Those with yellow tint in recently built?

I am wondering if any you on this forum with recently built models still have the grey bar or shadow horizontally running along the bottom of the screens that are being delivered or replaced?

Hi everyone... Please, let me know what do you think about my panel (that thing with percentages would be nice :p ) ...

This is my 2nd iMac (both Week 13) and my first experience with Mac's and I'm really disappointed. I bought this iMac mainly for one reason, the quality of the monitor... And this yellow tint is really really pissing me off. Most people wouldn't care or see the problem, but I can clearly see it when using Lightroom/Photoshop or surfing in forums, etc... A hardware (one of those devices) calibration will change anything?

What should I do, ask for the refund or try another iMac? Any new iMac version for the recent future?

PS: On my Nikon D300 I'm using sRGB and I see a different tones of the photos in the computer (sRGB also). A more "greenish" tone, or something =P

Hi everyone... Please, let me know what do you think about my panel.......

This panel is reasonably good, I think, but I am not sure about the photo-editing applications.

The lighter one has ~1% blue missing in the left quarter, in the right quarter and the bottom part (it could be called blue tinge in the top middle of the screen), but again, all this is in the 1% range. There are 3 localized yellow-green areas in the bottom right quadrant, where blue and red components change by ~~3-4%.

The darker one has quite visible Moire pattern and the test is more difficult, but color uniformity seem to be following the same general pattern (center top ~~1% more blue), with some nonuniformity in the bottom right part of the screen (darker parts divided by a reddish part, ~~~2%), difficult to assess.

Taken with my iPhone, 50% brightness. Model number W8014. This is actually a repaired one which received a new panel. The original was yellow but now I don't know anymore. Btw, there is some backlight bleeding in the right corner.

I had a quick look at the screen picture and first, there is a lot of RED missing in the top right corner (~12%), which shows as cyan tinge. Also bottom left corner is missing ~7% blue (shows as yellow tinge). I don't know how much of this could have come from reflections and camera.

Hi, I just bought an iMac and want to do the screen test myself, but I don't understand how did you quantify how many percent missing?! Is there some program I can use to analyze the photo of the screen I will take?

Thank you very much!

Thank you for your help, I'll stick with this one I guess.

I do it with the Photoshop and the Info and Eyedropper tools. Mind you it is all not an exact science and all three components (RGB) vary from place to place, sometimes wildly. Sometimes you have to increase contrast to notice the problem areas and then sample the original in and around these places.

To give an example, if the grey on top of the screen is RGB=141,139,142, and at the bottom of the screen is RGB=139,140,133 I'd call it ~6% blue missing. RGB numbers vary quite a lot from place to place so my ~6% means really somewhere between 4 and 9. The test is also affected by the quality of the camera, but this are (usually) of better quality, than the iMac screen.

Hope it helps.

Thank you so much, I will try to test it myself, may need some help if I cannot figure it out!

Do you have any dead pixels?

I haven't read/followed this entire thread, so I apologize if this is redundant information. I am also not including a picture of my monitor...

I just bought a 27" i7 this weekend; I found this thread and just checked it to make sure that I *didn't* have the yellow tint problem (i.e. I hadn't noticed anything myself at this point). As it happens, I could see a pretty clear difference between the top and the bottom of the screen, with the bottom 1/3 being more yellow. This was in the dark, so it was a pretty good environment.

I took the iMac to the genius bar today, and ended up walking away without having anything done. They did offer to replace the display, but I didn't have the 5-7 days to wait. So I just got a "note" authorizing an Apple-approved service center to replace the display and went home.

Before I left, I decided to check out the other iMacs in the store. Both of the 27" iMacs had what appeared to be more yellow at the bottom of the screen. Obviously the light in the store was pretty good, so it was not an ideal environment. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I also checked out two 21.5" iMacs and the top and the bottom looked identical.

So, my limited experience so far suggests that this could be a pandemic with the 27" iMacs.

Too hard to tell, because the photos are underexposed, have chromatic fringing all over and have moire pattern.

I have the same agreement to replace the display.

But I was also told that there was no guarantee that the replacement would improve the situation. I am still waiting for the next OS update, which I agreed to do before changing parts on the machine. I have also been trying to discover if recent display replacements still exhibit the grey horizontal bar along the bottom of the screen, especially visible with white or grey backgrounds.

I had a quick look at picture #2 and it has ~2% blue missing in the bottom, left of the center line of the screen. also there is ~4% blue missing in the center of the right half of the screen, compared to nice neutral of the left. Other pictures were much harder to asses, due to the moire pattern, but they look better.

I'll be away for 3 weeks, sorry guys.

Just thought I would post my experience.

I bought a week 18 27 inch i7 imac a few days ago and noticed right off the bat that the bottom left corner was yellow with 2 light gray lines across the bottom of the screen. I did the tests and seen that it was the whole bottom the left was just worse.

So today I took it back to the apple store and switched it out they were cool about it and let me look at the new one before I took it. The new one has no yellow as far as I can tell and the gray bars are barely noticeable now so I'm going to keep it. The new one is a week 22

That's good news. Do you have any dead pixels at all though?

no dead pixels that i can see but I haven't tested it. the more I look at this screen I think it is a little bit yellow too. It has the gray shadowy band across the bottom for sure. Maybe one of you guys can look at it for me I'll post some pics

Going to contact Apple about this and see if I can't get a replacement, or at the very least a screen repair.

Hi Everyone

Been having a real good read of this thread. I bought a 27" i5 iMac last night from John Lewis in the UK - week 09 (March)

When i got it home i did notice the slightly warm bottom half of the screen, also it seems to be worse on the far right of the screen.

However i dont think its as bad as some folks on here (ill post photos later tonight for you all to view)

Cant really decide what to do, as most people are going through 3+ and still having problems. I have 28days return policy with John Lewis so i might see how i get on, but i defo notice it, BUT i dont know if im being abit to anal about it.

Ill post some photos for people later on, see what you all think ...

Has anyone noticed a change since the Mac OS update from this morning?

cheers
nick

here is a photo taken from my iPhone. Looking at this you can really see the yellow tint.

i think ill be taking this back tomorrow and changing.

Replace or refund + mini + display?

27" i5 Week 24, US Made. Had yellowing on bottom, faint gray bar-smudge.

Apple immediately offered refund or replacement. I don't want to spend the next month sorting through machines hoping for an acceptable one.

Are there screens with uniform color out there? Or should I give up on the iMac and get a new mini?

And is Apple's 24" display free of these problems?
