Some here want higher resolution than the 27" iMac? That one's resolution is already marginally too high. Text is not easily read on it. Maybe that's why Apple introduced the reader feature on Safari 5 :D

Even the 30" ACD had a slightly lower resolution and was more comfortable to use. I'd be happy with a 30" refresh retaining the same resolution but with LED back-lighting and an updated facade/case. At least until the next version of OS X is resolution dependent (hopefully) that is.

John Gruber where are you?

So he posts on here at times? It would be great if he would chime in now!!

So...he isn't always right. Hmm...that is discouraging. Then this could be just another Tuesday of disapointment...I am so anxious for the iMac update...these empty Tuesdays are killing me.

That actually is a great idea. More real estate and better picture.

How do you get more real estate and a better picture from an HDTV with at best 1920x1080 resolution? Even the 24" Apple display has 1920x1200. A 27" would have 2560x1440.

Don't even get me started on "edge lit" LED backlighting.

Real display > re-purposed HDTV

who the f**k is John Gruber?!

Here is the pundit: ;)

You have to remember, a lot of MR members equate bigger TV means better than higher resolution, higher quality monitor/display.

It took me a long time to realize that not everyone on MR is a tech nerd.

I think they're going to drop the price of the 24" to maybe 5 or $699 and replace it with the 27" at $799.

Seriously? There has to be dozens, if not hundreds, of threads which contain the answer to these questions.

Why waste your time with this useless post if you're not even going to answer the question? It would have been much simpler (and more helpful) had you just answered with an approximate time.

The Vizio isn't that great, sorry.

Baloney. It works great for browsing the web and killing kiddies in MW2. :) I'm not some kind of freaking purist obsessed about minor technical details. as long as the image looks good and it's got a nice size, I'm fine with it. I don't need to massage my ego by buying an overpriced Apple monitor. The only Apple products I've got are the 10 iPods my wife and I own, because IMO, they are "best in class". Nothing else Apple makes, floats my boat. Sorry, bub.

Kinda hope the new screens would include an SD card slot or something. I know MacBook Pros, Mac Minis & iMacs already have them, but what about MacBooks & Mac Pros?

Also, if a 27" is replacing the 30", let's hope it can handle the 2560 x 1600 or better resolution. Would be nice.

Before you flame me, I really doubt Apple will do this. Just would be nice, though.

Because, in the time it took you to write your original post, you could have searched and found the answer to your question.

I'll still be nice though; usually the store goes down anytime from 3-7 a.m., then returns to normal with the updated products afterwards.

Yeah, they'll get right on that, given that every WQUXGA monitor that was produced sucked *and* has been discontinued:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WQUXGA#WQUXGA

It's certainly possible to support such a display over DisplayPort (avoiding the massive levels of suck caused by the need for 2 or 3 synchronized DVI connections that messed up the 2007 monitors) but even Apple can't just make the panel manufacturers start building panels *just* for them...

I'd like that on a MBP please. Retina MBP Vision

I had that dream too! :D

There's a HUGE difference between an HDTV and an H-IPS monitor with twice the resolution. Plus, Apple's current and previous offerings were very middle-of-the-line in terms of color specific, high end panels and tech.

Actually, the 27" will be the same as the one in the current 27" iMac. The SD card thing deserves a flame. :D

I've noticed a lot of people thinking it's the 27" iMac that's going to get a refresh... It's really impressive how many people just can't read a couple of paragraphs. :p

Anyway, if we don't see a matte option for the new ACDs, I highly doubt the next iMac will have a matte screen either = no deal for me and many other people. I can't understand this obsession with glass!!

Let's hope they get the prices in line with industry. The current cost of $899 for a 24" display is absolutely laughable. Apple has great displays, but there is simply no way I'd ever pay that kind of premium.

Not at all, in fact it is quite reasonable for the quality. For someone like myself that is a pro 3D artist, I have a $2,200 Eizo 24 inch LCD and use an EyeOne to color calibrate for exact colors, temp, etc. It all depends upon what you are going to use your monitor for that's all.

What could be the changes for the iMac?

I think the processor will stay the same. Maybe faster GPU, USB 3.0, FW 1200 and cheaper 4GB Ram upgrades from Apple? A matt iMac version would be nice, but that is rather unlikely...

16:9??!!

C'mon! These are computer monitors! Apple should afix these to 16:10. Period.

+1

16:9 is fine for TV but the extra height of a 16:10 is far more useful for full-screen photo editing.

On my 24" 1920x1200 - Dell as my MBP doesn't have Display Port - a 3:2 photo uses 1800x1200 so just a 60 pixels black border down each side but on a 1920x1080 16:9 screen the same photo would use only 1620x1080 so 150 pixels each side unused. For 4:3 photos from compact cameras it is an even bigger waste of screen real estate.

You have this opinion because you don't do any work that involves accurate colors. If you did work with editing images or color correcting/grading video your opinion would probably be very different.

Wireless keyboard

Like many others, I too have been waiting for this to happen. I sure hope the wireless keyboard has the number pad on it though.

I've noticed a lot of people thinking it's the 27" iMac that's going to get a refresh... It's really impressive how many people just can't read a couple of paragraphs.

What paragraphs are you referring to? The ones in this link:

http://www.appleinsider.com/article..._27_inch_cinema_display_expected_tuesday.html

Specifically where John Gruber says:

"We'll have much to talk about, what with the new Mac Pros (finally, right?), speed-bump iMacs, and the gorgeous new 16:9 27-inch Cinema Display that Apple might hypothetically release tomorrow,"

Why wouldn't that indicate that the 27" iMac is getting a refresh. It is due, it has an outdated GPU and could stand for a bump in speed to keep it class leading - given the high price.

Until something is released from Apple tomorrow...we are all just pulling stuff out of...the sky. So why criticize people that are reading into his statement?

Displays would be nice but I don't have anything with DisplayPort.

I think they're going to drop the price of the 24" to maybe 5 or $699 and replace it with the 27" at $799.
I don't think Dell can get away with charging more than Apple for long at a hopeful $799 for a 1440p display.

Like many others, I too have been waiting for this to happen. I sure hope the wireless keyboard has the number pad on it though.

That would actually be something I'd love to see. Especially one that took 4 or 5 AA batts just to make it last longer. Call it a pro keyboard and charge me $110 for it and I might bite.

OF COURSE you are correct! My needs aren't sufficiently critical for having a "super" monitor. I already mentioned what my primary use for the Vizio is, so it should be no wonder that it is sufficient. I've got 4 HD TV's in the house, up to 61", so I'm hardly one who is "suffering" from hardware envy. I just don't NEED a more fancy monitor for my desktop & gaming needs.
