Yep, I'm hearing the same thing, my local news station mentioned that its going to be cancelled.

Funny thing is, they are talking about what we had thought of over the past couple of days: adding a team to both conferences to even that out and have the top 2 teams get the bye. That would be a really good outcome, but give Pittsburgh the advantage. Interesting scenario; for me, not about how the teams play or anything, but how the league negotiates their way through the situation.

BL.

Just AN idea.

Just scrap week 17 results for the entire league. Determine playoff seeding after week 18 is finished.

I like this idea... Might actually be the way to go... Unless there are implications within certain divisions that the two games mean that much to the number one seed or who might make it into the playoffs.

But I like the idea.

Teams that moved up into a wild card spot (read patriots) last week will most likely not be open to such a move. While I get your point, its punishing the entire league. I think just cancelling the buff/cincy game is the least disruptive

Ah I just saw they might go by winning %. Hurts the Bills pretty severely, because KC has to lose for them to get HFA, but I don't know if they care all that much about that right now.

@maflynn also no game tonight right since we get the 2 Saturday games this week?

Last week of regular season, so yeah, they'll be spreading it out across saturday and sunday.

I just looked at the schedule, looks like there's no thursday night game

Now, no. But they probably will come late January when they are traveling to KC for the AFC Championship.

Really the best way to make that fair is play the game on a neutral field. Indianapolis is about halfway between the two and is a dome. Assuming it is the Bills/Chiefs. Lots of good teams in the AFC and the Bengals, Ravens or Chargers could beat either the Bills or Chiefs in the Divisional round. So no guarantees.

But the biggest advantage of the #1 is needing only two wins to get to the Suoer Bowl, instead of 3. A neutral field doesn't screw the Bills less. And Baltimore gets screwed too over the division title with Cinci. Bascially, cancelling the game takes the Bills "controlling their own destiny" out of their hands and gives it to the Chiefs (no way the Chiefs lose to the Raiders).

Dump the Pro Bowl, move the playoffs a week, and create a "week 19" tio finish that game. The other teams get a free rest week, but that's the least damaging.

Because of the canceled game, the league's owners will vote Friday on scenarios approved by the competition committee Thursday that involve a neutral site for an AFC Championship Game. Those are dependent on Week 18 outcomes:

• If Buffalo and Kansas City both win or tie, a Bills-Chiefs championship game will be at a neutral site.

• If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Baltimore wins or ties, a Bills-Chiefs championship game will be at a neutral site.

• If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati wins, a Bills or Bengals vs. Chiefs championship game will be at a neutral site.

The potential neutral sites have not yet been determined. The seeds will hold up throughout the playoffs.

If Buffalo and Kansas City both win this weekend, the Chiefs will get the bye. If Buffalo wins and Kansas City loses, the Bills will be the No. 1 seed and get the bye, and no neutral sites would come into play.

If the Baltimore Ravens win and are matched against Cincinnati in an AFC wild-card game, the site will be determined by a coin flip. If Cincinnati wins or if the two teams are not matched against each other after a potential Ravens win, regular scheduling procedures will go into effect.

I thought they’d just schedule a makeup game for the Bills v Bengals at some point. Guess it’s too much hassle this close to the end of the season but the other alternatives are just as bad.

There have been occasions where there hasn't been a bye week. Something about how the calendar falls. So it would not be unprecedented.
I think it was just a trial balloon. They didn't like it. It's not coming back because of what day of the week the month starts or ends, but might come back in extraordinary circumstances. However, the NFL has announced that the Bills vs. Bengals game will not be played. Edit: Oh, there was another page…

It seems like Cincy is not happy with how the seeding will be determined - especially since they were leading the game. I think they would have preferred to make up the game.

Well, yeah, leading, but 7-3 early in the first quarter.

Oh, I know but you know how that goes - they're complaining that they were winning and were cheated out of the win.

They won't say as much, but low level complaining about not making up the game sure

It sucks all around in football terms for both teams.

It's by far an unprecedented situation. And I don't know of any answer that's "correct". Any answer punishes the two teams in some capacity.
