I don't know that this is necessarily a new thing. How long ago did St. John's change their name? They certainly didn't do it because they wanted a cute, new, cuddly horse mascot. People have also been complaining about Chief Wahoo on the Indians cap for a long time as well.

Frankly, I see it as a win win. The Redskins do the right thing and change their name (and honestly, it's offensive) and they get to sell shiny, brand new jerseys and hats and t-shirts will Redskins fans will buy in droves, just as all NFL fans do when a new logo, or jersey, is introduced.

Not to mention all the old inventory will sell like hot cakes also! A big win win win for the Redskins..... :D

That "distraction" doesn't fall on Daniel Snyder. that is a media created distraction...Snyder has nothing to do with that. It's silly to say he's creating that distraction.

While I don't really like Snyder, I think he has more money than sense, I agree with this.

I love how so many people all of a sudden think its an offensive name, just because the media has made such a big deal out of this whole thing. People who had no issue with the name for sooo many years, now all of a sudden woke up one day and decided that they find it offensive.

Agreed.

I just saw the Broncos schedule for this year. We open at home on Sunday Night Football against the Colts, and have a total of 5 prime time games: 3 SNF, 1 TNF, 1MNF.

So how does your teams schedule shake out?

The Jets must have pissed someone off at the schedule making office. wow from week 2-7 they pretty much face some of the best offenses in football and some of the best QB's in the game:

2- Rodgers
3 - Cutler (I admit he's hit or miss but when he's on he'll shred any defense)
4- Stafford
5 - Rivers
6 - Manning
7 - Brady

Then on week 6 they face the broncos only to be followed by a short week trip to foxboro to face the Patriots on a Thursday

That stretch of games could get really ugly for the jets then they have a reprieve Week 8 and then play in Arrowhead week 9. Things could be looking really ugly by week 10

Yeah, that looks like a pretty tough schedule for the Jets. My only real concerns for the Broncos are an early bye (week 4), 3 consecutive road games, and playing the NFC West (especially Seattle on the road).

Most of our divisional games are loaded on the back end of the schedule too. Going to be a tough year. Hopefully, we'll have a good draft with 12 picks.

40% is not a significant enough number to change it? I also wonder how those numbers are skewed by certain groups not being offended by it. I'm a diehard football fan, and I think it is incredibly offensive. I honestly don't see how people don't think it is...redskins, really? Especially given this country's atrocious past in regards to treatment of Native Americans?

It's a damned football team, not a sacred text. It should be changed.

That's not the point. The other poster said everyone in the country...it's far from everyone in the country thinking the name should be changed and most importantly, only one out of the 550+ Indian nations think it is offensive...again...far from "just about everyone."

Lookup the term redskin in the dictionary and tell us what it means. Then tell us if it is offensive.

2014-15 NFL season thread

Lol...did I say I didn't have a problem with it? I like how you try to put words in my posts...

Again, point was that Snyder is not near the "distraction" you think to say he is and your argument that "everyone" thinks that the name "Redskin" is offensive is equally far from the truth...it's a media driven distraction...not one Snyder has created.

So. Seattle signs Earl Thomas to a $40M contract making him the highest paid safety in the league.

Mr. Sherman. What to do.

It seems he thinks the way to show him respect is by making him the highest paying safety in the league.

Is Seattle going to have the two highest paying safety's in the league ?

I hope so because we lost a couple good defensive players to free agency.

If they spend so much on 2 defensive backs they would be shooting themselves in the foot for the future. Remember they have a few young players that have to get paid soon... Namely one Russell Wilson

Agreed. Wilson is going to want huge money when his contract ends.

Sherman isn't a safety. He's a cornerback. He deserves the dough too...

Thomas' contract is only $25+ guaranteed and then back loaded???it's not a "real $40M" so they'll probably restructure after two or three seasons...it's not a terrible deal. They can still load up on Sherman and be fine.

Satire at its best, this so accurately depicts how most Seahawks fans think:

SEATTLE – Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, still reveling in the afterglow of his team’s 43-8 victory over Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII, told reporters that his team is “pretty well set,” at every roster spot, and declared his intentions not to draft any new players in the upcoming NFL draft, claiming the process would be “totally irrelevant,” according to local sources.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll Super Bowl Champion

“Oh wow. The draft? Is that this week?” asked the smirking Carroll. “I totally forgot about that. No, I don’t think we’ll be picking anyone. Honestly, it’s a big headache. I’d have to fly to New York, sit in Radio City Music Hall for, like, three straight days, and all for what? Just to pick a bunch of college kids who cant play football as well as the guys we already have? No thanks, we’re good.”

When pressed by reporters, Carroll admitted, “Well, I guess we could use a new safety, or a cornerback maybe… Nah, I’m just messin’ with you. We finished as the top defense in the league last season. We just re-signed Earl Thomas and we’re about to lock up Richard Sherman to a new deal as well. What do we need new players there for? They’d probably just get in the way, asking dumb questions and slowing us down and whatnot.”

“And our offense? Well, our running game was outstanding. We have one of the league’s top young QBs. To be fair, we could use a game-breaking wide receiver. But to be even fairer, I should point out that we’ll have a healthy Percy Harvin this year, fully recovered from his hip surgery. So, yeah, we’re covered there too.”

When informed by reporters that NFL rules require the Seahawks to participate in the draft, Carroll reluctantly agreed to form some sort of selection strategy.

“Well, if we really have to pick someone, then maybe we’ll just draft, like, seven punters in a row. You know, for a goof. Or we could just trade all our picks for jelly doughnuts and bagels. Whatever. Don’t ask me. I’m gonna have some intern sitting at our draft table. Me, I’ll be hitting the links at Dyker Beach Golf Course over in Brooklyn for a 10am tee time.”

Can't wait for draft day! It is my favorite of all the drafts.

Some lucky young men are going to be a New England Patriots soon. ;)

The NFL hypes the draft way too much. At this point, I'm like just get it over with already.

Pushing it back was dumb, we don't need 300 more mock drafts. I also really hate that they break it up with the 1st round, 2nd and 3rd, and 4th - 7th all on different days. So stupid and annoying.

That said, I am still excited.

Absolutely. This extra month is torture. And the annoying thing about all the mock drafts is that every person doing them literally has a different one each day. So annoying, and most of them will all be wrong anyway.
