Do you notice top case bending a little when pressing with finger between G and H keys on the keyboard?
I think entry Pro chassis is softer in that part. Also typing noise is higher on some keys than other, like in my entry Pro W key is louder than P key. That could have something to do with parts underneath keyboard, since keys feel equal under finger (need same force to press them) but P is more dampened while W is more hollow sounding.
no bending whatsoever.........

Thanks for posting that pic. What is that "heat transfer pad" material? Gotta keep the ding dong happy in winter. :p

thanks again
I have both the 2019 2.4 and 1.4 and I can tell you there is basically no difference......

I have both the 2019 2.4 and 1.4 and I can tell you there is basically no difference......
Do you mean no difference in bending when pressing location I mentioned on keyboard on both 1.4 and 2.4?

Because today I had saw both 1.4 and 2.4 demo units at the same shop and I was able to feel the difference in materials. It was quite noticeable that keyboard bend more in 1.4 in the middle (between keys G and H) and also left part of the keyboard was bending more. However from H key toward right bending was practically none and it was the same as in 2.4. In 2.4 model there was no bending in any location of the keyboard, so I think it may be after all due to dual fan making kind of a support underneath the keyboard. Do you hear that difference in your units?

Shop had quite a lot ambient noises from other peoples, air conditioning and such so it was hard to test keyboard noise but when putting my ear close to keyboard I noticed that in 2.4 keys were silent in all location while in 1.4 model keys above cooling fan were as silent as in 2.4 but towards middle and from there to the left it got noisier. Anyway very hard to hear at shop conditions. Keyboards felt quite similar under finger. Hard to say but just as if both were a little softer than mine but it could be partly just from noise that did cover hollow sounds at store, and probably hollow sound is what makes keyboard keys "feel" stiffer to press. Or there are different keyboards randomly used. I checked demo unit manufacturing plant and date. It was from the same plant as mine and manufacturing date just little older than mine.

I also turned both units over and tested bottom plates by lightly knocking them with my knuckles. They both had the same hollow sounds when placing ear close to the bottom plate. Obviously some Pro model feature because in my Air 2018 bottom plate felt and sound completely solid. Or was that from the swelling battery? That unit had weak battery so who knows...

I also quickly checked displays and they were pretty identical, even colors seemed about the same, just some difference in color temp. Both had very slight uniformity so that left part was reddish and right part bluish slightly darker (very suble and hard to see).
In 2.4 wa LG panel and in 1.4 was the same as mine. I also noticed that this FMX may be referring to serial number. In 2.4 with LG panel also show the same length string starting with F but after that no the same but had same number of characters in it, so it just may be referring to serial no. In 2.4 ioreg command clearly said LP.... so on as panel type, so definitely LG but in 1.4 there is nothing clearly shown with the same command other than that FMX.... So it remains a mystery, what the panel really turns out to be.

Interestingly 2.4 model had SWD battery (maybe referring to Sunwoda?) and 1.4 had SMP (Simplo) just like my 1.4.

So in short chassis bending in keyboard area was much worse in 1.4 while 2.4 was almost solid as a rock.
Keyboard keys felt about the same how they felt under finger when pressing them. Keyboard noise was louder in 1.4 from keyboard middle and toward left, but was about the same in right part keys, but that noise test was very hard to make in conditions at the shop.

I was saying no I didn't see any bending at all with 2.4 and maybe slight with the 1.4, the 1.4 definitely doesn't feel as strong as a material in the areas you indicated...OR maybe it is just that the 1.4 doesn't have the extra fan etc. that the 2.4 has therefore not as "structurally" as strong?

I agree, it might be partly (or all) from the fact that 2.4 has more solid structure due to extra fan and also heatpipe is larger.

Do you hear the same difference in 1.4 that keys on the right side are more silent sounding and gradually increase towards center to left, and also get hollow sound towards left? That definitely backs up the theory that more stuff in 2.4 makes it more solid feeling and reduce keyboards noise. Also can you feel keys on the 1.4 needing more force to press and feeling more clicky? Because that was not so evident at the shop conditions as it is at home testing my 1.4 alone.

yes I hear the same thing on the 1.4 as you...and yes the keys need more force to go down in my opinion on the 1.4, but that could be a good thing (more travel) to some... it reminds me of the 15"...

Can you actually see the key travel being longer in 1.4 model, or is it more like feeling it is longer? Also see my other questions below.

I noticed this on the 1.4 too, but I did not want to say anything. I thought it was just my keyboard.
So it definitely looks like it is more or less normal for entry Pro, and probably increased typing noise from center to left is likely structural thing - more empty space underneath that location compared to 2.4 model.

However I'm still a little puzzled after yesterday when I was briefly able to test 1.4 and 2.4 side by side at the same store (I think the 2.4 was even the same computer I tried earlier when noticing keyboard being silent and soft feeling).
Of course conditions at store are what they are due to strong lights and background noises even this store had no loud music or anything else played on the speakers background and while there was other peoples they weren't being loud or anything but there are still much more ambient noises due to AC/HVAC and such vs. at home it is so silent I could hear mouse farting in the next room. :)

Anywhere my point being here is that between demo units I did not really noticed much all difference in key travel or pressure needed to press the keys between 1.4 and 2.4, but I could hear the same thing as at home with my 1.4 that keys from middle and towards left were louder than on the right side.
And more confusing is that from them memory what 2.4 (and 1.4) keyboards felt at the store meaning pressure needed to press the keys felt like it was less than what I need on my 1.4 at home. Again it might just be due to the fact that at home is so silent so you can hear much more clearly keyboard noises and maybe it causes that, OR there are two different types of keyboards used (one that needs more force and has longer key travel vs soft and short key travel version).

I need to check that some day again and try to feel the keyboard better at store to be able to say for sure.

Yesterday I checked 1.4 demo unit's manufacturing details very carefully and I noticed the unit was from the same factory as mine (serial number starts with C0) but it was slightly older 4th and 5th character in serial number were Y and Q in that model while mine is 4 weeks newer. Also demo unit was SG color, mine is silver. But all details I checked with parts I could find data using different ways, matched to my unit.

Can you guys check the serial number from your units and we could compare in case there is some difference based on manufacturing factory and date. You do not need to list whole serial number here, just first 2 and then 4th and 5th character (4th character should be Y meaning first part of the year 2019 and 5th tells the week).

Its known that you can see and the keys are higher for more travel in the 15", that is what the 1.4 reminds me of that I don't see on the 2.4, 2.4 seem softer yet solid.

Yes very small difference, hardly noticeable at all....

go to the store right when they open so its not so noisy and busy.......

Do you see and feel mentioned things (hollow and feeling clicky keyboard)?
Yours if from different factory (Foxconn something, while C0 like mine is from Quanta) and one week newer than mine.

Is there also SMP/Simplo battery in entry Pro made in this factory (what yours say for full charge capacity vs design charge capacity)?

I like the feel of this keyboard actually. I had a July '18 13"MBP w/TB previously - this feels more solid and much quieter.
SMP yes - Full charge capacity 5114 mAh

Do you mean that you do not notice mentioned problems in your unit, or you just prefer it that way?
No hollow sounding keys in the middle and toward left while tight side keys are solid?

Do you have many charge cycles on your battery? Mine has 6 charge cycles and full charge capacity is fluctuating around 5200 and can be few tens below or over.

I had today opportunity to briefly tests at another shop older Macbook Pro models 2017 nTB and 2018 2,3GHz. My findings were that structural issues are on 2017 nTB pretty much identical to those in 2019 entry Pro. Keyboard on nTB had very obvious bending between keys G and H and also in keys on the left part of the keyboard. Also keyboard was noisier and hollow sounding on the middle and towards left. Right side felt solid. So it seems that has been copied from 2017 nTB model to 2019 entry Pro.

2018 TB 2,3GHz model felt a lot like 2019 2.4 model but I noticed that this one has keyboard hollow sounding in the middle . I did not pay attention to keys in the middle much and I'm not sure if it did the same. Structure is pretty identical in 2018 and 2019 models so hollow middle probably come from that cooling fans are located on the left and right edge, so middle part in without this "additional reinforcement". other than heat pipe.

However keyboard felt nice, soft and mostly silent except in the middle. While 2017 nTB at the shop ambient noise and other conditions considered felt and sound more like what entry Pro sounds like at home. Interesting. My guess is that there are two different latest butterfly keyboards used in entry Pro OR not being able to test my own unit side by side at the same room just gives wrong results.

--yeah its a nice model for sure! the 1.4... not sure what Im gonna do yet, may just go back to a 15"to be honest since prices dropped on the apple site, I didn't even notice that!!?

Have you compared 2019 entry Pro demo models at stores? Do you feel the same clickyness and need more force to press the keys, or do they feel ok? Best way would be testing units side by side to make sure...

What battery and full charge capacity on your 1.4?

Does anyone know when Apple lowered their prices on the 13" 2.4 from $1799 to 1699 and other models? I must have missed this!

Where are you seeing 1699? I still see 1799. Maybe you’re seeing education pricing?

When you slide your fingers on the keyboard left and right do you notice difference between 1.4 and 2.4 with how keycaps rattle loosely? There is a small "play" in the butterfly mechanism connecting to keycaps making that sound. Just interested if you hear difference. Because yesterday when I had a chance to test between 2017 nTB and 2108 TB models at store I could practically hear almost nothing in 2018 but it was noticeable in 2017 (2dn gen butterfly).

I know conditions at store are so hard to make judgement but I felt it was almost as loose in 2017 as in my 2019 entry Pro. Also pressure needed to press they keys between 2018 and 2017 models at store and then my own at home felt like (regarding noise and clicks feeling under finger when pressing the key) my entry Pro 2019 is about the same as 2017 nTB.
Two days ago when I had chance to test entry Pro 2019 and 2.4 Pro demo models I felt there like difference in clickyness was almost none between the two. Again that was in store conditions so could it be just ambient noise there making my own entry Pro 2019 sound (and feel) so much different at home? Or are there two difference types of keyboards used in entry Pro 2019 model?

yeah I didn't really hear much of a difference between the two sound wise, it still does seem the 1.4 is more difficcult to press down, so more travel (which reminds me of the 15") but I personally like that compared to the shallow of the 2.4......thats not just G< H, its all keys to me...

It starts to looks like there might be two different types of keyboards used in this model.
Or store conditions just make so much more to evaluate.

Regarding G an H keys I meant chassis bending that are when pressing the area between the two keys.

I noticed another interesting thing, not sure it is normal.
I just purchased Samsung T5 USB-C SSD external HDD. When it is connected and I run Blackmagic test MacBook makes tiny buzzing sound during reading. Is that normal? Sound is not strong but it can be heard in silent room, and even with sounds mute in MacBook, so probably not from speakers. When I use spinning USB hdd and do the same test I hear nothing.

Anyone have the Samsung T5 (or other external USB SSD) they could test with their entry Pro?

Is there any power saving adjustment to stop slight pauses after 5 second inactivity?
I mean like when I'm browsing this forum and I don't touch the trackpad for over 5 seconds or more, there is a slight pause until scrolling happens after I scroll the page? Under 5 seconds inactivity and it is immediately but 5 seconds or more slight pause and it is with and without power supply connected.

EDIT. If I keep my two fingers on the trackpad it does not make that pause after 5 seconds not moving my fingers to scroll the page.

EDIT2. Checking my machine with GeekBench or Cinebench show performance as normal (actually slightly better than some initial reviews show, for example in Cinebench I got over 1640) and CPU cooling fan turns on when needed, actually running the Cinebench was the first time I even heard it turning on so far (So my use normally is pretty light). I also noticed that during Cinebench running battery full charge capacity dropped a little during test I ran on battery (to around 4900mAh or so, it was just fully charged and pretty warm when I ran the test) when power consumption was nearly 40W but after test finished it returned to normal well above 100% of design change. Others seeing the same in their entry Pro?

I doubt there is a power saver feature like that solely on a particular MBP model. I've been using Macs for years and have never noticed such an issue, indeed the trackpad snappiness is one of the main reasons I still use Macs. I don't have a Macbook Pro 2019 (yet) but I spent a good 30 minutes to an hour typing / coding on different models in the Apple store near me, and I did not notice the trackpad lag you describe.

I also think you're blowing the keyboard feel / flex a little out of proportion. Sure, there are keyboard differences between MBP models, but if you go that far into the details then you also have to take into account the differences between different machines of the exact same model.

I was able to try multiple machines, 1.4GHz, 2.4GHz.. the keyboard on different 2.4GHz machines feel slightly different. Same goes for 1.4GHz. I remember liking my friends MBP 2013 keyboard more than my own even though I had the same model. As far as I'm aware this has always been the case, so you will never be able to ascribe such minute differences to one model or another.

Now the chassis flex I did not notice (maybe I type softer than you guys? haha) but I will check it out next time.

Has anybody come from a 2017 13" MBP? I just bought a 2017 base, but now wonder if the 2019 would be a better choice. Granted I paid less than a grand for the base 2017.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I had a 2017 base. I upgraded mainly because of the keyboard. I started using my laptop for work and I was getting too many complaints about noisy typing when taking notes during calls. Otherwise, performance-wise the 2017 base was fine. I'm still in 2 minds about returning the 4TB3 (2.4) model and getting a 2TB3 (1.4) model instead.

What is the configuration of your base model? If it's 8/128, then the 2019 base is not that much more.
