That's after I calibrated my screen to the best of my abilities. There's still a considerable lack of yellow on the top part of the screen, while all 4 quadrants show a lot of cyan. I'll take the oversaturation of cyan to be an aberration of the camera's picture, but that still doesn't change the fact of the top having more of an absence of yellow than the bottom, and the bottom being more saturated on average than the top.

Do yourself the favor at this point, if you can deal with it then install your softwares and get on with life. Is it really worth your time to put so much "time" into all of this? Now, if you can't deal with it, just take it back. I got my iMac i7 delivered this morning, it looks pretty damn great TO ME, but that's all that matters, not someone else's opinion here, I need to actually USE my computer, I certainly hope you do too. :)

straight out of the Apple customer 'care' playbook. .....

I thought your 27 inch iMac came in weeks ago? Is this your second one?

I do live with it though, and I'm not bothered by it at all. I'm not on here complaining about screen problems and announcing to everybody that I got my screen replaced at the apple store 5 times.

I'm just showing those pictures to people as an example of how a screen that appears yellow really isn't yellow.

I am posting these.
Just got my Week 8 iMac 27 i7 several days ago.

Noticed faint yellowing the second I booted up, I also read the forums for over a month straight so I couldn't help it.

I showed this to two "non-computer" people , and they saw yellowing when I showed the test image in my browser, the center of the screen in particular and right half.

I can see faint yellow but now I don't know about these in-store replacements?
It's not bothering me that much, but I am pissed that I am now part of the statistic.
I should have known, but I want to show the rest of the world what I see.

Thoughts?

I have returned 4 yellow tinged 21.5 iMacs. My son has returned 5 yellow tinged 21.5 iMacs. All nine iMac also had other issues such as noisy screen, noisy hard drives, faulty super drive and whistling sound....

I made the decision, two weeks ago, to wait for the next redesign and in the meantime I share a crappy Toshiba laptop (Window 7) with my wife.

My son on the other hand decided that he would give it another shot.

After many calls to Apple care, my son's case was finally elevated to the highest level and so he ordered his sixth 21.5 iMac (Basic cheap entry level) through the Apple Canada Executive Relations representative that is handling his case. The order was placed on the 11th of February and it was assembled in Rancho Cordova, CA. He received it yesterday February 23, 2010.

This latest (number 6) iMac also has a yellow tinged screen plus the hard drive is so noisy, you can hear it clear across the room.

Earlier today, my son contacted the Executive Relations representative and reported the issues he had with this latest iMac. The representative told him that the issues would have to get acknowledged, as being true, by a genius at the Apple store in Ottawa and that she was not going to pursue the matter any further until she got an "acknowledgment number" from the genius.

Well, earlier this evening, my son re-boxed the iMac and went to see the genius at the the Apple Store in Ottawa (It's only a 30 minute drive from where he lives).
Sure enough, the Genius took the iMac in the back room and came out after ten minutes and told my son that the hard drive was extremely noisy and asked him if he had noticed the yellow screen..... My son never said anything about the yellow screen and yet the Genius was asking him if he had noticed....
The genius was nice enough to re-box the iMac. Now, it's official, my son has the "Acknowledgment number" direct from the genius himself.

Tomorrow, the Executive Relations representative is getting another call....... and the saga continues.

Very, very, disappointed in the IMac product.
All this crap because last month we decided to sell our PC's and make the move to Apple.

Lesson learned...

very sorry to hear about your experience. Sounds very frustrating, but also sounds very plausible to get so many defects as I have found out now having experienced a problem.

(At certain angles I can see a distinct gray band)

I made the switch to Mac 5 years ago. I absolutely loved my PPC G5, and it still works great, except it can't handle huge HD video files, and its not as fast as I need it.

My i7 27" is beautiful, its great, but I can't ignore this yellowing and now a gray band.

(btw - can anyone comment on what they "see" in my above attachments?)

I encourage you to continue with the switch, whether it is now or later, because once you get a working machine its heavenly.

Having said that, I am still shocked there has been no Official Announcement by Apple and its almost March!

I am debating returning it, since I have 14 days , but I don't know if I want to take a risk and get a panel replaced in a store. If its even worse I will be kicking myself, and I absolutely don't want to be the guy that posts "I'm on my third, fourth, fifth iMac"
because I have already become that guy who is posting about his brand new yellowish tinted screen.

Its so slight, but I am noticing it more and more with each view.
I'm going to try and ignore it until tomorrow. Then I'll talk to my "Authorized Reseller/Repair Center"

Kabir8,

Very frustrating. I am looking forward to owning a Mac someday soon and it will probably be a 27" i5.

I could never go back to a PC.

I'm so p!$$ed off at Apple that I just sent an e-mail to Steve Jobs. I related my experience with trying to get a half decent iMac.

I figured that with the luck we've had at picking out the defective iMacs that I will be lucky enough to get an answer from him.... or someone in his office.

Yep, my screen went out. Got a replacement. Interesting, do you really keep track with everything everyone does here? You should find other hobbies. :p

Spoke with Apple again today, one of the supervisor guys who can apparently authorise a refund/replacement.

He was very clear, that the new screens they have in will fix any and all screen-related issues. After a screen is replaced, if the problem is still apparent, they will consider options for you then, but they don't have machines available as replacements.

So, iMac is going down tomorrow and I should get it back from the repair agents in about a week or so.

Haha, trust me, I have plenty of hobbies, which is why I spend less time on here then you do. :p

No, I don't keep track of everything everybody says, I just have an exceptional memory. :p I remember you being concerned about whether or not your screen had the yellow tint or not. Glad your happy with the new one! And yes, the most important thing is whether or not YOU are happy with the product, not what people here vote on you to do. In all seriousness, good advice! If the yellow tint doesn't bother you, more power to you!

This is my fourth iMac. Actually this one is even worse than the others.
S/N: W8008...
I bumped the saturation of the second pic, just for the case you dont see the yellow tinge.

I m aiming for a refund now. Its getting pointless and I m tired of the exchange game. I m gonna get a Dell U2711 and build a i7 PC.

Just got mine 27

I just received my 27" how can you tell what week it is mine has W8008 at the beginning of the serial number. It seems fine now, I have it next to my 2008 24" and it looks whiter, but will keep an eye on it. I use mine for photography so I should notice.
Do they know why its doing this yet??
Oops just saw the above serial number what week was yours and how long did it take you to see the problem?

I think its a Week 7. It arrived today and I noticed it immediately.
I took a picture just to be sure...

Mine arrived today as well and I'm not seeing it, yours is really noticeable. I'm going to keep it on and keep a close eye on it.

Can you please take a photo and post it here?
Close the blinds, turn all lights off, adjust the iMac so that he is 100 % vertical and take a picture.

I m starting to doubt that there are iMacs without the yellow tinting...

Enjoy windows....

hate to say it, but your's looks fine... until you purposefully manged it by upping the saturation...

You up the sat on any image it starts to look like *****.

Please see these shots below of my yellow gradation / gray banding.

Everyone I asked has noticed it.

(These are at an angle showing the gray bands same shot changed curves)

To me it looks like there was a crumple on the right side of the screen. The gray banding is the slight bunching up of the panel behind that results in these vertical bands. I can see its warmer just posting on these forums.

I don't know if a panel replacement is going to solve the issue, but I am leaning towards a full refund. Not sure if I should just take the time to replace it and THEN refund if it still has issues, or if I should just refund it. I don't some new LCD panel to emerge in a couple months leaving all of the problematic LG's wallowing in the dust.

got a week 7 27" i5 from Amazon yesterday, so being a lemming, I got out my Sony A900 and shot RAW (blurred to reduce moire). the picture on the left is purposely over-saturated, the one on the right is closer to how I actually see things (OK, less blurry than that ;)). If I looked at gray fields all day I might notice it, but even editing pictures (I do a lot of photography), I probably wouldn't. I sure didn't when test editing on it yesterday using Lightroom and Lightzone.

after taking shots of the i5 iMac and subsequently running like a moron around the house taking pictures of all the LCD monitors we have, I've come to one conclusion: LCD's as a rule still suck and are not uniform.

My Dell blooms, my wife's 20" iMac is way darker on the bottom half and has uneven spots, even my somewhat pricey from several years ago NEC has dark vertical stripes. They all have issues. Whoever said that this huge iMac panel has simply made the failings of LCD technology readily apparent is right on. ("I miss CRT's..." :()

I'll have to check with my wife's friend at NEC's monitor division to see what the state of top end panels is now and what they think of all this stuff with Apple. I'm sure she has an opinion.

I'm coming to realize that all panels have some issues when pixel peeping gray rectangles (maybe the megabuck NEC, Eizo etc. that are probably hand inspected are exceptions), so one has to ask oneself, at one point does any of this really matter??

For the moment, I'll keep it. Everything else works and there are no dead pixels etc. and I've definitely seen much worse examples of color issues than mine. Not sure how Amazon would want to deal with the return anyway, though being Amazon, I'm sure they'd accommodate me.
