4k video is OFF by default.

There goes your main argument that mainstream users will run out of space because of 4k video.

That is not my main argument. I have stated several others you keep ignoring:

- Photos and videos are now larger (12MP and 5MP upgrade, ignoring 4k)
- Live photos are twice as large
- App size can now be 4GB. Really one or two new graphics intensive games to use that beast of a CPU and RAM, that is all you get.
- More apps are giving offline storage options (ie Amazon video) for streaming

Even if its 3:1 ratio that is still MILLIONS of units.

If 16GB was as horrible as you say it is it would not sell out.

And I've been hearing this 16GB banter since iPhone5S. Yet every year the 16GB is the best selling iPhone. Talk is cheap. People vote with their wallet. And wallets are telling us that the 16GB phones still have a large market.

Can you provide proof that 16GB is the best selling iPhone 6 and 6+?

For all those who think Apple should start at 32GB please give me your storage/price tiers:

Should it be:

32/64/128
$650/$750/$850

32/64/128
$500 / $750 / $950 makes more sense as a consumer.. the idea there is currently only a $200 difference between 16GB and 8X more storage makes the 128GB a bargain.

Currently: (rounded up)
16GB = $47 per GB
64GB = $14 per GB
128GB = $7.50 per GB

This seems like a huge shaft for the 16GB users. This makes the 128GB 6.2x cheaper per GB than the 16GB model.

12GB can hold over 2,000 live photos at 12MP. At most a casual user needs to upload his 1,000 or so photo's once every few months. Something they should be doing anyway.

Very few casual users will be buying apps that are 4GB in size.

Downloading Amazon streaming movies is niche.

Again why is this so hard to understand? The casual user does not use the iPhone like you do.

In fact I'm pretty sure there are MILLIONS of users who use the iPhone like a feature phone. But they like it since its super easy to use and easier to communicate with other iPhone users. I know many elderly ones buy iPhone just for the Facetime app by itself

Is this some kind of sick joke?

So you are charging 64GB users $250 for 16GB of additional storage? I mean WTF.

And now you are going to charge 128GB users $100 more than last year for the same amount of memory? Seriously WTF!!!

So that is how you reward your most hardcore users by JACKING up the price big time?

Thats the problem with all the people crying about 16GB. They can't come up with a real solution.

Wrong.

16GB users are getting the best deal looking purely at Apple's cost vs customer price.

64GB users are paying $100 for 48GB of Ram. The price difference between 16GB chip and 64GB is about $5-$10.

The margin Apple makes on 64/128 phones are MUCH higher than the 16GB. So the 16GB is actually the best bang for buck for what you are getting.

Absolutely not! Do you think storage costs that much? No way should they charge $250 for each double of storage.

Actual that is wrong. As usual you are throwing out numbers without any facts. You have no idea how many 16GBs are sold. You still think it is the top selling device, and you are likely wrong.

And let me help your math on photo storage.

I am seeing live photos can be about 10MB each which is .01GB storage per "live photo" storage.

It seems you always have about 12GB free with your new phone

12/.01 = 1200 photos. Not quite the over 2000 you are stating.

I simply don't agree with your logic regarding this. As a consumer I don't care what Apples "costs" are. All I care about is getting a good product, as advertised, with good service. I have no idea what you are referring to in the bold above.

The fact is users are currently paying $47 per GB for the 16GB models vs. $7.50 per GB for the 128 models (full price) - this is more of a sick joke than anything else.

Exactly.

Actually, its not double
32/64/128
$500 / $750 / $950

32GB = $15.62 per GB
64GB = $11.71 per GB
128GB = $7.42 Per GB

Seems reasonable to me.

My bad. Should have been 1,000 photos. Thats still alot of photos.

I basing the 16GB as the most popular based on iPhone averaging selling price of $687

Dude. GB of storage is not the main cost of a phone. You can't charge a phone based on GB alone. That's madness. The bulk of a phone's cost is NOT in the storage. Its in the touch screen and SOC.

And yes I did make an error. I said $250 for 16GB when I should have said $250 for 32GB. That is STILL crazy. How the heck can you charge $250 for 32GB of RAM? Thats nuts.

Thats total and utter insanity.

You can't price the entire phone based on GB.

Even casual shoppers can do simple math and see you are charging $250 for a mere 32GB of ram! Which is INSANE!

And how the hell will you explain to iPhone6 users who want to upgrade their 128GB device that they need to pay $100 MORE this year for the same 128GB? Are you kidding me!!!!

No way man. Your plan is crazy bad.

I agree.. it is nuts, but people will pay it

So you want Apple to do:

32/64/128
$650/$750/$850

Now explain to 64GB users why they got 48GB for $100 and this year they are only getting 32GB. Explain to them why they are getting less GB for the $100 they paid.

Now explain to 128GB users why they got 112GB for $200 but this year they are only getting 96GB.

Why on earth would you punish people for buying the top of the line tiers by giving them LESS INCREMENTAL STORAGE per dollar than last year?

Sorry that plan does not work either. You are screwing the 64/128 buyers.

Yes it is, 32GB > 64GB is double, and 64GB > 128GB is double.

You do realize that the capacity is not what makes up the majority of the cost right? You can't look at a price per GB to determine the cost of the phones as they aren't hard drives or flash drives where that's their sole purpose. Many phone manufacturers are now going with $50 increments between 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, instead of $100 as the costs have come down significantly.

It's a new phone with new features.. better than your old phone.. simple marketing. So you're taking the stance that the $950 premium for the 128 model is too high.. that's fine, I can get behind that.. im just saying based on what consumers are used to paying.. especially for iphones... compared to the $47 per GB for the 16GB is insane.

I agree.. it is nuts, but people will pay it

No they won't. More people will buy the $500 model.

Which is total ******** price for an iPhone. Fricken POS Samsung sells their top end phones for more than $500 and you want Apple to undercut Samsung in price? Are you out of your mind!

Apple only makes 21% profit margin company wide.

So right now they make about $136 on each 16GB iPhone they sell.
$650 x 21% profit margin = $136 in profit
If they sold iPhones at $500 they would make close to ZERO profit. That ridiculous.

It's Apple's fault. Until last year, all capacities were doubles of each other, they should have kept it that way.

I actually think most customers would be happy if the base went to 32GB even if the rest remained the same. Why? Because many users such as myself find 16GB to be too little, but don't need 64GB so they can now function just fine with the 32GB model and save $100. If people need between 32 and 64GB's, the cost and storage is the same as last year, so I don't see how they could be upset as they aren't losing anything.

I don't see how your math even checks out there. You, Warrior2000, said that Apple would lose 3.3 billion in profit offering a 32GB phone as base. The only way that argument checks out is if more users are jumping up to 64GB BECAUSE the minimal offering is too small. I am guessing you got this number from here:

http://www.aboveavalon.com/notes/20...illion-in-2015-by-selling-16gb-iphone-66-plus

As shown in a very detailed breakdown which backs up your initial claim on your 28 page post, the 64GB was predicted to have a 48% market share to support these numbers. One could only speculate that gap is even broader with the 6S. This is exactly what Apple wants to happen.

So why are you talking out of both sides of your mouth? You claim Apple is making all this profit by offering 16GB, yet you still contend it is the best selling phone. I think you are even confusing yourself now.

You are pricing the iPhone likes its a harddrive.

I'm sorry but your 'solution' is worse than the current 16GB 'problem'.

I have yet to see a good solution to the 16GB pricing. Everyone keeps saying its horrible but they can't come up with a better solution that is reasonable.

Make the base 32GB and the rest remain the same, then it will be back in line with what the sizes have been in relation to each other since 2007. Or if Apple is generous, make them 32GB/128GB/256GB.

No they won't. More people will buy the $500 model.

Well then, that may be a problem for Apple, again as a consumer I'm not walking into a Genius and asking.. well If I buy this phone how much profit are you going to make from it.
