Raiders will have a quick decision to make on Derek Carr

Looks like people are already discussing the idea of jettisoning him

As for McDaniels, I know he's only in his first year and I posted that Davis may not have the cash on hand to pay him, but I'll be really shocked if he's their coach next season.

I think, for me even though I stated earlier I wanted them both out, keep McDaniels and give him another year but as for Carr he has to go. And I hate to say that but seriously we can't keep making excuses.

It may seem unfair, but then why have divisions if winning it doesn't matter?

Winning does matter, and there could be teams with better records left out.

Some leagues maintain geographic divisions to preserve rivalries, but use overall records for playoff seeding.

As much as I dislike the teams in the NFC East, would anyone rather see the NFC South winner back in by virtue of winning their division, and finishing below .500, as opposed to the Giants, Commanders, or Seahawks, who will be left out? Or, on the outside chance, the Lions or Packers?

And with two games yet to play, there is a lot of talk about the division winners throttling down and resting their starters to prevent injury, in meaningless to them games. Does that benefit the fans?

There are different ways to do it, and the NFL has theirs, but that doesn't preclude considering the alternatives.

Heck, even college football, which has as liberal of a post-season as there is, and needs all the bodies it can get given the ridiculous number of bowl games, has stiffened up and requires a six-win season and minimum .500 record.

Better is a bit subjective. With the expanded playoffs, the top 7 teams are in, and just looking at the records now. The 7th seed has a record of 8 - 7. Not really a great record. The NFC is a bit less exciting with Washington firmly at .500 and having the 7th seed. I don't see better teams in the NFL NOT making the playoffs.

This happens every year, if home field is already locked up, and/or their spot they'll start pulling their stars to avoid injury.

I think its a bad idea, to have a team miss the playoffs if they win their division, even if that team is at (or below) .500.

Bowl games are not play off games, and college football playoffs, is messed up, I would not use them as a good example. In the years of having the playoffs in college, many undefeated teams were not picked for the playoffs, or to vie for the national championship, in leu of a one or two loss team from SEC, or Big 10.

I don't understand why the Colts are AFC South while the Bengals are AFC North. Indianapolis is over 20 miles further north than Cincinnati.🤔 And the Bengals were part of the old AFC Central with the Houston Oilers. Colts should have been placed in the AFC North🤨 and the Bengals in the AFC South. This would have preserved the old AFC Central rivalry between the Bengals and Titans/Oilers and between Cincinnati and Houston.

Well they have a pretty intense in-state rivalry with the Cleveland Browns and a fairly intense one with the Pittsburgh Steelers so I'm sure the NFL didn't want to take that away.

Same for the NFC East which includes the Dallas Cowboys ... and 3 teams from the east coast. lol.

It's simply historic rivalries that they didn't want to lose as far as I can tell.

The Colts used to be in Baltimore, MD and were in the AFC East for a long time. But once they moved and TN got the Titans (formerly the Houston Oilers) they had to manufacture a division.

Sorry if my tone is condescending I don't mean to be and I've no idea how strong your NFL knowledge is... but I am agreed sometimes the alignment is baffling.

Hackett is gone. Thought they'd at least wait until the end of the season.
I can't say that I'm surprised but yeah I thought at this point in the season, they would have waited.

I think the blow loss by the rams was the final straw. 3 INTs by Wilson though are not Hackett's fault, yet you can't fire him given his contract soo.

That contract will end up being one of the worst sports disasters ever. Huge money AND they lose a top 3 draft pick. What's up with Russell? Was he the beneficiary of the Seahawks talent and Pete Carroll? Is Denver's talent really that bad? Was Russell never that good? Or does he have the yips?

Report: NFL will review Mac Jones’s ‘dirty’ hit on Eli Apple
As I said earlier, this isn't the first questionable hit by Jones, but now the NFL are taking a look
Honestly it looked like Jones tripped in the one bad video that I saw. I couldn’t figure out what football reason there would be for Mac Jones to intentionally trip some 10 yards behind the play. Unless it was Jones attempting payback for something then he would deserve a suspension.

The problem isn't just Jones (QBs don't know how to tackle, so they do cheap atuff like that), it's leaguewide - even D players don't know hoew to tackle anymore. They think diving at the feet of a guy is a tackle. It isn't. We are seeing more and more guys hurdling over these weak attempts to tackle.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa back in concussion protocol
This can't be good, for lots of reasons. First, there doesn't seem to be one hit that might have caused this. Second, those two concussions in quick succession is probably the issue. Third, they're fighting for that last spot and it looks like he may miss next week. Finally, he's living up to his rep of being injury prone.

I feel bad for him, and this is third concussion in a matter months? That's not a good thing for his brain health, both short and long term.

ESPN showed the suspected hit of the head on the ground during a QB knockdown.

I think Wilson purposefully tanked this year. In the first game of the season, Hackett decided to try a 64 yard field goal instead of letting his $250 million QB try to convert a 4th and 5. Wilson got pissed and worked the season trying to get Hackett fired.

So Hackett is gone, and the Broncos are saddled with a boat anchor named Russell Wilson. We can’t get rid of him for at least the next 2 years as the dead cap hit would absolutely crush the Broncos.

In 13 games this year, Wilson has 12 TDs and 9 INTs. He is laughed all the way to the bank and I’m sure is enjoying the fact that Hackett is no longer in Denver. Meanwhile the Seahawks are going to get a top 5 pick for a washed up deadbeat QB.

Wilson is forever dead to me. I hope he somehow never takes another snap for Denver.

I don't know about that. I don't see a player tank (and tarnish his legacy) with a bad year like this. If he did that, yeah, he got Hackett fired. But everyone thinks he sucks now. I don't see that as a thing.

I finally saw a video - the story, I linked too didn't seem to have it (at least when I looked), but my local news station was showing the video and yeah you could see his head bounce off the turf.

Obviously, I'm not doctor, but I thought I heard somewhere that have one or two concussions you actually have a brain injury in such a way, that its a lot easier to get a concussion moving forward. The medical profession came out guns ablazing when he got that second concussion a week after he wasn't even able to walk off the field but they kept him in the game.

I'm hoping this doesn't come back to haunt him, not just in his professional career but his life - you only get one brain.

Teams tank, for draft picks. I don't see one player stain his reputation so horribly. I'm not saying Wilson isn't a prima donna who got all butt hurt regarding that long field goal, but I don't think he would have purposely played bad the subsequent games.

As it stands now, everyone is regretting his arrival to Denver, and the contract he signed. Things certainly can turn around for him, but three INTs this past sunday was just ugly.

I think he, Tua, is going to have some very serious issues go forward. So much so I think it may shorten his career.
