I got my week 09 i5 last week and am very happy with it. No yellow, no noise and no dead pixles. Some small amount of led bleed but to be expected and only noticable when the screen is totally black.

keeper:eek:

That's what I thought about mine. A few weeks later I noticed something a little off but I could live with it. A couple of weeks later it was worse and now bothersome.

Just keep looking and checking so that you are not too far away from purchase for Apple to do the right thing if there is a problem.

Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones :)

Oh for sure. I do design / photography work so I'm fairly picky with color. First sign of yellowing and I'll give Apple a call, but hopefully it wont come to that.

As soon as the new Macbook Pros are released, we'll see people exchanging their iMacs for Macbook Pros instead of replacement iMacs. Be ready for a lengthy thread entitled "Who has given up on iMac and switched to a new MBP?"

Then, a few weeks later, when the iMac is updated, we'll see "Who has given up on the new MBP and switched to the updated iMac?"

It's just the normal process here isn't it? Where very few are ever happy.

My 3rd iMac was delivered on friday as a replacement for iMac no 2. Since I have them both here, I took some photos side by side. Both are week 10 models made in China. Both @ 50% brightness, same color profile. Photos are unedited except crop/resize.

The displays have a very different feel. Left iMac (nr 2) clearly has yellow on the right side from top to bottom, iMac nr 3 (right) has a yellow tint overall.

Perhaps in looking for a solution Apple has increased the yellowness of the screen to prevent the spots from standing out? But even iMac 3 (right) seems to have an increased yellow area on the left of the middle.

I'm currently undecided on which one to keep, or returning them both.

I have a very similar situation. I have one week 7 and one week 11 imac 27. The overall color of week 11 one looks warmer than week 7 one. iSamurai said we can adjust color temperature, how to do that? I tried calibration and it did not make too much difference.

I am not an expert so I am not sure whether the color of week 7 one is too cold (the finder looks purple to me even from your picture) or the week 11 is too warm. Can somebody please take a look at this and tell us what we need to do?

Thanks,
xingstar

I think my Week 11 has The Tinge

:( Wouldn't mind a second / third / fourth opinion please?

Plus when I hooked my camera up to the USB port in my Apple wired keyboard, it crashed it.

This is my first ever mac.. so much for 'it just works' :(

Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the porridge from the first bowl. "This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed. So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl. "This porridge is too cold!" she said. Then she tasted the porridge from the third bowl... and guess what? An adult walked in the room and told Goldilocks she couldn't try any more bowls, and that she should grow up and go to bed hungry.

This goldilocks is HUNGRY FOR SOME i7 MBP!!

If you calibrate your display you should check the 'Expert mode' option. Just follow the steps, the last step will give you the option to use the 'native white point' or adjust manually: in sliding the slider to the right slightly you should be able to get a less yellow overall display.

For me it didn't work very well, because it also meant other colors (like shades of grey) are altered (they look purple).

I can't leave OS X and don't want to build a hackintosh. I think I'll get an 'entry level' Mac Pro and hope that the 24" LED cinema display does not have these problems. Now just waiting for an update to the Mac Pro.

Instaling OS X on a PC is just as easy as on a Mac. When people call it a 'Hackintosh' it is because they have literaly downloaded a hacked version of OS X. Install from the original OS X disc and you wont have a problem.

Im looking at an i7 3.3GHz, 12GB RAM, ATI 5670 1GB Graphics. 1TB drive, 128MB SSD drive, Liquid cooled, aluminium case. All for under £1500.

Now why would you want a Mac Pro????

From experience, building a hackintosh is a HUGE PITA. Even with compatible hardware (which is very limited selection), there are numerous problems. I had actually typed up a long post about those problems, but Macrumor's auto-logout ate it. Needless to say, a hackintosh is liable to have way more problems than these iMacs could ever dream of...

My forth iMac 21.5" is being sent today so will let the forum know the outcome when I receive it, probably tomorrow :)

Jeez... I've been doing more reading around the net, this is a really huge problem isn't it? Surely Apple must be losing money over this?

Let me know how you go with your replacement mate. If the replacements come in here and still have the tinge, I think I'll be switching to a MacBook for the time being until these issues are resolved.

They're sending the printer tomorrow, and as far as I know if I am refunding the 2nd machine I'll also be returning the printer and the iPod (how do you claim the rebates without the computer itself?).

Don't buy a MacBook pro now if that's what you mean; they're getting updated pretty soon. I'm stuck on my almost dead white MacBook. Everything's corrupt and I'm running on guest mode with a web browser. Can't really reformat without a 2nd computer. lol.

Wouldn't mind a second / third / fourth opinion please?

It looks yellow towards the bottom, but what's worse is the cloudiness of the grey strip -- brightness is not uniform, probably have something to do with light bleed.

OK just received my my 3rd 27" from Apple today. It came all the way from Shanghai so straight of the production line.

Guess what. It is still yellow.

That is it I have had enough I will be asking for a refund. No matter what Apple says they have not fixed this issue and I think it is appalling that they are still selling these knowing that they are defective.

It is pretty appalling. I recently received a "pre-screened" week 10 iMac to replace my week 50 yellow iMac and it was even more yellow than the week 50 unit. I think we all have to face up to the fact that, as I suspected all along, this is an inherent problem with the technology being used in this panel. Until LG develop the panels technology further and it matures then the "Ultimate Display" will often come with an additional yellow cast.

I took my week 53 core i5 back to the apple store in manchester and demanded that they give me one of the latest batch models they had just got in. Walked away with a week 8 (2010) one, got them to test it in the shop. No yellow, no back light bleed.

Got it home and realised just how bad my first one was. This one seems perfect "for now"...no backlight bleed either...

happy, at last..:apple:

Just got a week 9 replacement.

Right now there are a week 6 and week 9 in front of me.( will need to return the week 6 later)

From all the testing i can notice the yellow issue had a great improvement. You can notice the comparison of both screen the grey area of the week 9 (RH) is darker, where the week 6 is a lot lighter and tend to be yellowish.

But not the backlight bleed, this week 9 is worst than the week 6.

Overall I am satisfy with the week 9, but maybe i will give another try to get one more replacement since i notice the quality is improving, I might be ending up with a perfect one.

For those who still worrying, I think you can buy it safely now, at least it reaches 85% of perfectness.

P/S: please request if you want some more comparison, while I still have both of it.

Not only is my screen still yellow, but the band of tiny rectangles in a big smudge across the middle of the screen is still there too.

It looks fine to me. For the back-light bleeding, it seems nothing if compared to mine. I got it every corner of the screen and all are bigger than yours. I posted my screen pictures in few pages back. Page 63 I guess

Anyway, It's a keeper to me.

Tigereat,

Thanks a lot for taking a look at it for me. The more I use the iMac the less I feel the problem is. Its no where near as bad as my first one, and as long as it doesnt get worse I think I am okay with it. The bleed as you said is a lot less than some of the others posted, I guess I will hold on to it.

When that yellow starts getting in the way of looking at your photos, it just drives you nuts.

Its just hard not being picky when you spend a lot of cash! ;)

Hi,
I Just received my week 10 27" iMac i7 and it is virtually problem free. The screen is dang near perfect with no yellowing at all. There is also no grey band at the bottom of the screen. My temps for almost all operations are actually lower than my iMac 24" C2D. No scratched CD's or DVDs. The only small issue I can see is that I can hear the 1tb seagate drive in this machine. It is very slight, but I rarely hear the drive at all in my 24. I am super picky with this machine and was expecting problems. I think apple may have revamped the backlighting as I can dim this machine far more down than the earlier ones in the apple store. No matter the brightness, there is also no hum at all. I am extremely happy!

Hi all,

Thanks for this post. I just recieved my i7 today. From the test, it shows no yellow (not that I've seen). Looking at the model #, it should be week 120.

Just wandering to see if anyone has a week 120 machine and if so, any problems?

Thanks...

ok I just received my week 11 i7.

It does fail the gray bar test but the difference is pretty subtle and I don't notice it on regular images.

I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing my machine 5 times for something that might just be marginally better so I think I'm going to keep it.

Like others have said, you are obviously not going to get perfection with this model.

Thanks. I'm not sure if there is a bleed - when in full screen black it looks fine from a dead on straight angle. At angles other than straight on, the corners and sides look a little lighter, but they look consistent as I move around.. seems normal to me..?

Will have to take a picture tonight when it's dark.
