place to go for a 480GB blade.
Thank you for posting that! I've been looking closely at the Zenbook Prime and was going to get one if the release on Monday doesn't fit my needs.

mSATA seems to need more time in the oven and I don't want to get a machine with a proprietary mSATA drive. I honestly don't know what to do now but I will likely avoid any machine with mSATA. I really hope that the Monday event offers a reasonable laptop with SATA SSD.

While I'm still very skeptical about the introduction of another Macbook line, I have given it a little more thought and while I'm still not convinced this will happen, it seems more plausible than I initially thought.

Apple Insider's list does seem to make the 13" 'leaked' specs from earlier this week seem more valid than before since it had the same resolution and everything else the same including Ivy Bridge and USB 3.0 (which is native with Ivy Bridge anyways)

Perhaps they are easing the transition away from the optical drive and ethernet by offering what everyone was expecting to be the Redesigned 15" MBP with all of its goodies under the 15" Macbook name while still offering the 15" MBP with just an updated processor and graphics card for people who still need the optical drive, ethernet, and firewire ports. Then in a year or two, they will axe the MBP line when the 'legacy' features, which the 15" MB will have already dropped, are even less commonly used than they are today. I could be COMPLETELY wrong lol but it's just a thought...

Honestly, if they released a 15" laptop that is thinner than the MBP without the ODD or ethernet, with 2880x1800 (or possibly 3360x2100??:D), quad-core i7 CPU and decent discrete GPU, and non-soldered RAM, I don't really care what they call it, I'm buying it, as are a LOT of other people.

All I know is that this weekend is going to feel like the LONGEST WEEKEND ever haha

It's definitely interesting.

On one hand, I guess I could see it, as sort of a first stop on the road to consolidating their line to just macbooks, as we've been talking about for a while.

On the other hand, I don't really get how they're going to sell the pros without a bit more distinction. Presumably we're looking at an optical drive and a couple more ports. I mean, even the most hardcore OD zealots would probably be willing to haul an external drive around for a sleek new design and a retina display. Who is going to buy the 13" pro for the same price as the 13" new macbook?

I just don't see it, but time will tell I guess.

Maybe a distinction will be in the color (like gun metal or white) for the "new MacBook".

So rather than streamline their product line, Apple are going to add another line so now there will be 3 13" macs and two 15" macs plus the lack of clarity between both the pro, MacBook and the air?

I would be VERY surprised if that happened

Short Answer? People who can't wait until August!

Actually, considering up until a few hours ago a lot of people were adamant that there would be no 13" I wouldn't be surprised if these were controlled leaks...

"**** we went too far, people think there's no 13" and they're buying from the competitors"...
"I just told them we're going to have 3 different ones, they've got time to return them"

I'm not happy about the 13 inch rumour, I've been waiting for months just to be told there might be something better coming in August? :p

I think I'll end up getting a 13 inch Air and moving on with my life :p

If there is a 15" MacBook announced at WWDC like the analyst predicts. What do you guy think the odd are that they will also make people aware that there will be a 13" equivalent coming in August? I'd hate to be left in limbo.

If they leave me in limbo and the air has a 1080 display or retina. I'll just go and buy that. Not waiting up to two and half months for a potential retina 13" MacBook which may or may not be actually happening.

FFS. Sick of this. Whats all these rumorus now about MBP 13 INCH for August. Not waiting another 2 months if true. Highest selling laptop held back months? NO THANK YOU. Im having a mental break down looking at this rumors website now

I feel the exact same. Especially if Apple don't bother to tell us that a 13" will /definitely/ be launched.

Unfortunately, I don't think Apple will say something like "and in 2 months, we will introduce a new 13" Macbook just like the 15" Macbook" or something along those lines because they wouldn't want to slow their 13" MBA or MBP sales with people waiting because they know that the 13" MB is coming soon.

Yeah thought so, definitely not Apple.

For this reason I hope the rumour is 1) untrue 2) the analyst has it wrong over the 13" 3) the Air has retina displays

Sigh.
