It only took me around 3 months to get my hands on it. I purchased it online from an unreliable company, however they stuck by their word and fixed me my own configuration of a wonderful machine, oh and I certainly did not forget to include Apple care.

I ordered directly from Apple. Maybe I should have done it your way. ;-) Although you'd think it would be better the other way around. Just curious, what was the third party company?

Not noticing anything bad on mine so am extremely happy only had it about 4 weeks so hope all stays well too :D

some of you guys have had really bad luck 8 iMacs?!?!? I'd be a little more than annoyed if that happened i would say give up but i think if it was me i would be determined to get one without any deficiencies..

Mike

They won't send you a new one but they'll still honor the warranty, right? Maybe some internal connector just got unseated thanks to fedex, & maybe it's an easy fix?

Incidentally what does a good screen look like -- is there absolute no hint of yellow, even with the screen at 40% brightness?

The local Apple "genius" informed me that there is most likely Hard Drive damage and who knows what else. Why would I keep a machine BRAND NEW that is battered and already showing signs of defect ? For my $2000 PLUS I deserve a brand new iMac, UNDAMAGED and un-abused with a clear uniform screen. Why would I go the route of having to have a one day old machine repaired?

Ya, my hard drive failed in two weeks, and they had to replace it. But it's been fine ever since, despite the already discussed yellow tinge on the screen. These are the worst versions of iMac designs ever. They look nice in theory, but in actual use, they suck.

are those new iMac owners who do Not experience problems just not discriminating, willing to live with less than perfection or what? I am very careful with my purchases, read forums first...so far, I am actually turned off from buying an iMac. MacRumors suggests waiting on the iMac...mid-cycle. Maybe the next go around will be better.

This isn't a new issue.

This problem deserves the attention: ongoing for 2 years ! I'm wondering what consumer rights group or attorney i can approach with this. Especially since Apple online is refusing to work with me anymore.

Ask for your money back and call it a day. Maybe next refresh will be better as Apple has taken on Samsung as a screen supplier.

A class action lawsuit was already filed and was tossed out by a judge. I don't really understand why. Probably because Apple said they were working on a way to fix the issue, which they never did.

They switched LCD suppliers from LG to Samsung for iPads, but that could also mean that their iMac displays might also be replaced by Samsung screens.

As Apple give refunds (no questions asked ) to anyone who is not happy, the consumer is fully protected and thus legal requirements are met in most jurisdictions so no great basis for legal action, even in the ridiculous US legal environment.

Also perfect screen here.

Gongrats. Where did you order your iMac ? I'm wondering if this is an issue related to geographic locations ? ( Europe, US, Asia ) . Perhaps it doesn't matter from where you order your iMac but still I wonder

Thanks. I ordered mine from the Apple Store online (DK). Also, it was assembled in China.

Speaking strictly from a right or wrong standpoint, i was promised by Apple customer service a new non-yellow screen working imac regardless... And they broke their promise. Two of the last three had terrible screen uniformity, mostly blue tinged... And the third was treated like a football by fedex and wasn't working properly. So Apple's creative response is to act like computer nazi's - "No more imac for you"?

Just curious.. How do they keep you from buying another iMac?

I am typing this on my 2011 iMac 27" that i just unpacked 2 min ago. from the second i started it up, the white startup screen with the small apple logo was half yellow on the bottom. i just checked it again with the test site / photo on the first post of this topic and indeed it's very yellow. i went through this in 2009 where i had 2 replacements and after the third computer, i gave up.

i'm not really sure if i want to go through that again. i do a lot of photography and the glossy in my new home office lighting setup is not that bad, so i'd really like this to work out! it really is the perfect computer if it came with a good display.

also SORRY for my bad punctuation and typing, but apple sent me the spanish keyboard which types very differently!
