Okay Apple, if you do what I dream, I will buy a new Mac Pro tomorrow:

Mac Pro
Xeon 6 core
4gb ram
1tb harddrive
Geforce GTX 480 (or AT LEAST the 4xx series)
USB 3.0
Firewire 3200
Cool case redesign

I will drop 2000+ on this laptop immediately along with a new 27 inch cinema display if you come out with it.

If not, and you come out with the iMac refresh:

27inch
Quad Core i5
4gb ram
5850 default video card

I will buy one of those.

Please don't disappoint!

I grew up on CRT monitors, not TFT screens, so I'm used to glossy and it never bothered me! Plus glass is always better than plastic, easier to clean and tougher... And if you want true color accuracy, you're going to be sitting in a dark room anyway, so reflections won't be a problem.

I would be replacing my Magic Mouse with it. I much prefer to use my MBP's trackpad than any other pointing device, but when it's docked and on a stand, it is out of my use. A trackpad would really be great.

That's funny. I use my MacBook Pro here at work sitting slightly elevated on a stand (to get the screen at the right level) next to an old 20" ACD with external keyboard and Mighty Mouse (yes, with the obscene little nubbin). I find that I often reach over to the trackpad for things like scrolling and activating Dashboard, etc (I use jiTouch, which allows for more gestures than come stock), and periodically even use both at once for scrolling while clicking.

That having been said, the Mighty Mouse at home does everything the trackpad does, although requiring the whole thing to move to move the cursor. The only reason I'd go to a traditional multi-touch trackpad there would be because the gestures on the Mighty Mouse intentionally don't match those on the trackpad (ex, one finger to scroll, not two), which often means I do the "wrong" gesture when I move over to my home iMac.

Cool case redesign (That allows for 5 HDDs bays and a SSD CTO along with more PCI-e slots for the mounting need for expansion in the pro market.) otherwise we ALL couldn't care less.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

I am buying a tracpad tomorrow if they release. I really think this will help me a lot because I use an eternal monitor, keyboard, and mouse while I work. I dont use the magic mouse either because it doesn't have expose natively so I end up using a regar 5 button mouse. The scrolling is horrible
without the inertia, I could see using both a mouse and a tracpad while I work.

New Mac Pro without a media event?
Must mean they'll keep the same enclosure and just upgrade processor, gpu, maybe usb3 and new FW.

No reason not to keep the same enclosure.

And unless something completely insane happens, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't EVER see another event for a MP update, new case or not. They'll make it faster and add some features. Really no need to have the press show up in person for that.

Wouldn't you expect a Magic Trackpad device to be released at an Apple event? It seems that something like this needs some explanation/demonstration. Wouldn't it be a bit odd to have it just appear in the store? I suppose they will have some video showing it off though.

Magic Mouse and the last refresh of the iMacs didn't require an event :D

We need a freaking ==30"== LED display, not some inferior wannabe 27" excuse.

Simply switching to LED backlighting is not going to improve the display. In fact, it will make it much worse if they use the type of LEDs used in the iMac. 72% gamut is barely good enough for consumers who often wonder why their photos don't look quite right.

For Apple the use of LEDs is all about being "green": reducing energy consumption and eliminating the use of mercury.

Hopefully full spectrum LEDs have reached a price point where Apple will consider using them. If not the Cinema Display will have to remain "toxic" and use a CCFL backlight in order to be good enough for pro-sumer use.

No problem to keep the case but they need to built-in a better support for 2,5 inch drives in order integrate SSDs.

Agreed. The Mac Pro case is as timeless classic as you'll ever find in the PC world. I'd hate to see them change it just for the sake of change. The Mac Pro will still look good 10, 20 years from now. It's the Leica of computers.

lets just wait and see, all i know is my imac is getting older as the years go buy but it works perfectly so im happy
My iMac actually gets younger as the years pass :p I have the iBenjaminbutton edition.

Man you are loaded, for me, I'm just gonna have to drop it like its hot.

I grew up on CRT monitors, not TFT screens

I grew up on something that has become extinct nowadays... its called the outdoor sunshine without a computer screen in front of my face. Those were the days sonny, I tell you.

while this would be great if true...

It's a bit annoying Gruber posts a "double-hypothetical" update about the Magic Trackpad. This update pretty much negates my belief that we'll see that widespread an update tomorrow, especially since Apple's pattern has been 1 item for the middle of the month over the last 4 months. I know Apple announced multiple products in a single day, but I'll believe this when I see those wonderful "new" icons over iMac/Mac Pro at the Apple store (more likely in August/September/October etc).

No reflections simply isn't possible when the display itself emits a significant amount of light. Having the only light source directly in front of you maximizes reflections from your face, shirt, etc.
