I wonder how big Riccardos grin is beneath that helmet?
Hope he can turn this into a win. A 1, 2 would be even better.
Don't know they are going to have the race pace to keep Vettel at bay.

As for the Mercs, wouldn't want to be team principle today!
Guess there will be two different views on the incident from their drivers.
Looked more Nico than Lewis's fault to my mind. But it could just be a race incident.

Hobbs blamed Nico. Well duh, you're English. Totally Lewie's fault.
??? Not sure we watched the same incident.
Aren't you supposed to give a car's width if they are alongside? Especially if it's your team mate!
Not run them onto the grass.

Meanwhile I think Vettel has the win now. Daniel has stayed out too long.

yeah, you're english too, eh?

Nico was in front and drove a line defending his position.

Lewis tried racing on the green instead of just waiting for a better chance.

The real problem with Hamilton ( and before that with Alonso) is that he really thinks there are two sets of rules, one for him to break and another for everybody to follow.

Sure Schumacher also used plenty of unfair tactics in his time, but he wasn't such a crybaby when being caught or falling victim to someone elses tricks.

Agreed.

And proud!
[doublepost=1463318446][/doublepost]Can Max do the unthinkable though? What a dream debut either way.

I hoped you liked Damon Hill too...? I loved him.

Nicky Lauda blamed Lewie, A German/Austrian(?) taking a German's side. ;)

(lap 59 as I write this) Also, I'd love for Max to win but going about like he's done something amazing when it was handed to him because of attrition... Yeah, he's done ok getting up there and keeping it, but this would a 3rd place finish at best if it weren't for dumb luck.

Damon was a fair driver but he never had the absolute speed and could only win the champinship when he had a superior car combined with the competition (Schumacher) struggling with his one.

Matchett you idiot! change it all!!! If the Mercs weren't out we wouldn't have **** to cheer about!

sorry our tv guy, steve matchett, who i really like, just said don't change anything about the rules or the packages.
[doublepost=1463319938][/doublepost]NIce. Well done Max!

Great race and great win for Max. The perfect debut.
Such a shame for Daniel. I'm sure he would have got Vettel on those last few laps had the traffic been bit kinder to him.
But yes had the 2 Mercs been out in front I'm sure the excitement for 3,4,5 and 6th wouldn't have been so intense.
Good to see the Ferrari boys congratulating Max.

At least neither of them scored. Still a great margin to makeup. Move on to Monaco next. Lewis had class handling this.

DC says it's due to Nico slowing down mid corner.
It's just a shame that is what they are talking about instead of what was a great race.
Just shows how good F1 can be if the cars are evenly matched.

I felt like that too. If there was more room for straight line speed, maybe, only lewie messes up.

I know hey? On the one hand you want to give credit to Mercedes for what they have accomplished but on the other hand the sport continues to suffer when one team has such a huge advantage.

Tremendous day though. Incredible how both powerhouse Mercs take each other off paving the way for an 18 year old to win his first ever grand prix on his first weekend with his new team.

That's interesting... is this the same Steve Matchett who was a member of that ill-fated pit crew at Hockenheim in 1994 where race winner Max Verstappen's father Jos was flambéed?

i hope they do it again in MC. nobody getting hurt of course.

i take this as final proof that jinxing is a real thing! :D :D
i am sure there were hundreds of millions of people that have been wishing this precise outcome off turn one for some time now.

i know it is not sportsmanlike, and i am aware i am highly biased against mercedes atm (because they are so dominating), but i jumped up with a resounding "yes!" when they took each other out. :D
I have been a big fan of verstappen since his debut, and i am a Scuderia man in general, so for me this was pretty much a best case scenario.
that said, the race was really fun to watch and both duels at the end were great to watch, especially ricciardo-vettel, even if neither was ultimately successful. too bad about the puncture at the end, but I was happy he at least got to keep 4th.
