You make some great points. But there is no way I or you can speak for what Samsung or any other Company may do for that matter when it comes to future ideations of Cell Phones, especially when profit margins are the only thing that matters. These next two years will be a defining Time For Apple and its competitors, In terms of where the Cellular World is heading.

Wireless earbuds have upsides and downsides, we will see what alternative we have with adapters when the iPhone 7 is released. In one month we should no more.

Samsung sells phones for every consumer budget in the market, so cost is a major consideration for its clients - Apple's pricing puts in the brackets of customers that it can sweat for more dollars to buy additional accessories for something that could be already done on the earlier iPhones. I am quite sure that the headphone jack will remain for the mainstream android brands - the writings are on the wall.

I'm a bit confused...
I read about all those complains related to the camera bump.

Are those complains really due to people having no clue about the current state of the technology and somehow believe that Apple can "magically" "gorgeously" deliver comparable camera performance at 50% the thickness of Samsung, Sony, LG... despite not even making their own sensor?

Or... those people are so caught up with form over function that they wouldn't care getting *worse* camera performance in 7 compared to 6s just so they can say "no camera bump, Apple rules!" while showing off their 1" thick Pokemon Go case (does that exist yet? :))

Well you haven't read much then it seems - the general consensus is that most people want the better camera but couldn't give a **** about "Thin" and Ive's obsession with it. Make the phone thicker, camera flush and bigger battery, concentrate on ergonomics - better shape in hand than the current bar of soap shape, don't put the power button opposite the volume controls so you squeeze together.

There you go.

I think this next refresh will prove critical to Apple's future plans for milking us. Apple has to convince enough people that Pro means getting many/most of the features other flag ship phones have but at a premium.

Want that extra gigabyte of RAM that will extend the life of your phone? $100. Oh wait it's also "needed" by the dual cameras. That's how they will justify it.

Look at Apple's "Pro" line of laptops. Who is left to justify the price differences compared to the competition?

I see no problem with that. Those that don't need a better performing camera or the extra RAM shouldn't have to pay for it. Somehow I've managed to get through life on 1GB of RAM in my 6+. Without even noticing it.

As a photographer I do want the dual camera, so will gladly pay the extra $ to get it. The extra 13 cents per day over the two years of use I expect is something I can handle. For those that can't handle that, no worries, Apple still has a phone for you.

Even though this is fake I don't see a problem with Apple having a pro line of phones. It will no doubt sell well, and I'd definitely get an iPhone pro if it had a better screen, front and rear camera, battery and processor over the non pro phones.

If people say Apple is milking and purposely putting old tech or slower tech in their products just to sell a pro line then I guess everyone in the industry is to blame. Everyone who makes computers or phones have different tiers or levels from good to better to best. No reason why Apple can't do it too.
Then Apple will cease to be to company many of us Apple loyalists bought into. They were made the powerhouse they are by a CEO and a wickedly good ad campaign who urged people to "think different". Apple was not meant to be just like everyone else.

Now that they are becoming like that, they are losing their hold on a once loyal customer base. Don't take my word for it, look around, read the articles and the comments from various sources and take it all in.

There is nothing wrong with them offering different sized devices. Many forum members have already posted very eloquently here and on other threads how that could be done without making the product line confusing and fragmented. So I won't go into that again here.

Most people want the phone to be thicker so it has more room for battery and to remove the camera bump

While the bump (or antenna lines) is insignificant for most users . (Hello case!)
the button change was not.

It was way better to have the power button on the top.
Logical and better in the hand.

Battery? Well, my 6DS plus shines in that department.
Slimy, slippery shape. Yes, but again : Hello case!

From what I've read, "most people" have an obsession with Ive.

Couldn't care less about Ive, would rather Apple design better new products and if he's lost it then pension him off, nothing in the last couple of years from Apple has been particularly great while the competition has been moving rapidly forwards. I could say "in my opinion" but you have to be pretty hardcore Apple to think otherwise...

Still, rather than discuss the point I made it's always easier to deflect.

New phone will have

- better camera
- faster processor
- faster graphics

Then Phil SHILLer will show it compared to the original iPhone and say how the new iPhone is 50X faster. So it will be like every other event. Nothing to see

Lies. If by "most people" you mean the posters on MR, who in their supreme arrogance think that they speak for the entire population of iPhone buyers, then I agree.

If you mean actual iPhone buyers then you're wrong. As history has shown year after year after year.

No, more like intelligent people think otherwise.

Yes, very easy to play the superiority card isn't it? Again, no response to the actual points I'd made, typical politicians answer when presented with a point they can't easily argue.

Maybe MacRumors could do a poll - Do people like the new, leaked iPhone 7 design or would they prefer it thicker with a flush camera and larger battery. The results might be a surprise for some...

Imagine having a high end CPU and GPU wasted on a low resolution display. I formally introduce the iPhone 7.

Everyone seems to mention Ive obsessively, though the whole industry seems to be working toward thinner, lighter devices.

Some startup could come out with a thick, heavy phone and immediately capture a huge part of the market.

I miss Steve Jobs and regret not being an Apple iPhone fan early on (I blame not having the phone on Verizon for this). I never believed in the "one size fit's all" and was a Android fanboi because of it. But the stuff I'm seeing right now makes no sense at all. I expect this from Android OEM's but not from Apple. 2 sizes maybe 3, fine. But all the phones should have all the same specs with the exception of screen size, resolution and battery size. Even if the large model comes with Apple Pencil support it should be included (similar to what the Note series does for iPhone).
I just know that there is clearly a change at Apple and it's not for the best. All I know is that Steve Jobs wouldn't put the iPhone (and iPad) into this situation. Even the Mac lineup wouldn't be in the situation that it's in now. Heck, Steve would have a new game changing device by now.

Oh, my, it's so easy to switch!

Don't think you realize how entrenched some people are...

Will I’ll still be able to FaceTime with my friends who have iPhones?
Will all my App purchases will transfer so I don’t have to re-purchase?
Will my texts show up on my iPads and Macs too, and I can still text from those devices?
Will new music I purchase on my Mac via iTunes will automatically show up?
Will Movies I purchased from iTunes transfer?
Will my contacts are automatically synced to my iPads and Macs?
Will my Safari bookmarks are automatically synced between all my devices?
Will my iCloud Key Chain transfer and sync with my new Android device?
Do Numbers and Pages have Android versions and automatically sync with my iPads and Macs and provide handoff capability?

you get the idea….
Not so easy when as he said when you are entrenched into the Apple Ecosystem. :)

Low resolution display? Really. The iPhone 6S+ resolution is 401 ppi. How much resolution do you need? Would 800 ppi be enough and make you happy? 4,000 ppi?

I expect the iPhone 7 display to actually be much better in other areas, using tech from the recently released 9.7" iPad Pro, whose display was highly rated by DisplayMate.

Also, you may not know that a faster/better CPU and GPU benefit the phone far beyond moving display pixels around.

The 6S has 326 points however. An upgrade to QHD for the Plus would be noticeable and people don't seem to want to go higher as there is no noticeable difference after that. That's around 550ppi I believe.

Still hoping for a 4" one hand friendly phone with the top specs...
they will probably do what they did with the SE. release these now, then release the Smaller one in March. on paper it makes their over all sales for the year look much better and doesnt take attention away form these being currently released.

I did, they said that they are "very likely" mockups. They are without a doubt mockups! My reply said why are people considering these to have any chance of being real. That also includes readers.
Are you new to macrumors? As much as we dont want it to be true, these are the next iPhone models.

Its a mock up but thats what it will look like. Basically an iPhone 6 with redesigned antenna bands. Sad.
Just saw the new Samsung Note 7 & Holy crap, they are kicking Apple's ass. I held off for years but finally making the switch. Maybe I'll switch back when they release iPhone 8. Its really disappointing, I admit I am an Apple fanboy but its undeniable, Apple is falling behind.

I think Apple would have stretched to 4.7" under Steve Jobs but there wouldn't be so many models. I'm guessing they would have reduced or got rid of the camera bump, and there wouldn't be so many iPad models as well.
The main difference would be in Mac however - The abandonment and inconsitant updating of Macs only happened after Steve Jobs, while Tim Cook has been CEO. It's very clear that Tim Cook doesn't have the same passion for the Mac as Steve Jobs.
