Thoughts on Kiffin leaving. At first I was all self righteous about a coach abandoning a team during their championship run, just before the playoffs, but then thinking about it and gaining some perspective here's my $.02
If colleges can fire coaches mid-season for poor performance, why shouldn’t coaches have the same ability to leave mid-season for better opportunities? If bad performance is considered a valid reason for a school to make a mid-season change, then shouldn’t good performance be a valid reason for a coach to move on?
We’re now in a world where it’s normal for student-athletes to skip bowl games and for schools to fire coaches before the season ends. If that’s acceptable, then coaches deserve the same flexibility. It’s a messy system, and with NIL, the transfer portal, and a culture of instant gratification, school loyalty is disappearing. Ultimately, I think this is hurting college football.
There I said it, and now I'll get off my soap box.
