How would you tell? :D

Because it blows up past 75%!:D
Was a comment that jenson made yesterday when he was interviewed. I think they will be stronger in the race as everyone will dial back again with exception of Ferrari. They will push for a fair bit as there after wins.

I wonder how much the Mercs have in reserve? A fair bit I'm guessing.

But even that time doesn't mean they are running to the Max. I'm guessing they are holding back even during qualifying. Should be a good race anyhow. I'd love to see a night race one day.
I'm with you on seeing a night race.

Holding back I'm not sure. Well they could be but they defiantly made a jump for Hamilton to beat the record.

An absolute dumpster fire of a race. I love it, though.
It's overtakes everywhere! Might even have three different constructors on the podium.
More likely a Mercedes 1-2 though. Fair play to Lewis. He bogged down at the start, but we were denied a challenge between the two Mercs by Bottas thinking Lewis would just let him through. At least the stewards got it right for once.

I've been following the race with twitter; the HAAS team debit is something else and Roman's new found form is something else.

#C4F1 #F1 #BahrainGP #f1bahrain
It was a good race. Yes it was pretty easy for Nico once Vettle dropped out and Bottas wounded Lewis's car. Good recovery from him to get third.
Williams were very disappointing.
But the drive of the day was from Stoffel who got 10th in his debut.

LH was unfortunate but his start also let him down
NR: did everything right, I want to see him under pressure from LH to see if he really has shook that monkey off as he is looking solid so far.

I was impressed with Vandoorne, he shut the door firm on Jenson at the beginning and showed good racing craft, I hope he gets a McClaren seat, I thought his debut was better than Kevin's.

Grosjean and HAAS have been the surprise of the season by contrast so is Force India's poor form.

Grosjean had a great season with Lotus just 3 yrs ago! I suggest he hasn't re-found his form but has, hopefully, a halfway decent car now...

The engines are starting to look like Ferrari is a small step behind Mercedes, so I feel like Haas is just making the most of a good engine partnership. Haas has some EXCELLENT engineering talent behind their car. Such a great day for F1.

Very interesting so far. Reports are that Merc has a new clutch coming for China to sort out their starts.

So far I'm loving the Torro Rosso results and have to admire the Haas team! Excellent work all around. I remember Gene Haas saying a year or so ago that he'd put as much Ferarri in his car as the rules would allow and it is definitely paying dividends - all credit to them.

My only fear is that Haas' results are opening the door very, very wide for customer cars - which I don't believe is right for F1.

But let's see how the season unfolds, it's way too early to be making definitive conclusions.

Let's all be honest, here. If Haas decides to build a Ferrari, they'll never win the WC. They just won't. Ferrari will always do it better until the contract between Haas and Ferrari ends, and Ferrari does to Haas what Mercedes did to Renault.

The factory teams will only help the customers until they are perceived as a real threat. Mercedes was never going to help Red Bull because Red Bull was a legitimate contender to beat them with the same power plant. That's the problem with F1.

Unfortunately, as long as Bernie is running the show, pseudo (like Haas) or actual Customer Cars are going to be the only way to keep the grids at 18+ cars as only factory teams can really compete now.

Lotus had to sell out to survive and Force India and Sauber are likely not going to last much longer. They'll either need to make factory deals like Haas did or they'll go under. And Manor is only still with us because they did a deal with Williams similar to what Haas has done and they likely have subsidized Mercedes power thanks to Pascal.

I'm worried about Williams, as well. The monies from back-to-back 3rd places in the Constructor's Championship has helped prop them up, but if they start sinking to mid-field again, I don't think they'll be able to keep going long-term. McLaren is effectively a factory team right now thanks to Honda, but if they lose them and have to buy their engines, that could hurt them seriously.

Hence my fears. Gone are the days when a madman with a dream could take on the big boys and it dilutes the sport.

I tend to agree with Lewis Hamilton that we need to move quite a long way away from aerodynamic grip and back to mechanical grip.

At least then, with a good engine and suspension set up people might stand a chance. Now with the whole hybrid and aero situation it is so hard for new teams to do well without basically becoming a existing teams's baby sibling.

At last common sense prevails! Hopefully we'll get some good qualifying action in China.

I agree. I would venture Haas took the Ferrari route because it is the smartest path into F1 when you jump in mid-cycle. Until the regulations change and there is an engineering free-for-all, nobody has a chance anyway. But like this, they could earn some good cash. It would be interesting to see if Ferrari pulls their engine if Haas engineers a great car when the rules change in 4 years.
