I got mine one this morning but... it doesn't work!!

I connect my imac to the Dr.bott box via belkin mini displayport to mini displayport cable, then through the original mini displayport to display port adapter that come with dr.bott.

Then hock up my hdmi to ps3 and press commend + F2. It should work but it doesn't.. nothing happen.. Do you guys have any idea of what happen? Do you have both light on for each side on the dr-bott box?

Thank you so much for any advise.

Try holding down the power button on the PS3 until you hear 2 beeps, about 5-10 seconds. See what happens. Normally this forces the PS3 to autodetect the resolution of the display hooked up to it.

I havent gotten or ordered the Dr.Bott unit but if I move my PS3 from my HDTV to a computer monitor, I have to do this everytime! Worth a try, no?

Hi, thanks so much for your quick reply. I have already change the resolution of my ps3 to 720p as I have my TV just next to me, but still want to play this on my 27" Imac..

I just wondering as there is one side of the dr.bott has red light on as we have seen one the youtube video, but does another side has light one as well? as my one doesn't light on on the other side.

Still trying...

Just tried the mini-display port with my macbook, so it doesn't work so I think is the belkin mini display port to mini display port that doesn't work. Will change it tmr and see what happen.

Oh ok, gotchya... not sure then sorry.

Here is my thought, I have my PS3 set to 720p also, since that is what my TV is. No matter what monitor I plug it into, I still have to hold down the power button to reset it. I mean its worth a try, it will only take 10 seconds.

Edit: Nevermind, I didnt see your comment above.

It might even be the mini DVI input thats broken. Heard somewhere on the forum that this a not to common problem but a problem some people have had issues with. I'm sure if you try a different cable you will know.

Can someone that has done the boot camp 3.1 update try this in windows? I am specifically talking to you, RealEvil....... I hope this helps.

Ok, just tried another miniDP cable from my friend and still no luck.

I decide to reinstall my Imac as I think it might be the system's problem. Then after 20 mins of reinstalling, hock up all the cable, commend + f2, then the ps3 screen come out.

Brilliant! but I have no idea what the problem was... maybe I use the miniDP to HDMI adapter recently that mass up the graph card?

Anyway, problem solved, and my PES2010 now showing on my IMAC 27"!!! :apple:

Fantastic:D

Mine came last night and I had a lot of problems with setup. Turned out the HDMI cable they supplied doesn't work. But I'm not sending it back for the sake of that when I've got a few lying around. Works great with my PS3 now!

p.s. FIFA is the way forward :p

I'm glad that everything is working out with the rest of you :p

There was a question about the audio from ryanhaver. What I do know is that the output of the audio on the iMac is mini-digital and a normal 3,5mm jack plug in one. I have a 5.1 speakerset connected to it with 1 jack ( obvious this turns out to be 2.1 actually but my speakerset is capable of 5.1 ). It should be possible to use a mini-digital > digital optical cable to connect it to a reciever which is connected to your own speakers. What I don't know is if the sound is outputted as 2.1 or as 5.1. HDMI is capable of 5.1 audio??? Don't know that for sure...

HDMI is capable of 8 channels of digital audio output/passthrough. If the iMac is recieving the true (original source) digital signal through the Dr. Bot; then routing that signal out the Mini toslink (digital optical out) on the iMac to a 5.1 surround setup would be plausable if OS X allows the incoming signal from the Dr. bot to be outputted via the minijack. I'm not sure how Snow Leopard handles audio. I'm new to Mac's in general. I know that you can output 5.1 via the digital-minijack when the audio source originates from withing OS X itself.

However, I'm unable to find any specifications on how the Dr Bot handles the audio. It just says "Video and Audio" on their site. So I'm assuming that it just downmixes it to two channels for playback on the internal iMac Speakers.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Long time reading the thread but first time posting. I want to thank everyone involved in making the iMac 27" capable of showing external devices (i mean Atlona , Dr Bott and Apogee makers and offcourse this forum's users who tested some of them with the correct resolution, do a lot of research and all that stuff).

I ordered weeks ago an i7 Quad-Core 2,8GHz 27" iMac with 4GB RAM, 1TB etc... and wanted to connect my Xbox 360 and PS3 for playing games and watching Blu-Rays.

Now i know that it's possible to do that and as soon as i receive my iMac (Apple Store is preparing my custom order and i will receive it February 5th) i will order Dr Bott's , Atlona or Apogee adapter.

By the way, any store which has any of those and capable of sending to Spain with no extratospheric delivery costs?

Hi - I actually installed using Bootcamp 3 and got everything working - I dont really want to risk breaking (or spending lots of time fiddling) to go to 3.1. Sorry.

I have not yet had a reply from Atlona about a new product. I got a email early in the new year saying they will contact me soon when but they have not. If I can get the the Dr Bott for £100 I might get one... I know I will be a little disappointed with the quality but at least it will work.

I have been following this thread with great interest - lots of fantastic work has been done here. I got a little distracted putting a SSD and second hard disk into my 13" MBP over XMAS but this stuff is awesome too.

so if i'm understanding the last few pages of this thread correctly, it is impossible to have 1080p input (i.e. via direct 360 or blu ray hook up) because the imacs only support 720p or 2560*1440 input? or has it just not been done yet?

Your first thought is the right one :)
If they ever will support 1080p via a firmware update or something at least the Dr Bott adapter will work also because it is able to pass through 1080p. But I don't see it happen though.

@Kaos2K, there was somebody on the last few pages that ordered it from a German store that shipped to Italy. You can also try to contact them via http://www.drbott.es/ or the emailadres info@drbott.es. Let us know if it worked out will you?

Just got my Dr.Bott from Dureg in the post. Ordered it on Monday afternoon.
All I need now is my iMac ordered on the 6th. Estimated shipping yesterday and still no sign. :(

I search over drbott.es and see that 3 physical stores are selling it near my zone.l I will try to contact them and see what happens ;).

I got mine shipped to Ireland from Germany. Pretty sure they ship everywhere. They had a good list of countries on the website.

Thanks Milty77. If the stores i'm go to visit hasn't got the Dr Bott i will order it in that webpage but i prefer to see if i can save money on shipping costs first :p (Macs are not cheap hehe).

You are right too, it cost me 160 euro for the connector & delivery.

For the spanish people out there i found another store for buying the Dr Bott for iMac 27" at only 99€ plus shipping (4,90 standard mail or 9,90 express 24h). They accept store picking up if you live en Barcelona and save shipping.

http://www.macnificos.com/product/1...Video-Link-DVI-a-Mini-DisplayPort-iMac-27.htm

They have aswell the 24" LED version (Which is the same as the iMac 27" only changing cables) for 79,90€

I don't know if they send items to other countries because in their webpage is not mentioned.

Success with Dr. Bott converter and PS3

I just had a chance to connect the Dr. Bott converter box to my PS3 and the iMac. The PS3 had been connected to my main TV which supports 1080p input.

I had to manually tell it to use 720p while connected to a "real" TV before I could get it working with the iMac. Once I did, I could see the PS3 menus on the iMac display. Success. Just by chance, the first disk I played was a DVD of a TV show rather than a Blu-Ray. It worked fine too.

The next disk I tried was Blu-Ray. As soon as I started playing it the iMac screen went black. Same for two other Blu-Ray disks. I could get the main PS3 menus, but not the movie content. After some futzing around I found that I needed to tell the PS3 that my display could not handle 24fps. At that point all was good again.

I haven't watched an entire movie with this yet, but so far the results are promising.

Hello everyone,

Is the picture quality realised by this method as good as an excellent 720p television? Because that's what I have right now (Panasonic Viera). I'm considering selling it to a friend and going this route for my 360/PS3/etc.

Advisable, or not?

Thanks.
