I charge my phone overnight when I sleep, and I'm usually north of 80% battery when it goes on the charger 18 hours later, so fast charging and the heat and battery degradation that comes with it is useless. Not to mention, I wirelessly charge anyway, which thankfully is capped at 7.5W. Wish it was still 5W though.

Apple owns Lightning, and can sell more adapters.

The only reason the iPad Pro got a usb port is because selling an iPad with Lightning and attempting to call it a computer would be false advertising. iPhones are not computers, so it's just silly by Apple logic to bring it down to a regular standard that would make everyone else's lives easier

Attempting to call an iPad “a computer” is false advertising with or without a USB C port.

Well iPad Pros use USB-C. It is as much as iOS device as iPhone does, probably needs charging just as much. Doesn't require a mouse either, although using it with a keyboard is ten times better. Does it mean iPad Pro is a lesser quality of Apple lineups?

Does it warrant the use of such fragile of a connector (as you claimed it to be)? iPad Pro is just as premium as the latest iPhones are, you know? It's not about which port is stronger in the long run, it's about compatibility and uniformity between Apple products. Right now I can buy iPad Pro and One Plus phones which uses the same port, I can charge it with the same cable, or plug in a USB-C accessories and they both will work just fine. It actually feels more uniform instead of me buying the new iPad Pro and iPhone XS? Don't you think that's ironic?

Get with the times actually means you shouldn't be afraid or upset if Lightning will be replaced by USB-C, eventually. Instead, you should urge Apple to complete the transition, ASAP.

I don't get all this about connectors. I have a 4 port USB charger. One port for the charging puck for my watch, one Lightning cable for my iPad and a mini USB for the generic wireless charger for my iPhone. No confusion at all. I have some USB-C hard drives but those have short cables to keep the throughput higher.
I found this adapter on Amazon.

I think having a weak charger has its advantages to those that charge their phones once a day when they go to bed at night. If you charge your phone before sleeping and sleeep for 8 hours then one does not need a charger with 18-30W output power as it would be bad for the battery. Now if one used their smartphone a lot and is outside most parts of the day then they may need one with a higher output that would charge their phone faster. Each has its advantage I reckon. Perhaps it would be cool to have one charger with two various outputs out of it. One for night time charging and one for day time quick charging.

They are pretty much making you do that anyway with the 5w charger. Pointless even using that. Wireless charging can charge it faster
That’s not true. For those who charge overnight, the 5w charger is fine, and probably better for your battery. I use the 12w charger that came with the iPad 2.

If one use cases means going from 0 to 50 in a half hour, you have to spend money. I don’t have that issue. I can pretty much charge everywhere these days.

A USB-C to Lighning cable would be almost as ridiculous as the Lightning earpods.

I love Lightning but can we just go to USB-C for everything please?

Available at Amazon.

That's what I mean alot who charge their iPhones they do so via other cables such as their ipads. Yes at night it might not be a big deal but if you need a quick charge its something you would need to pay big money for

I'm on my 5 or 6th iPhone and have a drawer full of chargers. I'm okay with no charger included in the next iPhone box. A 12w chargers cost $6 on Amazon. Apple could just give every buyer a $10 or $20 credit for in-store accessories and be done with it.

I’ve read that fast chargers shortens the life of a battery quicker than the 5W. Is this true?

Also, sure it’s cool with a faster charger, but I’ve actually never been in a situation were it was necessary - that’s just me I suppose:)

I dont know about how many actually “need” a quick charge that have a phone that’s capable of accepting a quick charge where minutes make a difference. If you are that type you can buy a batter pack for $50 that will last three years and provide power on the go on your terms.

Again, so as to not apply a generalized conversation to the masses, I would have no need of charging my max faster than it charges with what I currently own.

Just for clarity, please define "a computer". I use Raspberry Pi computers. They have all the I/O ports one could want but an iPad would blow its doors off as far as performance.

I'll likely keep my iPhone 8 for another couple of years but if the iPhone 11 ends up having USB-C with 4K TV Out and keeps 3D Touch i'll definitely buy it.

I'd like to have a phone that uses the same accessories my iPad Pro 2018 does.

It is weird to buy a Mac and an iPhone today and need an adapter to connect the two.
I think the iPhone will have Lighting, but they ought to put a USB-C -> Lighting cable in the box.

And reasoning like this is why apple can continue to get away with only supplying a 5w charger in the box. Clearly they feel its totally acceptable

Lightning is inconvenient, antiquated, and has got to go!
Care to elaborate? There’s a whole ecosystem build on Lightning. The port opening on the phone side is smaller.

Except for things like power delivery in USB-C, most things can be done by Lightning as well, some other would probably be possible with some Firmware update.

Yes, USB-C is bound to rule the (future) market, but that does not automatically equal Lightning being already antiquated.

Apple has never had 84% market share in ANY country, let alone China. Someone needs to double check their numbers lol.

Thanks for that. I read the post you were responding to and almost panicked and closed my entire AAPL position. LOL

The 5W adaptors are a joke. Yes, I sprung and paid $20 for a USB C to lightning cable and use a USB C charger from another device when my phone is uber low. I usually have a backup battery and keep my phone charged, so the wireless charging suits me fine for keeping things topped off. Yes, I have full charge “issues”.

Apple is supposed to be a premium product. Throwing that 5W adaptor in a box with an item that’s supposed to be “flagship” is just plain cheap....

Apple are one of the cheapest companies on the planet. That's what being profitable means. Tim even charges $20 to replace the tip on your $120 pencil rather than throw you a spare.

The 130th post from MR about how this years iPhone's will come with fast charging and USBC to lightning cables. Keep making the same prediction every year and one day they'll be right!
