I swear if we go down the *add multiple lenses and call it innovation* road, i'm not buying a phone for another 10 years! Animojis was gimmicky enough. Lordt.

no no no no no no no, just no.

Make the phone thicker, and just leave it with the two it already has, hell, one is enough. It's a phone, not a camera.

Looks like a fatal tumor.

Seriously, we need to get away from the camera bump trend. I loved how my old 5S's camera was flush with the rest of the phone. We need to go back to that.

Apple: "we've added a 3rd camera and thus the iPhone 11 now has a starting price of $1100."

macrumors: "well, you're getting a 3rd camera. apple is gonna sell these like crazy!!! you just DONT understand inflation!! apple and their marketing team know EXACTLY what they're doing with pricing."

I used to have a Sammy U100 years ago (image below) which had a camera bump that I thought was dumb at the time, but in these crazy days seems genius.

It had a full strip along the top which contained the camera and flash, which meant the thing never rocks back and fourth plus the full back of the phone is never flush with the table.

Perhaps Apples lozenge design language for their camera bumps could easily span the whole top of the phone with these ever increasing array of lenses and not look too weird?

Serial phone leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer has partnered with Indian tech site Digit to release some new renderings claimed to be of the next-generation iPhone, presumably scheduled to launch around September of this year.

2019_iphone_triple_camera_rendering.jpg

The distinguishing feature of the renderings is the rear camera, which is a large, unusual-looking patch housing three lenses in a triangular configuration, a flash, and a microphone.

Given the extremely odd appearance, we'd ordinarily dismiss such renderings out of hand unless additional evidence surfaced, but Hemmerstoffer has a long track record of sourcing information from the supply chains of Apple and other phone manufacturers. He does, however, acknowledge that this is a "freakingly early leak" and plans may change before the phone design is finalized.

At least one of this year's iPhone models is rumored to include a triple-lens rear camera, although early rumors are split on just what the third lens would be used for.

Some sources have indicated Apple is working on "time-of-flight" depth sensing for higher-quality augmented reality experiences, but reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is skeptical that the technology will make it into Apple's 2019 iPhones. A more traditional third camera lens could still be used for other purposes, however, such as for improving low-light performance or offering improved optical zoom capabilities.

Phone manufacturers have recently been racing to boost their camera lens counts to three, four, or even five in an arms race to make their devices stand out with unique features. Apple, however, has chosen to be selective in how it competes on rear camera specs, largely focusing on software and chip enhancements to improve photo quality while gradually moving to dual-lens rear cameras in its highest-end models.

but the design has already been leaked, we already know it has 3 cameras in a vertical position

Look at the Nexus 6p. That's what Google / Huawei did. I orginally hated the design but think it has been one of the best designed phones in recent times.

Another shiny glass turd, you can polish to your hearts content.

If they dont change design direction and release an aluminium / polycarbonate phone with a flush camera, that is reasonably priced, I will be seriously looking at android this September [but not samsung - just as bad].

I suspect I am not the only one.

Never understood the point of glass backs, even on Samsungs. Though this doesn't reach the nuttiness that Nokia's upcoming phone does with 5 camera lenses.

I would most certainly dismiss this as it conflicts with apple’s well known obsession with symmetry. The 3rd lens and the flash lines up with nothing. It just looks wrong. Unless apple just wants to be different from the current crop of triple camera smartphones which have it in a square configuration. But I highly doubt that too.
