Thinner would be nice, but I have no complaints about the current iPhone's thickness. Lighter would be appreciated, though.

Also, I guess it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that they'll use a faster processor in it? That really bodes well for games, the demos already blew me away at the SDK announcement, with an even faster chip they'll be even more amazing.

As for 32GB, i hope it's available. I would pay a premium if necessary.

Forward-facing camera

A few days ago, I came across some information on AppleInsider regarding a forward-facing camera on the 3G iPhone. I'm on an iPhone right now, so I can't link to the page, but it detailed how hundreds of micro-cameras would be meshed with the LCD display. The cameras would each take a portion of a picture, and then software would price the mini-pictures together to create a full picture. The patent for this came about 3 years BEFORE iphone's introduction, so perhaps they would build this into the 3G iPhone. It would be great for corporate users, so they could hold video conferences wherever they are. Lately, Apple has been taking on corporate users, so who knows? I think it's a great idea.

If I were Apple: I think first generation should be continued at its current price and second generation should cost $200 more, assuming feature set provides sufficient value. AND I would include a $100 rebate for new service contract on both generations. This will extract additional revenue from exporters while actually reducing the price of current hardware by $100 if you're using the US phone as intended. They should announce the above at WWDC but not ship in US until 9/23/08. By telling everyone the next generation will cost so much more, they won't cannibalize sales of first generation. Just to make us happy, give us the rebate starting June 10 on EDGE iphones. If they are going to sell 3G worldwide unlocked, (as now rumored in Australia) it will be impossible to overprice it. Demand will be hunormous.

I had no idea Apple would voluntarily give out free money!

wait....killing me....... can't take........such enticing rumors.........tried setting clock forward....

didn't work.

hrmm.. that sounds really cool. but it seems like that technology wouldn't be very economical. so i think the rumor about two cameras seems more likely.

My first Mac, a 1994 7100, only had a 500MB Harddrive and 8MB Ram... It still boggles my mind.

How about 8 MHz, 1 MB of RAM, and a ton of extra money because they convinced me to upgrade to the 40 MB hard drive, which took years to fill up.

I can't keep myself away from this forum and all the iPhone news... I'm out of contract with Verizon and ready to buy one but waiting for the update. Come on, June!

Pfft! My first Apple computer had 1MB RAM and no HDD (II GS).

Anyways, to all the GPS fans, its possible that the phone could support A-GPS. So while not top quality, its decent in terms of location quality. That plus skyhook would be pretty good.

does anyone know if 3G phones have better reception? cuz ATT sucks so bad it's not even funny. i live at the bottom of a small hill in a major metropolitan area and i had to get a landline at my apt cuz i have no signal. and ATT says 'we dont guarantee service'. they also told me that they have the 'largest coverage area' to which i responded that you may have the largest coverage area but it has the crappiest service.

my girlfriends Cricket phone works here with 3 bars FFS. so does my parents' Verizon phones. ugh.

They did it on the iPod touch...

But as we just explained, the iPhone has, well, phone parts in it, which limits how many other things you can put into it. Like some people a few posts above said, the iPod Touch has two slots for memory, whereas the iPhone only has one.

According to their sources, the 3G iPhone will indeed be introduced at Apple's World Wide Developer's Conference (WWDC) in June. The 3G iPhone is expected to retain the same price points as the existing iPhone with an 8GB model priced at $399 and a 16GB model priced at $499. While they mention some speculation about a $599 32GB model, this remains unconfirmed.

The 3G iPhone is expected to be housed in a slightly thinner enclosure, less "plasticky" design, with some accelerometer tweaks. The operating system and user interface will remain unchanged.

Hmm. The EDGE 8GB and 16GB commanding $299 and $399, each model in 3G commanding $100 more, with a 32GB 3G iPhone for about $599 (where all them tax rebates are going)...

I'm surprised they say the OS will stay the same. Not true. All new and used iPhones will have iPhone 2.0. Unless they were cracked, in which case, they'll be in whatever the hacked version is.

My rebate check is going to have iPhone 3G 32GB written all over it.

Dude, I'm crying because I'm still in contract with t-mobile until the end of this month! As for the whining, well that's just an affectation.

T-Mobile isn't going to force you to sign a new contract once this one is up. You can just go month to month and wait until you want to make a decision.

Less "plasticky" than glass and metal? I guess stone would be kind of nifty.
Yeah, that struck me as odd too. How much less plasticky could it be? LED backlighting and LED flash for the camera (3+ MP) would be cool, but I'm not holding my breath on those.

THIS is the deal breaker for me. GPS you can get anywhere now, and the cell phone triangulation works fine, but a nice video chat on an iphone (a technology asia has been using for years now) would be VERY NIIIIIICE, HIGH 5

wow some people here really thinks just because the ipod touch has 32gb the iphone could mimic it as well...

why cant i use my ipod nano as phone? well thats what u would ask i guess...
btw i guess there will be no price drop. u get a more advance technology for the same price (thats what i think). as well they would piss all recently buyers off. they just cant make every 3-4 months new features a price drop or more capacity.

a japanese phone is slim? yes they are... but do u see a japanese phone with 16gb? no
if yes call me :D

what i hate most about my iphone is that i am so afraid of slipping it away...
the aluminium is just so slippery. if u are walking downstairs and are in a hurry it might happen really easily. maybe they could give the metall more texture.

I think it is thin enough.

Thinner is usually good and all but the iphone and especially the touch are already very thin. Much thinner and I don't feel it would be comfortable to hold as a phone anymore.
