I'll have to believe that until I see it... Apple takes awhile to upgrade RAM on their devices.

The 6s just received a 2GB of RAM after years of iPhones having 1GB of RAM, and since the introduction of 2 iPhone launching with 6 and 6 Plus Apple has been known to keep the spec sheet fairly across the board minus the screen resolution & OIS. I remain skeptical of this until I see it.

Could not agree more. I feel like 3gb of RAM in an iPhone is a long time away.

You can never have too much RAM. Surprised it's not an even number.

I have 16GB in my 4Ghz i7 5k iMac, and I just hope it doesn't crawl to a halt in 8 years' time. Perhaps I should have got 32GB.

No you aren't - you know Apple doesn't give away freebies ;)

If 3 is the bare minimum 3 is what you're getting.

Just put the same features in both models and have the screen size as the sole differentiator. I'm sure whatever they're putting in the Plus model would fit into the regular 7. It is quite annoying they put higher end features in the bigger phone if you want the smaller model.

It probably won't need it but then again, that dual-camera might take up a lot of RAM. Makes sense to add it to the larger model only.

How?

Given that most images, in JPG mode, are 3MB each... or ~12MB in RAW mode, having 2GB or 3GB or 1Gb of RAM makes little difference unless the OS and existing open applications are total oinkers... And TBH I'd rather use Photoshop and RAW mode to do custom image cleaning... Either way the amount of RAM used is going to be negligible - sell us a faster data bus, faster Flash ROM, and more storage space instead. Maybe an external MicroSD slot so the phone storage doesn't get used up as quick as it can (or as many people who gripe about it, which is a lot...)

God people are never happy.

If companies don't have more features, the product dies.

"Produce or perish". Remember? It's the system people want, at least until they get the downside (at which point it's not their fault, even when it's not, for wanting it...)

If you owned a 6 or a 6 Plus and upgraded iOS 8 > 9, you would know what I'm talking about.

I have a 6 running on 9.3.3 and I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about - pinpoint what's putting the drag on your RAM - sounds like you've isolated it, correct?

The 9.7 ipad pro is a enlarged version of the iphone 6s plus just with true-tone .....honestly
Not really, it's a shrunk down version of the 12.9" Pro if anything. I mean you could argue that it's an enlarged iPhone in the same way that you could argue it was an enlarged iPod touch when it was released. Just because it has 2GB of ram doesn't mean it is an enlarged version of another device with 2GB ram.

But 5k iMacs have upgradeable RAM. Just add another 16 later. Why wait 8 years, do it ASAP :)

More ram is welcome, but I doubt this rumor is true,as iPad Pro and the rest of iPad lineup have 2GB of ram,so how can a phone have more ram than the top of the range "pro" tablet?

In for all the complaints about specs when specs have never been something Apple has pushed. It's not about the processor inside but how the software and hardware work together. This is how Apple has been able to out perform others with far higher hardware specs in the past.
Actually, Apple's processor inside has had higher "specs" in the past than most competitors. It's always been at or near the top in performance since the iPhone 4s. RAM is an area where they've been behind the competition (depending on the year and model). But Apple should be proud of their processor performance. It's some of the best you can get in a mobile device.

IPad Pro 13" has 4 GB of RAM. And the 9.7 has 2, but this iPhone will be newer than that tablet, it's not a problem for Apple to give a new phone more RAM than a slightly older tablet. (See iPad 1, iPhone 4)

The top of the line iPad Pro 12.9 has 4GB. Apple got greedy again with the iPad Pro 9.7 giving it only 2GB.

I would not say Apple procs have high specs, they are only 2 cores (3 for A8x) with modest max frequency when competition release 8 to 10 cores, big LITTLE, ... But sure, they are quite good performers, and it is all I care about.

wahhhhhh the physically larger phone gets more stuff packed inside, but I'm gonna complain that apple doesn't magically make more space in the smaller iPhone so i can have it too. wahhhhhh

Makes the 9.7 iPad Pro......obsolete already if a 5.5 iPhone needs 3GB ram

They have in the past, but seems they are upping the hardware specs recently, matching android closer
