end of month

3.1 will probably be released when AT&T is ready to enable MMS. Question is, how long will be this? I guess we'll keep seeing 3.1 Betas until MMS is ready. I hope it isn't 4 or 5 Betas. Damn you, AT&T. I needed to send a picture to a friend the other day...the MMS way.

Apple said they are TRYING to get the fix for the vulnerability out by the end of the month. Hopefully so, and hopefully it will include mms.

Carrier file for Rogers here in Canada was updated, but everything works well MMS and tethering, no problems. I wonder if 3g speed increased, max I've ever had here was 400.6 KB.

Still having build problems under 3.1.
An app that doesn't leak under 3.0 starts up with a varying number of leaks and will eventually crash!

build it under 3.0 and run it on 3.0 OR 3.1 and it doesn't leak!!

So you assume your code was flawless under 3 and the compiler changes for 3.1 are at fault? What does a dtrace tell you?

Did an update and install (not restore) to my iPhone 3GS and it got rid of tethering. The config profile was still there from benm. I deleted the profile, reinstalled it, restarted my iPhone and still no option to re-enable tethering. :(

Edit: On AT&T incase you were wondering

Of course it comes out when I'll be out of town (am right now) and I won't be back till Saturday. Beta 1 is kinda teh suck.

I think it's become quite apparent that Apple broke tethering with this release. It's more than likely something AT&T will be charging for after it's official release and they probably got tired of their precious bandwidth being used without being able to rape the consumer.

Found bugs fixed (from beta 1):

In beta 1, they got rid of the option to change search results, by reordering and unchecking ones you don't want to appear in spotlight. It is now back in beta 2.

Also, I had 4 music videos by both Queen and Billy Joel, and in 3.1 beta 1 under Billy Joel, when I clicked on his name under music videos, it would show a list of just 1 random song (not music video) I had by Billy Joel. Same with Queen but it would show one of the music videos and not all 4. This is fixed in beta 2.

was at carrier 5.0 before and after but VVM stopped working. I've re-applied the 5.0 still no VVM.

Yup, and I bet Apple broke it under pressure from AT&T. It is clear Apple wants the iPhone to tether. It's listed as a feature on Apple's US iPhone 3.0 website. See http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

AT&T clearly wants to charge for it, though I don't know what the heck is taking them so long. While I'd much rather have it free, I wouldn't mind paying at most $30 a month for tethering. I know we're paying for unlimited data, but AT&T doesn't expect us to use a large amount. Tethering certainly increases the amount you use. I had my first > 1GB of data last month thanks in large to tethering. Though still remember I wish we had free tethering like a lot of carriers in other countries.

You don't understand smart phones and business utility of the device.

1) What are you printing from your iPhone exactly? I am curious. Didn't HP showcase a wireless printing app? Most likely this is not going to be added to the OS. Doubt 90% of iPhone users will print anything. Less stuff to the OS, the better. We still have a very limited device with low memory.
You are right about HP.

As to the features supplied with the OS they can continue to grow in breadth. That is as long as they don't squeeze user space as you alluded to. Instead what we need is simplified print services with out all the spooling of CUPS.
2) (AV out) That would be nice, I thought that was already working before? Did they stop that or take it out in 3.0?
3) I don't think Apple will enable keyboard bluetooth. Very small market for it.
I'm not sure why people think that way. They would not be hardware that Apple would market anyways. But from time to time using a keyboard that is laying around would be useful. For what's involved it can't take much over head. Besides there are cool devices that emulate the profile that might be useful to some apps.
4) Maybe when they release iDisk App, it can be used to send files over email. I doubt Apple will add a user file system to the iPhone, it's a smartphone not a laptop.

This to me is a big deal and really limits iPhones utility in the business market. If your out and about and a networking opportunity comes up being able to send the right attachment can be very handy indeed. That could be a resume or a line card with contact info or PDFs focused on a specific product. Frankly the lack of a store for critical documents, so that they may be easily e-mailed as attachments is a big boner on Apples part.

E-mail attachments from stored files is a critical issue for many. Ideally locally stored files on the iPhone. If Apple doesn't get this then they are open to stiff competition from those that do.

AT&T has no control over when Apple releases an update. There are other carriers that iPhone is on. Why would Apple only listen to AT&T? To enable MMS on AT&T iPhones you just have to install the updated Carrier file.

Dave

This is where Apple's Mobile Me marketing comes into play.

Just updated my 3G to 3.1b2... and the screen is about as yellow as the 3Gs' now. Joy.

I have the exact same problem :(
