you returned a 2019 2.4 for a 1.4?

I haven’t got the 1.4 yet, but yes that is what I am in the process of doing. My main issue was headaches from the screen which I didn’t have with the nTB. The screen if the 1.4 looked better to me in the store, so I decided to take a chance with it. I had to reorder the machine because I neglected to use my gift card at the time of my first order. In the time that it takes to get here I’m considering going with 8/256 instead of 16/512. The thinking is I would plan to upgrade sooner like a year or two, instead of trying to keep the machine as long as possible.

Why dont you return it and get a new one. You are clearly unsure about the machine.
I could but I'd rather first hear from other entry MBP 1.4 owners if they have the same problem with battery being weak under high load. If it turns out to be common (weaker battery in 1.4 vs 2.4 or any other new MBP), then there is no point for returning the machine. So I rather do not like to do it blindly, because if the battery is the same in another 1.4 it is always possible to end up with some other issues, and since I have already installed all my stuff on machine that would be just too much bother to do if nothing changes.

So I'm hoping 1.4 model owners could use few minutes of their time to check their if their battery is weak or strong from the start under high load.

I would have waited but then I’d have lost the option to return.

Interesting. You had the same issue with your entry MBP 2019?
Was it with smp or dsy battery and how much drop you saw under high load?

Oops sorry I interpreted the post incorrectly. I did not have that issue.

What issue was? You did not see battery drop like I described or you never tested it?

I just realized you were talking about 2.4 model earlier. You still have 1.4 model coming? Would be interesting to hear if current stock units have better battery.

I really don’t think you’re going to see a difference with headaches between screens!

They are not using the same panel and probably it is not from the same brand. I learned from searching a demo units to check battery issues that 1.4 and 2.4 models do not even use the same brand battery. All 2.4 units had SWD brand battery and they were strong, practically no drop under highest load.

In 1.4 model they seem to use SMP commonly, maybe there can be DSY too which likely do not suffer from capacity drop under load. When checking different demo units, the ones with DSY battery were always going very strong, and even oldest demo model had basically about 100% battery health.

I know I have both... I really don't think significantly so, that will help headaches? I could be wrong...

I thought it’s worth a try. If I’m wrong I’ll figure out what to do then. I don’t have any problem with my windows machine.

Did you order 1.4 already?

I did but then I cancelled even before it shipped. With all the rumors of imminent updates/redesigns I decided I won’t bother with future proofing, just buy enough fir today so 8/256 should be fine. I am exploring Windows options as well hence the delay.

Surely you can find better overall Windows machines cheaper (it you can live without well calibrated P3 display but in exchange you do not suffer from banding (at least none of my Windows machines in last 15-20 years haven't looked like MBP and MBA still look these days in certain gradient patterns). For example Zenbooks are very nice.

But in my case I wanted Apple and ability to extend my Apple ecosystem, but yeah, while machine has premium in certain parts and looks, it has subpar parts also, like slow SSD and terrible speakers (they are about what you get with almost any decent Windows machine around price range starting from half of the MBP). I have also Zenbook but I also wanted MacOS device for myself.

Do you see charge cycle count increasing in your unit faster than actual 100% total use, like increase by 1 every 80-90% of use? One charge cycle should be from using 100% to 0% battery in what ever way, so like 100% to 50% twice or 100%-66,67% three times and so on. For some reason in my unit that runs accelerated speed.

Here is thread about it

Anyone upgrade from a 2012 rMBP (Or thereabouts) to the new base MBP? I really want to upgrade, but I’m curious how much of an impact I’ll see in real world usage.

I would appreciate an SSD speed test. That is the exact config I'm looking to purchase. Thank you!

I have a 2019 1.4/8/256 MacBook Pro and I notice it runs fairly warm during light tasks (email open, web browsing). It's not hot to the touch but I notice on the left side of the keyboard/palm rest, that it sometimes feels warm.

I have Mac Fan Control installed and it rarely turns on and is usually 0RPM but just wondering if anyone notices the heat as well?
