Hmmm...I just want the smallest possible phone (within reason), without compromising on the camera...and my phone should be due for an update this fall.

Last time round I got the iPhone 7 Plus, and that's just too effing big, but - at the time - I decided to get that because the regular 7's camera didn't have optical stabilator (I think it was). 2 and a half years later the phone is still way too big...

iPhone Pro is inevitable with Timmy in charge. Only for $1999. The XR, XS amd XS Max will get only spec bumps with the real goodies for iPhone Pro.

That camera module looks terrible. I'd like to think Apple wouldn't do something so bad, but we already have big offset camera bumps and notches, so...
Besides Huawei has already done the "squircle" on the Mate 20 Pro in 2018. As terrible as that module is, at least they had the decency to center it. Here's hoping Apple goes with something else.

Or course it looks way better & visually balanced centered in the middle like that, but is it "Courageous" ?

I like the idea of charging my Watch on the back of my iPhone while traveling, but please make the phone USB-C instead of lightning. I'm tired of all the cables I have to purchase/carry.

Here comes iPhone Pro
Yep. Pro users want specs. A tools look is based on its purpose. It looks fine to me. The users who want advanced capabilities will get this. The ones who put a flower inside their VW bug will get a rose gold something else.

That mock up with the camera set up on the back looks so obtrusive. I mean, I gather we don’t really look at the back of our iPhones, and most use cases, but that design element looks oddly strange. But on the other perspective, I am curious to see what improvements this triple lens camera can offer, and with more improved Low light photos.

How many take pictures in the dark anyways?

After reading the Japanese article, here is my take:
  • 6.1-inch OLED model: have the size close to Galaxy S10 (smaller bezel it seems), probably successor to XS
  • 6.5-inch OLED model: successor to the XS Max
  • the camera modular would be HUGE cause every single lens is bigger than XR's

Is this a serious question? I would be willing to believe a lot of iPhone users take pictures in darker settings. Anyone has experience with the iPhone camera conditions, knows that they photos don’t turn out the best. It’s one of the weak points for the iPhone. Ultimately, I’d like to see something optimized what Google Night Sight has offered.

Fine by me, just ship me the 5.8 version whenever it comes out. The camera still looks odd to me, but it will look fine in the final release. I typically don't look at the back of my phone much anyway, just need it to be a quality camera.

I have a indication that the camera won’t look exactly like these renders, maybe it might be more more minimalized. I think the renders just make this camera look so obtrusive, but I agree, The final product hopefully will be more blended.

With that camera cluster on the back Apple can call it the iPhone Trypophobia Edition.

The least I expect from these overpriced iPhones is the introduction of USB-C port for faster data transfer to PC. But it would really be a huge shame if they stick to antiquated Lightning port which can’t even do USB 3 speeds. They did it with last year’s iPad Pros why not with iPhones this year? How much fragmentation do we need in Apple land?
What use case is there for data transfer? Aside from setting up the device, assuming your internet connection is slow. I could see adopting USB-C for fast charging, but making the argument for data transfer is folly. Now if we want to talk about using the iPhone as a portable, dockable Mac replacement, that would certainly demand faster throughput.

Agree. But I hope they do not do it in a way that the photo looks overexposured as if they were taken in day time, losing the dark setting.

I want to like this, but it's kinda ugly in a disturbing way. Lacks the Apple aesthetic, IMHO. Still might buy it, though.

That's my point, the whole song and dance with going to all glass was for wireless charging. Now that they failed in that department, shouldn't they switch back to aluminum back? Much more durable and my gosh, so much lighter!

Nah. Have to remember that wireless Apple CarPlay is slowly being adopted in new vehicles, and many new models are now sold with Qi charging pads built into the car. Stats show customers largely prefer wirelessly charging their phone vs plugging it in when they get into their car, so at the very least Apple would keep wireless charging for that incentive. Not to mention standard not-going-back-on-current-progress and retaining features found in competitor smartphones.

Me in April: This camera design looks like absolute butt. I’d never buy this garbage. Guess this is the year I’m not upgrading.

Me in September: TAKE MY MONEY, APPLE!!

Apple seem to have the same Pre-Jobs problem. Can’t figure out who to market to, so make tons of products and hope they sell. There’s a significant cost to keep production going, inventory stocked, support services, etc for all these lines.

Having 7 or so active phones with multiple colors / configurations of each means you may get more customers, but the costs to get them are much, much higher so your pricing is up there too.
Most ppl i know have gotten out of the new phone craze. Now we just get new phones when our old ones die. But it seems like the fad of getting a new phone each year has passed. So i think ppl like Apple and others try to provide as many new ones every to tempt you.
