Good luck finding any decent mobile phone with a headphone jack in the near future. Apple will never add the headphone jack back to their mobile devices.
I have already moved on from my iPhone SE. I've got an LG Stylo 3 that works very well... headphone jack, removable battery, micro SD card. The only downside is that it is larger than I prefer. Stylus support makes up for it so, not so bad.

But I understand that option is not for everyone. I'm equally comfortable with iPhones and Android phones and so I'm not limited by what Apple chooses to do. I'll switch back to an iPhone when it offers something that suits my needs. I'm not one of these either/or do-or-die fanatics. I buy whatever can work for me at a fair price.

I beg to differ. I am often having to do multiple swipes/attempts to get a successful authentication. TouchID worked much better for me and my use cases with near 0 re-attempts.

Perhaps you didn't look at the screen as you should.

It only happened to me when I am not looking at it.

Great for preparing timing for my cooking.

None of the credible leaks suggest it will keep the SE form factor.
Keeping the same form factor would make little sense but something akin to a X-series form factor with a 4.7 inch would make sense.
They would use XR materials (body and screen) and iPhone 8 internals. The size would be the same as a 5/5S/SE but the screen slightly bigger at 4.7 inch vs 4.

Nobody cares about the notch (save for a few complainers online who are so arrogant they think they speak for the entire smartphone buying world).

I don’t know if you’re referring to me with that statement, but I was certainly not implying that I speak for the entire smartphone buying world. Nor do I personally care about the notch or bezels. I am still on an iPhone 7. I was merely pointing out that if an average consumer is considering two devices and one has a notch and the other doesn’t, the notchless design could be a deciding factor. That’s all. If design didn’t matter, Apple would still be selling phones with a 2010 form factor.

I think it comes down to preferences. For me Face ID is so natural, I even forget it is there when I use the phone. Touch ID was great but for me, it was not as consistent as Fave ID. Now if the all screen Touch ID would be as good, I am all up for it, as long as we get an all edge to edge display without any notch.

We don't want a damn iPhone 8 SE! We want a small phone!!!!!

Thank you!

If they make an "SE" that's iP8 sized, they've totally missed it and should fully expect it to sell like garbage.

They'd not capture anyone who's currently on an SE for the size (I'd wager most of us) and as a value play, they'd be competing against used better models and their own refurbs of better models.

iPhone 8-SE is a horrific idea from the get go.

3D Touch was one of those things that I didn't really care about in the beginning; it seemed gimmicky, and not of much import. As I've gotten used to it, I can't imagine going back to not having it. I use it all of the time, especially for previewing links. I really hope that Haptic Touch has come along sufficiently enough to replace it.

It might not be why it existed, but it is why people bought it. Apple should care if it is clear people would buy it. I, like many others are staying with an SE until a model like this comes along.

Yep, it's why I bought it, and why I still use it today. The battery is showing signs of age, I plan on getting it changed. Large slab-phone, nope, nope, nope. Money isn't the issue.

While the extra RAM is appreciated and cameras should reach the “good enough” territory with the 2019 iPhones, I cannot wait until they make the notch 15% smaller so I can finally see my battery percentage without flicking down to Notification Center.

You said it yourself. It looks cool. Compared to a full, uninterrupted screen the notch looks like old hat. Keeping the notch will give consumers a reason not to buy an iPhone if full screen alternatives exist. So yes, that’s a problem.

You have option. Phones without Face identification. If you do not mind that you have not so wide palette of new Android phones that stopped copying Apple notch or have tinny one as do not need to put there Face ID sensors there.

I would love that 8/SE hybrid. I am using the 8 now and it's a beautiful piece of hardware and quite fast -- but even 6 months down the road I still find myself juggling it awkwardly to reach parts of the screen one-handed.

If anyone needs a clue that iPhones have gotten too big, look no further than the "reachability" hack (er, feature) Apple introduced to get around the basic ergonomic mismatch between hand and device.

You guys do realize these tech companies know about every feature you use on the operating system and base future product features on what is used and what isn't. 3D touch, if its really going away, it'll only be because nobody uses it and the numbers back up the decision.

Doubt they will ever put Touch ID back into the mix unless it is for the "iPhone SE 2" variant, but even then that is a stretch. Hopefully they won't put the iPhone 8 internals in it...but at least an A13 and hopefully A14.

Regarding the purported hideous 3 camera block, I hope they can do something magical and revolutionary with it, otherwise it may be just another gimmick.

Sounds like 2020 is the year to upgrade if at all.

At least with these mockups the rear cam doesn't look as ugly as some prior guesses.

I could go for an SE that runs like an XR but it might be pretty expensive so I'd settle for something with less camera tech, for instance. What I want in a smartphone is mostly not as much size and heft as there is in the XR, I seriously love my yellow XR but it quickly became a WiFi-only device and I've long since reverted to a 128GB SE as my "real cellphone". The XR to me has become a kind of mini-iPad-mini and I use it all day long but not to handle phone calls. I'll hang onto the XR longer than I would a regular sized smartphonem, but the SE is probably showing its age to iOS developers,,,, and I don't want to end up with a smartphone that won't run the lastest iOS, so I'm ready for a that-sized upgrade in 2020. If there's not one and the SE won't run iOS 13, for instance, then my fallback would probably have to be swapping the SIM back into the XR for another year. I'd not be happy taking calls on the thing though.

It's very surprising the number of people I talk to in person who never knew 3D Touch existed until I showed them, like changing the brightness of the flashlight, etc....

So, nobody was using the 3.5mm jack?

Very unsettling how they are going to remove the key feature of iPhone 6S. Apple even made 3D-Touch focused ads, and now they are silently abandoning it. Definitely not a move I wanted to see, as it is not about evolving iPhone anymore, clearly.

EDIT: I actually think that the MacRumors renders are the best so far. Really like the dark golden color.

Probably because this is what the actual 2019 iPhones are going to look like. Leaks of machine molds or half finished dummy units always look way worse than what actually gets released.

I would add that the actual iPhone will look even better than this because it’ll look like a solid black glass square with no individual cameras shown. There have been reports of Apple using a new coating that completely hides the lenses under black glass.

All fine by me. Hardware is essentially irrelevant to me today. I just need the best combination of performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support. As long as I can use the apps I need for work and personal use, I am good.

Something is already causing colon cancer to become a concern among people under 30. The stats on that are very concerning. Even with a genetic predisposition, I wasn’t supposed to have to worry about that form of cancer until my late 50’s. But pre cancerous version of the tumor that my father fought in his 70’s and my grandfather fought at 80 struck me in my 40’s. It was fortunately caught in time. But my time should not have come as soon as it did. I exercise and eat well enough but it is a typical modern diet.

So whatever we need to be afraid of is already out there. Probably GMO food, but nobody really knows. I’ve read some of the health concerns of 5G. I am concerned but I’m still already concerned about other technology already in use in smartphones. I’m concerned about so many environmental toxins my govt allowed to be used with no restriction. The genie was already let out of the bottle. Not that that is any comfort. It’s not.

At any rate there’s been people very vocal and fighting 5G implementation. Some of them fighting it not over health concerns but because it’s infringing on local government oversight. And still it’s steamrolling its way toward implementation. If you truly want to stop 5G I’m not sure how you’d go about it when so much money is behind rolling it out.

I’m fine with 4G phones. I’m looking forward to the new XR.
yep, I agree totally. These days its all about money and well being is secondary. I've recently moved from UK to Canada and I'm shocked how much worse the quality of the food and what is actually allowed in the food here. For all the bad things EU did there was one thing certain. EU protects food much better than North America.
I try to buy as much organic as i can but not always. I also avoid almost everything from USA unless its organic but even then I'm cautious.
So yeah, it is a problem. Food, pollution and modern tech that is being pushed without proper testing.
The stats on 5G are scary not to mention the amount of anntennas that will be need in comparison to 4G. Not saying that 4G is super safe but the difference is insane. With this pace will microwave ourselves.
