Ducks escaped a L yesterday
Ducks escaped an L yesterday despite having MULTIPLE key players out w injuries, biased ref-ing AND commentators (I almost had to mute the sound) and horrific weather. As posted above, I was doubtful but we did it (even if I had to hide my eyes during the last five minutes of the game). Go DUCKS! And all the Duck fans have Sappington (the kicker) on a mighty high pedestal this morning! :D

Did anyone see what USC pulled against Northwestern?

USC changed the uniform number of one of their backup QBs to 80 to match that of their punter. USC is one of a handful of teams that do not have the players' names on the jerseys. The Trojans then inserted said backup QB on a 4th down play, positioned as if he was going to punt the ball. Instead, he threw a pass that was completed for a 1st down.

USC complied with the letter of the law as far as notifying the opponent of players and their numbers by the deadline. But this was clearly an effort to deceive that I feel would not comply with any conference's or the NCAA's spirit of sportsmanship. I would not be opposed to either or both of those entities leveling sanctions against USC for unsportsmanlike manipulation of their roster of uniform numbers. Rather than being proud that their scheme worked, the coaches who cooked up this ruse should be embarrassed and ashamed.

To guard against such shenanigans in the future, the rules about uniform numbers and reporting of same should be clarified. There should be a prohibition on duplicating the number worn by at least the QB and punter, and someone smarter than I could determine other key positions that should also be on the restricted list.

P.S. I also noticed that Indiana's no. 1 QB and their place kicker wear the same number. But, their names are different.

Looks like the Big Ten agrees:

So it was not only unsportsmanlike conduct by the coaches, but also violated the letter of the law after all. The first reporting of the play indicated that it was technically legal. Not so! Now the refs should be embarrassed, and the coaches doubly so.

But in the refs' defense, how are they supposed to know it's two different players if they both look the same in uniform? Seems to me that the NCAA is going to have to require teams to have player names on the jerseys, tradition or no tradition, since you obviously can't count on coaches having ethics.

So ESPN is reporting that Kelly has rejected LSU's settlement offer. I guess they offered him a lump sum payment of 25 million and the removal of the mitigation language, i.e., the amount decreases if he finds another job. That offer was sweetened to 30 million.

Seems like Kelly wants to make it as painful as possible to LSU.

...... commentators (I almost had to mute the sound). .....
Keith Hernandez, ex-baseball player now a color commentator SNY stated in his 2019 autobio:
" I get home, place keys on clip, pet cat, get a snack, beverage, turn on the game
and mute the sound, these announcers have nothing important to say!"

don't feel bad...I wish I could turn off the volume.

I was watching one game, forget what, and he was talking over the referee regarding some review. He was talking nonsense, that had nothing to do with the play, the game. Pet peeve of mine - shut up when the officials are talking.

Everyone is trying to be the next Madden, no one cares about your stories, and anecdotes, just call the game.

Keith might be the last human with a microphone to be verbally disappointed by a bad 'bone-head" play.
"what's he thinking of ......the play goes to first, get that out!"
is up there with catch phrases like "going..... going gone!"
and I think that incident, the EP or person in the control probably kept his mic on.
SNY does run a tight, well produced ship while broadcasting the NY Mets which hopefully gets another year.

we all love when Gary Keith Ron go into depth over a ride home, playing years ago or
one story:
in Pittsburgh one needs to walk from the stadium, no cars, taxis buses etc.
so in 2017, Keith is waling with other humans after a game.
he receives a nudge on the shoulder, then another....another
he turns around sees all the people no one looks guilty,
so he walks get nudges again.
then smiling behind him is Jake deGrom's dad.
that event is all I remember from that year

my neighbor was upset over FOX announcer,
(forgot his name) sat morning during the last minutes of the Indiana-Penn st game.
sne he was screaming over some plays during the drive.

I guess we have certain tolerances as I refrain from watching sports all together
due to bad, lazy or "overselling that sport" production.

Yes, I saw some of that game as well, and now that you mentioned it, the dude was wicked animated, both when Indiana was doing something and when Penn St. He wasn't playing favorites, lol

The LSU/Kelly situation is getting juicer
Per ESPN Brian Kelly lawsuit: LSU claiming it has not 'formally terminated' coach

In a legal filing against LSU's board of supervisors, Brian Kelly's attorneys say LSU has taken the position that it has not "formally terminated" Kelly as the Tigers' football coach.

The school, according to the petition for declaratory judgment, is now seeking to fire Kelly "for cause" and potentially avoid paying a full buyout of nearly $54 million. The filing claims that LSU informed Kelly's representatives of this position Monday.

This seems laughable by the school, because there's such a body of evidence showing they fired him, now they're trying to say he wasn't fire - yet but will be for cause.

Here's the thing though, this has turned into a circus, what top ranked coaching candidate wants to go there?
