It'll be interesting to see if Apple updates the iMac before WWDC. Hmmmmm.

If they do then the whole update the Mac line at WWDC could still be a possibility.

If they don't then who knows ;o

I just seriously hope the 13" Pro not only sticks around but they give it the option for high-res Antiglare instead of forcing you to the 15/17. I love the 13's size for portability and lounging around, only thing I hate about it is no anti-glare.

This is kind of what I'm thinking. Perhaps there's something in Mountain Lion (one more thing) that we haven't seen yet that would cause them to hold the new models until ML is out.

Why would Apple wait until WWDC? Maybe, for Mountain Lion? But 10.8 won't be ready by the time of WWDC. So if the new MBPs, iMacs etc. are waiting for 10.8 - it won't be until well after WWDC. WWDC could offer a platform for a large release, but given Apples extreme press coverage for even the slightest movement, I don't see the need. Surely the MBPs must be getting updated before WWDC.

Oh man now even that has become a possibility in my mind! Looks like ill be on my iphone as my main computer for longer that i bargained for...at least im getting faster at typing on the on screen keyboard sigh

I hope so, I just can't think of a reason, besides ML, why they would wait until WWDC (if that's what they're doing) to release them.

Plus, I hope they release before WWDC because that's about the time they kick off the back to school promotion, and I'd be pissed if I were someone who bought the current models during the promotion and they upgraded them right after.

Apple might wait until WWDC because the dual-core Ivy Bridge processors are being released in early June. Let's look on the bright side: at most we'll be waiting 45 days (WWDC is June 11-15).

I could definitely see Apple waiting to unveil the new MBP, especially if it is "retina", because they would want to showcase Mountain Lion's HiDPI mode. I know it's already in Lion but isn't it hidden or something like that and not as accessible as in ML (I don't really know because I don't own a mac...yet)? I think it makes sense since it is a developer's conference so they are going to show off ML and what better way to show off its capabilities than to present it on a new Retina MBP

Is it possible that new MBPs are waiting for 10.7.4 to completely enable HiDPI mode in Lion for 'retina' displays in the new MBPs?

Maybe they will be retina, and able to choose a varying resolution from a list, that would make the screen not as sharp, but a bigger environment?

Random thought.

A new developer preview of 10.7.4 was released today.

"In addition, Apple has seeded a new build of 10.7.4 to developers. The build number is 11E53, and this is notable as this is only a single build shift from last week’s release of 10.7.4 build 11E52. A slow down in build number changes often means an imminent release of whatever OS X update is being tested. Augmenting this possibility is that Apple has added the 10.7.4 change log to the installer application for the beta."

From: http://9to5mac.com/2012/05/01/updat...preview-3-10-7-4-builds-seeded-to-developers/

We could be very close to a release if this is the case. Admittedly, HDD/SDD would have to be flashed with the new OS, so we could be 1-2 weeks away if 11E53 is the version they will release as 10.7.4.. Could we see a release, but a delay of shipping (say 1 week, like the iPad (3rd generation). This would allow developers time to update their graphics...

Probably been mentioned already, but another hold up could be they're waiting on supply to ramp up on IGZO displays. I imagine that would be a crucial component to keep battery in check if they want retina displays.

Last year they had sandy bridge a full week before anyone, and a year long exclusivity on thunderbolt (which doesn't count for much beyond high end professional use cases). This year I think they'll give us IGZO displays long before any other laptop manufacturer. I only believe this because we know the appropriate displays are on the production line, and we actually got the retina ipad this year.

Of course, i'd actually be happy in the event that I'm wrong, as I just upgraded... The retine display is the only thing that would cause meto go for it.

Say that mbp 15" becomes thinner, would it be lighter? Or would it be the similar weight as the 2011 (5.6 pounds).

Honestly I think it is obvious that if the new line of all macs has not been filed yet, it is for several reasons, that gathering all the information we know, could be summarized as:

1. The non-availability of new processors IB for some models of MBP and MBA.

2. The public presentation of Mountain Lion, but the new Macs do not think they will leave from the beginning with ML, I think Apple wants to make your presentation as it deserves in one of the new Macs at WWDC in order to show all possibilities and sell not one but two products that will make the impact greater.

3. The "redesign" of the whole line. I will focus on the range MBP, which are what interest me. We've been going with rumors of new laptops out every month of the year and still waiting. In my opinion, this are good news and should not to be treated in a simple HW update, because if so, with the new IB already on the market, at this point would have seen the launch of some products of the range a few weeks ago. Putting a little logic and gathering all the information we have, we can imagine that we do not expect a radical redesign, rather, I think that it will be a important and necessary redesign according to the continuity that is following Apple. This would be; keep the optical drive, increased battery, new processors, stylish design lines 'Air' softer and thinner body and weight, and last, the point that generate to me more doubts, Retina displays. It would make non-sense that with the imminent presentation of ML with support HDPi resolutions, the new MBP have 'standard' resolution and not take advantage of this OS functionality until many months or a year.

So in my opinion the shots can go through here, and the delay is due to this reasons, so do not despair in the meantime, but of course, is only my humble opinion. In a few months we will see who was less wrong.

Which, in my opinion, won't be in the next three years.

But thanks for agreeing with my point... :)

Lets hope they at least play nice and provide BTO memory upgrades at the same prices as crucial and new egg. No 8GB as standard and high BTO memory prices is like sticking two fingers up at the consumer.

LOL!

And I just saw a pink elephant flying past my window while smoking Magritte's pipe.

Is there a macbook pro refresh due?

Im thinking about buying a 13 inch one for my birthday next week, but Ill hold off on it if there's a refresh due in the next few months?

Any hints?

Few months? Probably. There's a whole bunch of threads here on that possibility. How soon is a guess. And everybody is guessing differently.

Yes, it is due if you consider the last major product revision/overhaul to the chipset or architecture was in February 2011. It has been over a year since major changes or upgrades have been made to the MacBook Pro.

The certainty of identifying a product revision or release date for the "newer" models is really a mystery, and we can only speculate. The update is due, but it could be a week, two weeks, or two months. I can guarantee you that Apple will update them before next Christmas, if you really want some certainty :D
