So all that matters are specs? Since when does a bigger number automatically equate to something being more premium?

Always does. That's why the S6, with 3gb of RAM and an 8 core processor offers the more premium experience, right? ;) Bigger numbers seem to win in marketing, but we both know numbers aren't the whole story.

Unless there's 3 phone models now this isn't going to increase $100 in price. Apple's not going to have a $200 price difference in phone models. They can upsell people $100 but not $200. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Plus name gets dropped and we have iPhone in 4.7" and 5.5" sizes and a Galaxy a Note clone called iPhone Pro that will be $100 more than the 5.5" iPhone and will come with 3GB RAM and go up to 256GB in storage.
iPhone Pro that will be $100 more than the 5.5" iPhone and will come with 3GB RAM and go up to 256GB in storage

Exactly what they will do (if this is rumor is true) - people that normally buy 64GB might decide that 32GB+Cloud will work for them and Apple precious margins will suffer.

Like your 7 year old Mac with a 4 year old video card??
Not sure why you feel the need to post this, other than getting personal. Maybe should have said 'real computer' instead (don't care about gaming) but as I explained already,

I said:
Name a few [tasks] that need more please. I'm running a lot of stuff on my SE but no games, and again - 2GB is plenty.

If there is a difference in the amount of RAM, the reason will not be marketing. Apple never reveals RAM amounts. The only people who know there's a difference will be nerds who visit MacRumors.
Where do people get rubbish like this from?
Apple reveal precisely what they want specifically to meet their marketing agenda when it suits them. They might not have revealed it in this particular instance but they are spec whores when the need arises.

They mention the ram in the iPad Pro but not the iPhone ;-)

I read MacRumors just about every day. I hardly ever post. I'm an all-in Apple user (Apple and B&O, that's been the setup in my house & in my pocket for years and years and years – they work well together in many ways).

But really: is this what Apple news, or rumours, is all about these days: emojis and the amount of RAM?

If there was no iOS/OSX ecosystem, and if there was an alternative to replace it all, I'd do it – reading here all about what Apple's competitors do.

There's been nothing exciting about Apple in the last two years – and I AM wearing an Apple Watch, with a new Storm Gray leather band, but WHY?

Is 2016 just something we have to endure, and live (sleep) through, waiting for the 10th anniversary iPhone and all the other amazing stuff Apple will release next year at their new spaceship campus?

Or will 2017 be the culmination of disappointment?

I'm losing my faith in Apple.

Same here! There was a time I would fiercely defend Apple and their products. First they neglected the Pro users, now they are milking to the last drop. It's hard- and software they're lagging. What are they doing with their billions?

I rather have more ram then features
What you gonna do with that extra ram if no features? If you have iPhone 6 then you do need more ram. But if you have the 6S then you're good to go, therefore we need more features to take advantage of the extra power.

When two rams aren't enough for iOS 10...

Got to say that my choices for this year is between the iPhone 6SE plus or the Nexus devices after seeing the Samsung Note 7 yesterday. As a S7 owner I'm not impressed with it and as a iPhone 6S owner I'm not impressed with the iPhone leaks. Only the Nexus is going to offer a different look and it's a device that I can pay for outright.
Apple would have me in their pockets if they show off a completely new and fresh design. Not sure if I can bring myself to using the same design language for the third time. Apple really needs to stick to the 2 year refresh cycle.

To be future proof! The 6 is only two years old and having troubles with the ram already. Like the soldered ram in the iMacs and MacBooks. If you chose bare minimum, you'll regret any system update in the future.

Just get one of the "other Android phones with better specs", if you think they are a better choice. It's a serious suggestion. I'm sticking with Apple and iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I sure did. The Galaxy Note5 is better than the iPhone in every way (in my opinion, of course). Don't sell yourself short, try other handsets out there. You can always come back. :D

I used to swear by Apple, but the Android world has really caught up and even surpassed Apple in many ways.

And silly-ass decisions like deliberately crippling their hardware to save a few pennies, increase margins, & ensure an upgrade path is the top thing that really pisses me off about Apple.

That and their forced software upgrade/no-rollback policy for iOS. It drove me away, and I 'm really not coming back until they cut the crap.

I hope more people follow suit, because aside from this their devices are great. Perhaps if they lose enough customers they'll really start giving us the BEST devices they can make.

EDIT: Just saw the Note7. For me, that's the new (power user) bar. And it is high as hell. Sadly, Apple will NEVER get there.

Someone gets it. Apple sold a lemon that's the iPhone 6 with only 1GB that is inadequate for iOS 9 and won't be able to run iOS 10 with full features. Also, Apple cheapened out the 6 with bendable aluminum for higher profit. The 6S is what the 6 should've been.

Macs aren't good for games because the lack of a decent graphic card. They are long overdue for a hardware update as well.

To get back on the 2GB... Why does an iPhone has to be that expensive compared to other Android phones with better specs? Apple has all the benefits of buying big at their OEM partners to get cheaper prices. Funny to see the Huawei P9 already offers dual camera (better than the 6S Plus). I'm curious how the market responds if Apple raises the price for that by another $ 100.

Apple needs the rumored iPhone 8 now to not fall into an overpriced dull company. Where is the innovation? (My ass)

To be fair to Apple, it does develop its SoC. Too bad this causes Apple to skimp out on other areas. It seems like the only time Apple finally improves something, like the front facing camera, it's only when it is horribly outdated and superior parts are the same price as the outgoing parts. Because margins, margins, margins...

precisely. And this is why people wish Steve was still here - I'd have to look at the historical data, but I don't think Steve was as concerned with margins. 1997+ onward, Apple was making slow and steady profits. But now, it's out of control. It's not what the customers are asking for (future proofing at a reasonable price), it's about managers maintaining margins so the quarterly comes close to analyst expectations, and the stock stays high. Apple isn't looking out for its customers anymore, it's providing the bare minimum for customers from a hardware standpoint, to keep Apple managment rich and shareholders happy.

Management at Apple is rich and happy, and it shows. They aren't hungry, they aren't looking out for the customer. I could see Google/Microsoft catching up within the next 5-7 years. I just don't see the passion or urgency I saw when Steve was captain of the ship.
