So wait, will my 2009 27" iMac 'look' outdated with the imac refresh? I mean, will these cinema displays mockups be the new physical iMac screen? Or are these just for the seperate cinema screens, and the imac will look the same, but with USB 3.0, FireWire etc.?

All rumors I know but I would be pished if the refreshed iMacs actually looked different.

Status symbol much?

Probably the most egregious piece of Apple abandonware right now is the 30" Cinema Display.

It's still TFT (!!) and when you look at it in the store next to any other display you would swear its defective because there is virtually no contrast or brightness.

It's an abomination that Apple should even be selling such an outdated technology. I mean, even Dell is using LED IPS displays on both it's 30" displays.

Of course, not only are they still selling it, but it still costs $1800.

WTF.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but aren't the ACD's IPS (S-IPS or H-IPS, I forget) CCFL LCD's? In fact, the 30" CCFL LCD is still a pretty high ranked display, albeit LED LCD IPS displays should be a standard with Apple Cinema Displays at this point.

As well, I would like to see the use of the mini-display port daisy-chaining, that is the ability to connect one display to another directly. I'm surprised Apple has not allowed this with their current 24" LED LCD.

Would you just set this 'trackpad' where your desktop mouse is?

I would be replacing my Magic Mouse with it. I much prefer to use my MBP's trackpad than any other pointing device, but when it's docked and on a stand, it is out of my use. A trackpad would really be great.

I really hope this happens! I've been browsing these forums since Feb waiting on some type of iMac refresh. I've been ready to buy a 27" i7 for months now, but the thought of a yellow screen has kept me waiting. All I'm really hoping for in a refresh (at least for the high-end iMacs) is no yellow screens, more RAM at base price level, and better graphics. If Apple can deliever on this, I will be ready to place my order tomorrow! :D

The only reasons I'm not sure if it's really going to happen tomorrow is the back to school promotion and iLife Aug release. It would make sense to me that the new iLife would be installed on the new iMacs and Mac Pros... but we'll see. Apple seems to do a lot of things that don't really make sense.

I am in the same boat. The only thing that makes me excited is the Gruber link. He was dead on last time. And the iMac is due.

Don't need a new monitor yet (I currently have the 23-inch Cinema Display), but if the new monitor comes only in glossy, I won't be buying my next monitor from Apple.

The Apple's 24" displays use the H-IPS panels with LED Backlighting (pretty up to date on technology) but the 30" Cinema Display uses the older S-IPS panel with a CCFL backlit technology.

I wish Apple would keep the 30" Cinema display the way it is but just add an LED backlight, USB 3.0 and make it thinner (non glossy).

However, I've sold my 24" LED Cinema display a few months ago (best 24" I've ever owned, glossy or not) and I've been waiting for the 27" to be released. I sure hope they do release the 27" because I'll be the first in line tomorrow morning!!

I MIGHT even be tempted to pick up the 12 core Mac Pro as well!

They are starting to expand the testing of OS X 10.6.5 to third party developers. I think this is another hint that both iMacs and Mac Pro are being refreshed very soon. There is a lot of leaks happening in short period of time.

New designs?

I would like to see an all new case design for the Mac pro, that old space heater design is donkeys now! In fact, it would be nice to see new designs for the iMac too and perhaps include a touch screen [no chance of this - imagine the cost!] but I guess if they release the magic pad or whatever they're gonna call it, then maybe they'll replace the mouse with it on new machines - that would be cool.

Not bothered about their large monitors - way to overpriced and now massively reflective in the glossy design too! I guess little Johnny Ive doesn't have windows or cheap office strip lighting in the top secret Apple dev labs.

I'd also like to see an update for iWork, anyone know when this'll be released, I'm still using '08! It's always good to skip a generation, but in this case I think I skipped the wrong one... Doh!

I want my Platinum Mac Pro!!

You know I really hope the new entry level imacs have a dedicated graphics card, probably not likely, but honestly the 9400M's can't really handle any of the new games, and not to mention there is lag when opening the application stacks, and I think it is primarily due to the graphics card..

Hopefully the new imacs also use Core i3 or i5 Dual Cores..
