As well as AirVideo, BBC iPlayer and Sky Mobile TV don't work either. A bit of a dealbreaker if you like to watch lots of videos.

Those aren't bugs!

It's simply due to those Apps not being optimised for 4.2 on the iPad...which stands to reason as they have only just got the SDK. You shouldn't be installing this on a day to day iPad and expect to have functionality in all of your downloaded Apps.

My WIFI went out also it has come back on after a couple of reboots but its out again how does it go from one day working perfect then the next day act up ? I will wait it out to see if the second beta will fix it.

4.2 beta 1 bugs found so far

I have also noticed that I cant move my apps on to a different page, has any one else have this bug? on the 4.2 beta

I think the bugs are time released because now the mail has been crashing my wifi is back, dont get it why did this not happen all day yesterday ?

Yeah, they come in swarms...it's what apple planned. First wifi, then mail crashing, then a flashing Apple logo telling you to buy more...

Wifi and 3G icon confused

The icons for wifi and 3G don't work like in 3.2. I can turn on airplane mode, and 3G will still be on and active. Then I turn off 3g under networks and 3G still shows as active. Then I turn on Wifi and the wifi icon does not show, although I am connected. So at that moment I honestly don't know if I am on Wifi or 3G.

Mail is not crashing on me, but a few hours ago when writing a mail, did not show any text, although the cursor was moving. Had to reset. Then later it showed an edit box, which would stay whatever I did in the mail app. Had to reset.

Of course iTunes updates carrier settings every time I connect to my iMac.

I find some apps take longer to load. Even Pages and iBooks.

No reason to ditch it though. Was out for a day and did everything needed without disturbance.

I am having issues with video playback under both AirVideo and VLC. Anyone else?

Both live conversion and converting before playback in AirVideo just sit with the spinning activity indicator and go nowhere.

VLC will occasionally playback audio but otherwise simply displays a blank black screen. Tested with 6 different video files. (all different encodings)

Ya i'm hoping this is fixed very soon - I like 4.2 a lot but bugs are making me a little angry.

Lol - you joined MR in May 2010 and already have a Demi-God status? Wow.

1 - You or anyone else can join today and get a Demi-God status. It is not indicative of your post count or contribution to thread content. It's merely a sign of financial contribution to this site.

2 - And why would 4.2 BETA 1 make you angry ? Yes it has bugs, it's because it's a BETA designed for developers to test their apps on the latest operating system and not for impatient end users who circumvented the developer program one way or the other  it is not designed or advised to run any beta software on your device if you are relying on that device for 100% compatability & stability. That's what final GM and public releases are for.

Not sure if someone else caught this bug before me, but in the "Video" app, trying to delete a video podcast crashes out to home screen for me.

Going to check device logs tonight to see what it's choking on.

I also occasionally get "Could not activate cellular data network" even though I keep 3G off at work/home and I was actively downloading a podcast via wifi w/cellular switched off at the time.

1. Thanks didn't know.
2. Hence, I mentioned I look forward to future releases.
3. What is GM?

Can any of the developers in this thread add my iPad number to their Xcode, and tell me how I can get iOS 4.2. I have Xcode and I do some coding but I'm not going to become a developer until I know what I'm doing better.

Thanks

Yes, I contributed. I've found this site to be really useful on many occasions and wanted to support it.

Honestly, unless you are developing an app you really shouldn't upgrade to beta 1. There are lots of third party apps that have issues with the beta and a few common semi-serious bugs in the OS. It's meant for testing app compatibility not for normal use.

It you do want to try coding you will need the Xcode beta 1 release also. Becoming a developer is only $99, so it you do want to develop apps it's worth the investment.

Oh, fair enough, I guess I'll take your advise.

1. Even if oragami slideshow is selected in picture frame settings, dissolve is used
2. iStudiez Pro crashes on launch, BIG let down for me!

iStudiez Pro works fine for me on 4.2. Can't remember if I updated it.

In the Mail app, the up arrow doesn't work. It sends you to an older message rather than a more recent one.

Now that it's been a few days I've noticed WiFi has been flaking out on me. I'll have signal but internet access drops. I'll need to power down and back up and it's fine again.

However I've had WiFi issues all along with the pad and my FIOS actiontek router. I disabled the B band and it's mostly stable however I will need to reconnect to WiFi every other day or so cause it craps out. With 4.2 it seems more severe and requires the reboot.

The new VLC player doesn't seem to work in 4.2. I get audio and no video. I also tested a popular porn site and it doesn't stream anymore. Hahaha.

That and the music sorting thing is all I noticed so far.

Folders work great! I went from 5.. pushing 6 cluttered pages to 1 neat page.

Oh its the 16GB wifi only model.

Anyone else noticed a weird artifact in the top left corner of the home screen? Gently drag the screen a few millimeters to the spotlight screen and back and forth.
