Hey Guys,

I followed the advice of musclenerd on twitter who advised to use redsn0w for those having trouble installing cydia after the GP jailbreak. I too could not get the loader program to install cydia. So, I used redsn0w after GP and only had "install cydia" selected in the options and it installed cydia and everything appears to be working fine. I had to chase down redsn0w but I used the most recent version I could find (0.9.7, I believe as I am at work right now) which is not on the main dev-team page. I saw many credible folks on twitter saying this method is fine and so far so good.

link to that version ?
just tried 0.97 beta 6 and when i run it .. it says to select the ipsw file before i can do anything else which i dont have

What's everyone's best guess as to how long it'll take for a windows version to be released?

I'm thinking maybe I'll just run into my local bestbuy and use one of their Macs on display. If I do I just hope the process goes smooth and I'm in and out within 30 seconds.

What also surprises me are the timid lines of questioning (repeated) on trivial things.
haha, that's because they've been reading these forums long enough to know they're going to get their head snapped off for the slightest infraction.

+1

What also surprises me are the timid lines of questioning (repeated) on trivial things. Makes me wonder how some are brave enough to even leave their house every day without a body guard.

In the neighborhood I live most people probably do need a bodyguard:D

I just jailbroke today, Only reason I waisted a day was I wasn't sure it it would make me lose Bitesms which I just paid for. I just woke up this morning and what the heck and it worked.

well just used redsnow to install cydia .. i selected the ipsw then only had install cydia checked but it looked like it went thru rejailbreaking it :(

Funny I think your resale value sucks because of the broken home button. But that's just me. I wouldn't buy that phone if the button didn't work. Maybe it's easy to fix on your own?

Had the same problem with you, I booked an appointment at an apple store , showed to the genius, he played a while with it and he gave me a replacement. No question asked, it was a 5 minute thing. Go book your appointment, now!:)

Just installed with no issues. It was simple as can be, although, I don't have cydia yet. Someone more knowledgable than me know what that's about? I have 'Loader' right now, but it does nothing.

I was on 4.1 JB until it wouldn't exit safe mode....even after I uninstalled every single JB app. I think this time I'll avoid winterboard.

Also...I have never understood Tinyumbrella...should I save the state of my iphone now? Or should I have done that before the JB?

Ugh this looks like a hassle. Think I am going to just wait for 4.3 JB assuming it comes out relatively soon after 4.3 is released. If not it will give them more time to work out the bugs.

:) Ya, I'm totally fine on 4.1 for right now. Don't think I'm missing much in 4.2.1 anyways. Think I'll just wait until the 4.3 JB comes out.

It will appear as if you are rejailbreaking it. It's fine according to the authors of both programs. GP and Redsn0w "stay out of each others way" they say.

Yes you will need the ipsw file for the 4.2.1 firmware. If you have updated to 4.2.1 its already on your computer. Otherwise you will need to download it.

Try this link for the iPhone 4 ipsw.

So, just confirming this:

1. the newest version of GreenPois0n (RC 5 2) seems to be working OK

2. you will have a greenpois0n graphic every time you reboot your iPhone 4

3. you can use redsn0w to install cydia after gp (if necessary)

True!!!!
the only way to install Cydia is to use GP and then install Cydia with Redsn0w!!!
Thanks !

I would say this is correct.

so to get Cydia, I just have to download the 4.2.1 ipsw and click "install Cydia" in redsnow? sounds easy enough :D

That's great! Just hoping that the Windows version will be released by this weekend.

Is anyone else getting "this iPhone needs to be restored" after using the new build of Greenpois0n?

The Jailbreak went through fine (albeit I can't get Cydia at the mo) but when I connect to iTunes I get two iPhone's listed in the devices section on the left. If I eject the second iPhone the 1st one then syncs as usual.

Only seems to happen after a reboot of the iPhone and then plugging it it. Later connections are then ok.

** Edit - A reboot of the Mac sorted it. Probably should have tried that first! **

Worked for me on the first try.

iPhone 4, 4.2.1, with redsn0w tethered JB. Did not restore.

Using a MBP with latest iTunes version.

Downloaded from here: http://www.quickpwn.com/greenpois0n-download

Direct link: http://goo.gl/9EyiQ

0. Back up in iTunes
1. Closed iTunes
2. Unzip greenpois0n
3. Open greenpois0n
4. Press and hold power, power off iphone.
5. Press power for 3 seconds
6. Press and hold power + home for 10 seconds
7. While still holding home, release power
8. Click jailbreak in greenpois0n
9. Keep holding home until jailbreak is complete
10. Wiat 3-4 minutes for iPhone to boot up.
11. Done.

All apps are there, cydia working. Can reboot fully untethered. Skull Logo at boot.

Actually it's the reverse that's true. We get in trouble for snapping off heads.

I have to bite my tongue a lot when surfing here. Many times I have to just walk away because I get ticked at the high level of stupid questions/laziness of some posters.

Does this have to be a fresh restore for GP to work or can we update from 4.1 to 4.2.1 and jb
