I have owned every iPhone since I switched to T-Mobile since the 6S. The 7 and the XS have been major jumps, so far, if the rumors are true, the iPhone XI seems as if it may be the first phone I skip since skipping the 5S and 6. :(

Most ppl i know have gotten out of the new phone craze. Now we just get new phones when our old ones die. But it seems like the fad of getting a new phone each year has passed. So i think ppl like Apple and others try to provide as many new ones every to tempt you.
My theory is now that people keep their phones as long as it'll last. Apple wants to sell it to you at the highest pricepoint they can, hence removing the cheaper options.

I believe this. Apple can sell the higher end iPhones with cool features and USB-C, while keeping the other iPhones fairly similar to last year’s.

It’s smart honestly. Have a whole spectrum of options / price options, but have the most dramatic changes be the most expensive.

I don’t know if putting USB-C on the high-end phones while keeping lightning on lower-end is smart. It would contribute to fragmentation among their own userbase. Visiting a friend who has a lightning iPhone and forgot your charger? Guess you won’t be able to charge then. Sure the same could be said about switching to USB-C on all phones, there’d still be mostly lightning out there for a long time but at least then all would slowly switch instead of having different ports for different phones continue for an unbearable amount of time.

If we’re talking strictly aesthetics, nothing is as ugly as the iPhone 6 series.

They are actually suggesting 2019 will see the following new iPhones:
- iPhone XR 2
- iPhone XS 2
- iPhone XS Max 2
- iPhone X1
- iPhone X1 Max
That's if I read the article correctly.

I don't buy this whole article. 3 lenses is ridiculous when some phone are taking great pictures with 1. And why are they updating internals of old phones? When did they do that on a yearly basis? The only time I can remember is with the 5S and called it the SE.

There has to be a translation error or something. I thought they had stopped selling the X anyway.

I really think people are holding onto their phones longer, last year was the first year ever I skipped upgrading I could not justify an upgrade do to the higher cost and the small overall changes in the hardware.

Apple really needs to step up their game (Better Battery life and going back to a reliable modem chipset) would be a good start as my Iphone X has the worst reception over all the other iphones I have owned and bring the prices back down they will sell more phones and make a larger profit over all.

Design wise, its VERY unApple, and frankly... I'd very much like to see more upgrades on functionalities other than just camera and CPU/GPU..

It will need to have ultra-wide angle and 15X optical zoom camera, otherwise can't compete with Huawei P30 Pro.

Dunno about y'all, but as a guy with an iPhone X, I'm gonna buy the hell out of this thing come September. Right now I'm much more excited to see what's contained in the dev betas of iOS 13, though.

Instead of adding more gimmickry like triple, quadruple, whatever camera lens and whatnot, Apple should take the opportunity of a "quiet" 2019 (does anyone really expect any major changes to iPhones this year?) and drop prices across the board.

My Xs Max is good as is, wont be upgrading to those ugly iPhones with a tumor on their back.

The word disjointed comes to mind. I get the feeling that they have absolutely no idea what they are doing with these phones lately. I think they need to go back to the drawing board on marketing 101.

The premium market in which Apple operates in is based off value, not price.

iPhone XR -> iPhone Air (2019)
iPhone XS -> iPhone (2019)
and introducing iPhone Pro

iPhone Pro = Triple lens, DSLR/SLT quality, Pro-Motion, Pencil 2, Smaller Notch, thicker body/larger battery, wireless charging pass-through

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They should have just increased the thickness so the phone was a uniform thickness and no bump - plus we'd get even better battery life and it'd look nice.

Wonder if Apple will switch to aluminum rather than heavy glass back, given their failure with the chargining mat.

Yea you can use any third party wireless charger, but it takes forever; beats the purpose

Don't think so, although I loved the metal backs as well.

You're incorrect on the wireless charging speed though compared with Apple's default 5w plug in charger - charging your iPhone off a Qi based wireless charging pad can see a speed increase of ~50%. Apple upped the iPhone's Qi speed to 7.5w... It's noticeably faster when you do it.

I don't buy anything these people say, since they keep saying every year that Apple will include a "USB-C to Lightning cable and an 18 Watt USB-C power adapter" and it's never happened. Just keep posting tons of ideas, eventually one will be correct.

How about making a thicker phone with a larger battery that lasts 2 days? Now, that's innovation!

My XS lasts 2 days (48 hours) with moderate use and 1 day (24 hours) with heavy use which is far better than my 7 did (which was like 14 hours at most during heavy use).

Yeah, this makes absolutely no sense. To be honest, I could totally see them just putting out the XI/XI Max and just giving the XR a spec bump. That seems way more likely than whatever the hell this rumor is.

It's 5.8" but has roughly the same footprint as the non plus 6/7/8 models.

I've been "blessed" with small hands so the 5S was perfect in terms of width and height. I can manage 6/7/8 size but it's just not comfortable and I'm at constant at risk of dropping it.

I understood it that way as well. I'm so confused lol!
