Mock ups of extra wide trackpads have been going around for a few years now. these were before the 2008 refresh:

A track pack that size would be horrible for users that rest their palms on the bezel there. We'd be contantly affecting things that we don't want moved, resized, etc... :(

Rub your palm against your trackpad and see what happens. It doesn't work.

Also... I want an optical drive. After slashing out on a pricey machine, I'd feel hard done by if I then had to buy a separate drive to burn my nicely edited stuff onto DVDs

No invites for an event next week só far. It seems like that we're not going to have a redesign on April 24...

I having a feeling that most likely the slim design that everyone is gossiping about is going to be a new 15in macbook air.

Granted the new macbook pro will get some great updates, but the design will probably stay the same.

At this point, I'd be fine with that. Just release something, Apple! :D

Me too, I kinda hope it stays the same size with the super drive. Mainly, my favorite part about keeping this size is that there's plugins in the side, rather than 2 USB and a thunderbolt.

I love my Ethernet port! And realistically, would a thinner one weigh barely any less? Come on people! I don't know how much a MBP weighs but if it's 5 pounds.. That's super portable, IMHO.

Thicker, more rooms for juicy parts.

Wirelessly posted

I'm trying to imagine a media event, even for a redesigned MBP.

"here's our new MBP, here's what we changed, we're very excited about it, now go buy one, bye"

What have they been like in the past?

Why are you expecting an event? The apple strategy is to push iOS with their own chips - not intel

it would not surprise me to see an iOS based air and the old osx stuff slowly left to die off ..maybe ivy bridge refresh but no fanfare

Sure, just this refresh, ivy bridge, Kepler, no heat, retina!

Do you guys think the new MBP will be up on the Education store the minute it's released or will there go some time?

I thought the "education store" is just the normal store, but with a banner for your school and the lower prices?
It is, yeah. I'm just wondering if there will be a discount on the new MBP in the education store, the minute it's released.

I would find it pretty odd if they did not show a retina display Mac off to the press.

The fact that the iPhone 4S and the new iPad didnt get majorly updated designs make me wonder what Jony Ive has been up to... also a the fact that liquid metal announced a large shipment of their product a few weeks ago (everyone assumed it was for the new iPad) makes me wonder what it was for.

Its been a over a year since the iPad 2 came out and if my memory serves me correct that was the most recent redesigned apple product. thats a looong time to only redesign a phone. Id be surprised if there wasn't a redesign.

You can watch past keynotes on iTunes. Here's the 2008 one when the current MBPs were introduced.

Yes but that was then and this is now.

IOS is the future - not OSX.

It is a bigger source of revenue.
It uses Apple's own processors.
It has much higher product volume.
It has the main App content delivery store behind it (the Mac store is small fry in comparison).

I have this horrible feeling that we are done in seeing OSX based devices launched at big keynotes. Maybe the developers conference ... but not a special event.

( I am probably wrong ... but it does reflect the current direction of travel of the business ).

I meant for the Liquidmetal.

I'd love that to happen. :)

I'd just hate to buy a 17" MBP now and the 15" so called re-designed one comes out next week.

Wait it out, it will be worth it.....worth it everyday you use it for like 2-3 years!

.

It clearly does not have to be 1 or the other. It can be both.

Well, checking in as waiting for the next MBP.

Anyone know when we're going to get a time-frame on this guy?
