Honda looks to have caught up with Renault in the power department...just in time for Renault to upgrade next race.
Power was there when alonso did his 'wake up lap' as he called it. They just need to sort there consumption issues.

McLaren honestly needs to up their game from a chassis standpoint. I'm reasonably certain those cars are not there aerodynamically.

They seem pretty confident that for the next race they'll be right up there with Red Bull as the best chassis on the grid. Alonso has said the same thing after last race. Boullier also said the same thing after the 2017 engine regulations came up saying they will have the best chassis. A lot of talk though... let's see what happens in Spain in Monaco - the two tracks where chassis' are the most important.

Toro Rosso Ferrari could/should be a faster package than Red Bull Tag Heuer for about half the season. It's my understanding TR doesn't get any engine upgrades, so eventually the Tag Heuer will surpass the 2015 Ferrari.

There's a lot of "spin" to announcements like this. I think the overall objective was to re-sign Verstappen before his contract came up. The Red Bull seat was a part of the negotiation (and Red Bull has been pretty ruthless dealing with their drivers when they get to F1.) The timing/blaming Kyvat makes it easy to manage press whilst kicking a driver out of his car. I've only seen Button comment

All the whinging aside, Kyvat's race in China was solid race craft. (Sochi was an error.) I have a lot of respect for Vettel and get the Ferrari thing, but he was outraced/outmanoeuvered to the corner. That type of a move was a Senna trademark. I'll put my car in position to pass, and you make the decision to cause a crash (just ask Martin Brundle!) Schumacher was keen for doing this, too.

Both Dany and Max are exciting drivers. I hope both continue to achieve their promise.

The Schumacher/Senna moves were fantastic in their era's but rules have changed and you can't really do that now. China was a tough one because I think Kvyat/Vettel/Kimi all had the bad luck of being squeezed at the same time.. but the next week Kvyat absolutely screws up and now it makes China look even worse. I feel sorry for him, it's not entirely his fault but F1 is ruthless and it's hard to argue Max doesn't deserve a shot.

I think this is the wrong decision. Does Max deserve a faster package? Yes I'd say he does, but to demote a driver after a handful of races (one of which he got a podium!) is demoralising. Guarantee he'll be dropped by Toro Roso at the end of the season never to be seen in F1 again.
The'll certinly not promote him again.
Shame. I think he showed promise. Remember all the crashes RG caused when he started? Look at him now. Doing well in a slower car.
What if he'd been dropped back then?

I agree it's odd indeed and I hope maybe he gets an offer from a rival team for next season.

Grosjean was lucky in that he was dropped by Renault at the end of 2009 after replacing Piquet but won his place back with good performances in gp2.

There's not too many seats available. Not even for paying drivers. Just ask Pasta Maldanado.

honestly, i don't particularly feel sorry for kvyat.
he should have gotten a much bigger penalty then what he got in the last race, and if it wasn't in russia he would have had it.
seats in F1 are very limited. a lot less than the talent available. you can't drive like an idiot and pretend nothing happened.
china was bad enough, but thsi was the worst driving perfomance in f1 in many years.
he had his chances and he still has a drive so he should consider himself lucky. hopefully this will be a wakeup call for him
if he does well the remainder of the season, he will get another drive somewhere, otherwise someone else will be more than readyto take his place

in any case, part of it is politics. i think redbull couldn't wait to get verstappen in their car and nip in the bud all attempts by other teams to steal him away, so this was just the perfect excuse

Great qualifying session.
Hamilton again showed why he is world champion. Just hope there are no dramas with his car tomorrow.
Great result at RBR to. DR is third after trailing Max early on.
I think he is one of the nicest guys on the grid, so really pleased to see him keep I front of Max. Vettel had a bit of a shocker in 6th.

Great for the home crowd to see Alonso in Q3. Button was only just outside as well, so progress at McLaren.

agreed on all.

wouldn't be surprised if Lewie rolled off 4 wins in a row either. I hope not tho. ;)

Thing is even if he did, if Nico picked up 4 second places, then it wouldn't make that much of a difference.
Maybe we need to see Max plough into Nico twice at the start.
What would RBR do then?

It would be fantastic if Ferarri or Red Bull found a way to win the race tomorrow. Maybe a turn 1 incident between Lewie and Nico takes them both off the podium. I might watch the entire race if that happens :)

That would work to. It would just be interesting to see what RBR would do!

i think the demotion of kvyat has more to do with promoting and locking up verstappen and his (IMO) unquestionably superior talent, than the blunders of kvyiat (even though they were bad).
the crashes just gave RBR an excellent casus belli to do the swap earlier rather than later.
i might be wrong, but i think max will repay them in spades, while i am not sure kvyat has a secure future in f1. He does has some talent, but so do a bunch of other drivers, currently with or without an f1 seat, but his biggest asset is that he is russian and thus worth a ton.

was very surprised by the poor form the ferrari displayed in quali. I like ferrari, but at this point i am afraid red bull might have passed them (while mercedes is just on a different level atm)

As above and stated by Christian today when he was interviewed by ch4. He stated it was a way to lock max into a contract as the rest of there lineup have longer contracts

True. The demotion was really a way to tie up Max on a better contract in a better car.
Yes he is the better driver, and due to his age will probably go on to do better things (if he gets the right package).
Just would like to see how RBR would spin it if he messed up.
