Sanchez is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 25, not to mention his awful contract. He'll be released before the bonus kicks in. Reports are the Raiders are interested in him.

I can't believe how hapless the front office of the Raiders are. They'll find a way to totally mismanage getting a quarterback to be sure.

In other news, Julius Peppers signs with the Packers. Shades of Regge White?
Maybe but how many years does Peppers have in him? Its a good move, don't get me wrong the Packers defense has been horrible for the past few years so its definitely an upgrade.

So. Are the Patriots going to be a team that sucks because they signed Brandon Browner ? After all everybody was saying how the Seahawks were cheaters. Are the Patriots that way now ?

The Packers could have hired the Bears' offense as defense and come out on top ;)

So yes, improving on their defense is not hard.

People have been calling the patriots cheaters for about 10 years now lol.

This. Your skin is awfully thin for a fan of the Super Bowl Champions. Sucks when people try and rain on your parade or diminish your team's accomplishments, no? ;)

So yeah, we don't feel sorry for you! But I am happy to have Browner. He'll bring that big physical presence we've sorely been missing. The Patriots secondary is now a strength and I couldn't be happier.

Also glad to have Edelman back. So far so good.

America's number 1 dog lover is going to the Jets.

As much as I don't like Vick, it's a good move for the Jets. They need a veteran to compete with and mentor Geno. While Sanchez fits that bill, his ridiculous contract and the poisoned atmosphere for him, he needed to go. Would have been nice if the Jets let him go 2 weeks ago so he had a better chance of signing somewhere. Reports say he'll end up in Cleveland or Buffalo.

I agree, its a good move for the Jets, there's too much baggage with Sanchez for him to really ever succeed or even fill in.

The issue for the Jets is, will Ryan feel the need to win now (to keep his job) and yank Smith for Vick? Michael Vick has shown that he can step in and be a winner, but as a long term starter, not so much. Then there's Geno Smith's growth, you don't want to stunt his ability to better grow into the QB position. In other words take a few bad games now, so he'll grow and learn and be a better QB later.

Has the issue for the Jets ever been the QB, or the team around him. No rookie QB will succeed if the train around him is always off a cliff.

The Jets completely screwed up how they handled Sanchez from Day 1. He had enough talent around him to get to 2 AFCCGs but Tannenbaum and his foolish contracts left no cap to replace talent and Ryan coddled Sanchez and refused to ever bench him when he deserved it. We won't even mention Ryan playing him in the 4th pre-season game and getting him injured for the year. To that point, Sanchez outplayed Geno.

I'd say both, they mishandled talent acquisition, and messed up how best to grow him as a QB. I think they put him as a starter before he was really ready.

If you recall, Pete Carroll said that he's not ready to be a starter (when he was the coach of USC). I think if they cultivated him as a starter for a season or two, things would have turned out differently. I think drafting QBs and letting learn the system for a couple of years has gone by the boards. Early successes of Sanchez and Cam Newton pretty much guaranteed that rookie QBs are expected to start

I seriously doubt that it is that simple. In 2012, Carroll was fully expecting Matt Flynn to be the starter, but in the pre-season, Wilson basically pantsed him, took the job and sent Flynn packing. Now, pick #75 Wilson has a 4-1 playoff record in two seasons, compared to Newton, who is 0-1 in three. So ...

Yes, Wilson did not really "win" any of his playoff games, those wins could all be down to the LoB. And Carolina made the playoffs on the strength of a pretty impressive defense, as well. But Cam eats a much bigger chunk out of the cap than Russell, by a factor of 7 (or about $19M diff). So what the Panthers spent on signal-calling talent is money they were not able to use to put their D over the top, to make it to the Meadowlands this year. Great QBs can cost you big wins, just ask Trent Dilfer or Joe Flacco.

No, any coach who starts a rookie QB because it is fashionable or because the fans are screaming for him is just a TFM who should not be coaching. They should be making the best decisions they can for their teams – which can mean starting a short guy because he is just that good.

I was actually talking about Sanchez not Wilson and when Sanchez decided to enter the draft Carroll (then the coach of USC) highly recommended that Sanchez not leave school he'd be better served with one more use of college. Plus if memory serves he did press the issue and told him he's not ready to be a starter.

As for Wilson, I really did not follow the the Seahawks at all this year so I have no idea what his abilities, qualifications were (prior to winning the SB).

Sanchez had great success at USC, but I think it was more to do with the system and the talent around him. The fast past action of the NFL and the lack of talent on the Jets exposed his weaknesses.

Looks like Philly released Jackson today, quite surprising. I think its related to the news story that is linking him to some gang members.

One thing is for sure, given the Hernandez situation here in Boston, the Patriots will avoid him.

The owner of the jets wanted him as did Michael Vick so I'd say he probably has a good chance of landing there.

Several pics of Jackson have surfaced of him flashing gang signs. Who the hell knows?

That didn't stop them from giving Hernandez a contract extension first.:p

Agreed, the Patriots have shown in the past that they don't care too much about the character of a player and look what happened :(

Jackson being released was more about the contract than it was anything off the field. They didn't want to pay him so call it gang related and it looks better in their eyes to the fans.

I agree to a point. Money was probably the major factor but I think they didn't want any distractions or headaches. At the end of the day they saw their cap hit, the potential for distractions and him not fitting in as well as they think he should have

If the league was going to cut every player who is a distraction there would not be many left.

These teams have to know that a lot of their players are involved in some undesirable things.

Because the Redskins are not screwed up enough, now there is another reason to enjoy the circus. DeSean Jackson has entered the tent.
