not trying to be a horses ass or anything but if all you care about is internals why not just build a desktop? or get a pc laptop that's lower cost.

Because I want Mac OS X, the customer experience of Apple, a sexy laptop, Thunderbolt, and the general specs and qualities of a Macbook Pro? I'm saying I don't care if they redesign it, not that I don't care about getting a Macbook. I want to upgrade my current Macbook, why the hell would I get a Windows laptop?

I, for one, don't really care if it looks the same. All I care about are the internals. I would welcome a pleasant redesign, but it is far from crucial. That said, Apple may just have this locked down. There are less units to protect, which most likely makes it easier to prevent leaks.

This.

I'm looking to buy a new MBP that will serve as a desktop replacement. I want to have everything I need on the machine for video and photo editing. Therefore, it is critical that I have the option of putting both an SSD and big HDD in it. So for me, internals are the most important thing I'm anxious to hear about. The redesign idea is interesting, but if they somehow eliminate the option of having two drives I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

Simple answer: Apple engineering. The full experience.

Not to mention that this thread and forum addresses a laptop, not a desktop.

If it's not a redesign, then I'm going to get a sticker with my geekbench score to put on the case so everyone can know my MBP is better even if it doesn't look it! :p

Hah, thats whats good about Apple too, none of those horrible stickers that you always see on PC laptops (i know you can remove them, they are still tacky though) :p

btw im more convinced than ever that the new line will be

11 portability
13 portability
15 portable productivity (wanted or not, without ODD it will be flatter, not as flat as the Airs above*)
17 portable productivity (*)

the 13 Pro has no sense with a 13 Air getting better and better
who buys a 13 looks for portability and that's it
two 13 with not a huge difference would make little sense.

Iphone 4s
Ipad Mini
Ipad '3'

MBA 11 (soon in conflict with the Ipad, to be merged in a couple of years)
MBA 13 (the new 'small end)
MBP 15
MBP 17

applets for all pockets with no duplicates

The MBA 11" is selling like hot cakes so it won't be "merged". Where do you guys come up with this stuff? It seems like a place full of unicorns and make-believe where things like logic and facts have no place.

is selling like hot cakes because today and yesterday it had such market
who would have gone to build a 11 before it came up since it had no market ?

basically in my view (it's a view, a personal respectable view, if you accept the idea) the Ipad and tablets are the future

1 piece against the standard 2 pieced 'notebooks' 'laptopts' 'ultrabooks' etc

technology didnt allow ONE piece some years back, now it's possible

all directions point to POWER and REDUCTION of size+weight (whitin the limits of enjoyment x WhatIsTheDeviceFor)

The Ipads came after the galloping of the SmartPhones (flat, flatter, powerful, cheap)

the idea of the Airs is just the FIRST development (step) after the BULKY laptopts of the past, and some people still must realize that is possible to write stuff on a touch screen rather than a fisical keyboard (but of course you need a quality screen at a Mass cost)

Technology was at the side of AIRS before than the Ipad(tablets) now in some years (1-3?) for the trend i talked about above (power-size) who is looking for Portability has to go for a future Ipad, the AIR concept is son of the recent past (2 pages/sides tool)

who went for an AIR (11-13) did it because of :

1= ultra limited weight
2= concentrated power (the most possible)

Ipads are the logical consequence, the next buy of who thinks like that
but they do still lack 'power' the gap between Tablets and Airs
which in my opinion is gonna be erased sooner than later.

if that wasnt clear, or if you dislike it, amen

:)

I see your point now, but a tablet is a limited device that is pretty great for some things, like consuming data.

I certainly love mine, but unfortunately, we cannot spend all day cashing welfare cheques and consuming stuff; well, some people do, but it's not everybody's cup of tea. Therefore, people need to produce.

By produce I am not referring to the literal meaning of producing the content for people to view on their tablets, but producing for this machine of how our civilisation works from our houses to our food supply. You cannot do those things on a tablet, therefore, no matter what any one tells you, computers are not dead and there is no such thing as a "post-PC era" in the real world. There are many people that didn't actually need a computer in the first place and their needs are satiated with a tablet, but a tablet is not a replacement for everyone.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense, with respect to iPads I mean.

for the Airs i am not talking about today, btw :) a future scenario
for the present i have only cut out the 13 MBP (where the 13 MBA, updated is fair enough replacement, you want portability, you get it)

i think that most of the Air buyers are 'consumers' (well a writer is a producer?)
ofc there might be some 'producers out there who needs a 11 or 13, but i guess they are a little minority (i guess eh)

today a Tablet cannot be compared to an Air i do agree 101% , but since tech is made to compress power i can see a future of flats rather than a future of bulkies (even Tv went that way)

todays Air is amazing, tomorrow possibly too, later on a vintage device, newer than an old fat laptop (just like the Ipad 1 vs the Ipad 10)

cheers :)

amazing, that's exactly what I was thinking! I mean, to those almost what do even.

This post literally hurt my brain (yes, I actually tried to make sense of it, ha).

Yeah the tablets could be where it's at for me already, but what pisses me off though is that the ipad doesn't have the ports I want it to have, like thunderbolt, and usb3.0. Also being iOS, a lot of apps that I use on osx don't support iOS yet, or if ever. the iPad is powerful enough to do pretty much all of the things I want it to do. I still have to stick to my MBP, or MBA until then which is sort of a shame. That's why I haven't bought an iPad. I'm not going to have an iPhone, MBP, and an iPad. to much juggle juggle.

There are 2 reasons why I'm certain there won't be a redesign. First:

And second, we should be getting leaked parts by now. I can imagine all the kiddos here kickin' and screaming when out of the blue, we'll just see a refresh of the specs in Apple's site with the exact same pictures of the units. I'll prepare popcorn as I read MacRumors. :D

At this point, I kind of agree with you -- I don't expect any redesign. No real form factor change, as the current MBP form factor is pretty good, and definitely doesn't need to get thinner. (If it changes thickness at all, I'd expect a minute *increase* in thickness instead, much like they did with the iPad...)

Ivy Bridge, certainly, and maybe as soon as the end of this month, but I'm thinking more likely June or July. ODDs might become a build to order option, but they aren't going away entirely, anytime soon.

I'll never say I'm "certain" of anything when it comes to Apple product launches until they arrive, and I think anyone who does is either still young and naive or just a dolt. I will say that the atmosphere around here is very similar to the weeks leading up to last year's models and we all know how that turned out. I wouldn't mind an updated design, but whatever they decide to release, I hope they do it soon - I'm chomping at the bit here. These last couple of days have kind of taken the wind out of our sails, as it seems less and less likely we'll be looking at new Macbooks on the ivy bridge release day. Time will tell. Hopefully by the end of the month, we'll have some indication of what is to come.

Well as someone said on another thread; the quad core processors come out next Monday and Apple has an earning calls on the 24th (the next day). All speculation to whether a product could be announced.

We'll see in less than a week. :apple:

I'd love that to happen. :)

I'd just hate to buy a 17" MBP now and the 15" so called re-designed one comes out next week.
