Can anyone tell me in a general sense how easy it is to detect this problem in a day to day usage? Because I can't tell if I have the problem or if my brain/eyes are playing a trick on me attempting to convince me that I have the problem. If I have the problem it's hardly noticeable. If I don't, then my eyes are doing as I described above. The pictures posted in the various posts aren't enough for me to determine if I have the problem.

Good....lord. People like you drive me crazy. Don't worry about if it's a non-issue to you!

This monday, first of february, I recieved my brand new 27" iMac. It has a serial no. from week 51, and it clearly shows the yellow tint issue. The Dutch Apple support offered me to call me back in three weeks, so that I can bring it to a repair center where they will fix it.

I'm very annoyed by the fact that I paid a lot for this product, it is broken, and they don't offer a new one. Instead they will repair it. Also I don't like the fact that it is from week 51, so somebody else probably already returned my machine.

What do you guys think? Have apple replace it / get my money back & order a new one, or just wait three weeks and repair the thing?

If you don't mind waiting the long wait again, I would give it back to Apple and reorder a new one, as I would not want to have it repaired if I were you. Actually if you tell Apple that you will be returning it and getting a refund and then you tell them that you will be ordering another one shortly after that , they may just say, ok, ok, we will just swap it out for you. TMO.

Do not wait 3 weeks!!
I called them Monday for replacement number 3 (machine 4) and they also tried to sell me the 3 weeks wait. (Dutch) If you do... the 14 days return policy is overboard and you are forced to go for a repair.
I didn’t bite and got my replacement. But they mentioned that it would be the last one... If it happens again I’ll get my money back.
Hopefully that's not the case... If so I’ll reorder in a few months..

I have a batch 50...yellow starts to be noticable on the bottom about 3 inches from the left. with a gradual fade from top to bottom.

I see now on their store website the wait is only 2 weeks now. Wonder if that means anything? Could they have fixed something? Has anyone got a firmware update at all for the yellowing? Just thought I would ask.

I was just reading Apple Insider and they said that Apple released a 2nd firmware fix on Monday Feb 1, 2010 regarding the flickering and yellow tinting of the screens on the iMacs. Maybe if you have not checked for software updates lately those with the new iMacs should do this and see if it fixes their problem.

If it does fix your yellowing tint problem, please let us know so we can sleep at nights now. ;)

Only fixes flicker, no mention in release notes regarding yellow tinting (and wouldn't expect it to fix this issue).

You're lucky if you cannot notice it in every day-to-day use. I wouldn't go looking for a problem if you cannot immidiately notice it.

That being said, for the cost, why shouldn't you expect a PERFECt screen? Your call, but looking may cause you more issues...

Thanks for the replies.

What do you think about sending a week 51 version to me on the first of february? I have the idea it was returned by somebody else - why did I have to wait for 4 weeks when I recieved a week 51 version?

Or is it the usual way how apple works...

Hi everybody.
I've got the Imac I7 week 51. The test showed yellow tint almost throughout the bottom part of the screen. No Flicker though.

Actually, I never really noticed before, but now after the test I notice. I hope it could be fixed like its mentioned here.

Best of luck guys & girls. We are not alone here, and massive change only takes place whenever interest gather and organize, like its been done throughout history. Of course I'm referring to political issues here, but the same goes for this. Take say the timecapsule issues. Those were fixed for a lot of people, including me, because of the site http://timecapsuledead.org/

It can only be ignored if we do nothing.

I'm with you on this, I think it's important Apple shamed into taking action rather than denying it. I am on my 2nd iMac, yellow discolouration, dead pixels and high pitched noises.

My latest machine is 2010 Week 05, why is Apple continue to make lemons?

Is there a online petition, or is there another way worldwide users can highlight this issue? Make sure for a start you report any fault to Apple.

21.5 inch with yellow tinge

A few days I send a mail to Steve Jobs about my yellow tinged 21.5 inch screen. I had a few questions about recognition the yellow tinge problem on 21.5 inch macs and about the coming fix.
Today a (of course) very kind lady called me from Ireland (I live in Europe) who offered me to swap my imac for a new one. Of course I did not accept the offer because there is no guaranty that the new one has a normal white screen. I don't get this policy. Why would someone take this offer? And why does apple make this offer.
She could not say anything about the coming fix (sotware or hardware, is still "confidential"). Also she could not say anything about the time; 15 february (stated here a few times) or wihin 3 weeks did not ring a bell to her.
She said that she would call me back next week about her offer (they still don't get it!). I said that I would apreciate that she would call me back if she had some serious information about the coming fix.
Anyway, an email to Jobs works better than contact with my local apple representaive, who gave me no information or what soever. Wait and see...

Hey.

Have talked with another person. He have now had 4 iMacs. None with yellow thingie, but everyone with 1 stuck pixel (red). So he is now getting the 5th one.

I am just happy if i get a yellow free display :)

Sorry I Guess I misread it. My bad.

so i am on my 2nd 21.5 and its still yellow grrrrrrrr. but i was doing some test and come to find out my i sight also has some dead pixels. this sucks!

Week 5 27" i7 here - definite yellow tinge across the bottom, starting about 3" in from the left - no flickering <yet> - going to call Apple to see what my options are.

I just called them and they didn't offer me this but asked me to wait til Apple provides the solid fix, which is replacing its panel, in few weeks.

What should I do?

I'm with you. I waited a month for my week 5 27" i7, having ordered it 12/30 and getting it 2/1, and see that it has the yellow tinge. I called Apple today - I've been put on the waiting list for the LCD replacement, but I don't know what to do. Part of me feels that if I do a swap now, I may get a machine with more problems than I have now, and if I wait, I'll have to lug it to the local Apple store and be out of a computer God-knows-how-long while they swap the panel.
