Anybody know if the Apple remote works with the 24" Apple LED display (with MBP connected and running in 'clam shell' mode)?

Yep, the remote works fine in clamshell mode, that's how I use my setup.

What about the mighty mouse...does pressing the track ball still bring up the weather and calculator widgets, etc.?

I'm trying to find a reason NOT to go with a MBP/LED monitor setup lol. I'm guessing that pushing the "eject" button on the wireless keyboard doesn't work the same way on the macbook and eject the CD/DVD from the laptop

Not that it's a big deal or anything but what doesn't a setup like this have over an iMac?

The mighty mouse will bring up whatever you want it to regardless of the the mode your in (clamshell vs. dual display). Pressing the eject button on a wireless keyboard works the same way it would if you pressed the internal keyboard.

You go for a setup like this for portability and maybe? energy savings? but mostly portability and having one computer for home/office and the go. Apple knew that laptops are selling more for this reason and having it work as a desktop equivalent is one of the reasons they put the "clamshell mode" in the first place, especially when driving the 30" monitors which look kind of silly with a little 15" hanging off the side.

nothing special, I've changed it slightly instead of keeping the MB in the side cabinet I'm using a Book Arc and have it positioned just behind the screen, Will post an updated pic when I get home

Maybe it is the angle, but it doesn't look like your legs would even fit between the sides. :p

New 24" LED ACD. It's actually replacing a new 30" ACD which will be going back to the local Apple Store shortly. Also ordered a USB and Mini Display extension cable so I can also plug my MBP in at the same time and still have the connectors reach my Mac Pro.

As nice as the real estate on the 30" is, it did turn out to be a bit overkill for my needs. Plus, the 30" I got had a minor issue where the left side of the screen was just a tad redder than the right. Color accuracy isn't critical for me, but once I noticed the color shift, I couldn't ignore it anymore.

At any rate, I'm digging the LED ACD. iSight and MagSafe are a nice touch, and the screen is much more uniform than the 30" ACD in terms of brightness and color to me.

The 24" really looks terrible at the Apple Store due to the lighting there. At home, there's virtually no glare, and the display looks orders of magnitude better.

EDIT: I noticed a bunch of you have soft LED lighting behind your setups. Where can I get my hands on some of those?

Thank you very much for answering my question! So is there any advantage of having a desktop (iMac) over a laptop/monitor display? It just sounds like a great combination - best of both worlds. Can anyone think of any downsides...anything you don't like? :apple:

cost, its as simple as that. otherwise MBP + ACD is way better in all respects (though that will change after the imac upgrades). right now you get a much better display + portability & the same power. it's a pretty genius idea apple has, though at the moment, its not worth $3000 for the setup imo. if the imac disappoints though, when they roll out new MBPs ill be all over that.

Nice setup! I loves me my ACD, too, for the same reasons you do. Plus since I've got a MBP, it's a no-brainer. As a side note, the Mac Pro is definitely one of the best looking towers out there. :)

Found this thread a bit late - I just got my LED Cinema 24, and thought I'd post up a picture of my setup.

I love these setups. I so want a 24" Cinema Display, but I just can't bring myself to get one. If I do, I'll go the refurb. route.

Awesome

Awesome pics guys. Keep them coming. I really want that display, it is just so hard to justify the cost. Plus I have to convince my wife to allow me to buy it - jeez that is a task worthy of the almighty. Anyway, I love the pics - hope to share my own someday.

Here's my setup:

2.0GHz MacBook w/ 160GB HDD and 4GB RAM
24" LED ACD
Bose Companion 5 Speakers
Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse
500GB Time Capsule
16GB 1st Gen. iPhone
Shure SE210 Earphones
1GB iPod Shuffle

Other:
Alpine White BMW M3 Coupé
Pewter Grey Audi R8
Crystal Blue BMW 135i Coupé

How do you like the Companion 5?

I'm going to say from all the ones posted you have the nicest-looking setup; very neat and a nice contrast of colours or something... I don't know what it is; it just looks amazing!

I like this as well. Very nice combination of rustic and modern.
