this is the new "iPhone Pro" starting at an additional 100$ for no reason cuz new features were always the point of a new iPhone in the past without having to raise the price.

Just look at the iPad "Pro" which lets face it is just an iPad Air 3 really

I hope they do stick with flat, curved has no advantage whatsoever. Why would I want to look at curved pictures or videos?

Indeed, it only has disadvantages - more prone to breaking, no decent screen protectors etc.

My prediction at this point: same general looks as the iPhone 7 with thinner bezel and a slightly thinner case. Prices for AppleCare will likely go up by 10% as replacing the glass back won't come cheap. And because it's thinner, the prices in general will go up 10% as well.

and possible to attach a tempered glass screen protector to.

that.

Iphone 8 will be as follows: more processor performance; less battery life; higher price; no 64 gb model (either get 32 or pay a premium for 128); more emojis. On one hand it won't be exciting enough to convince people to upgrade. On the other hand, iOS 11 will slow down iphones 6 and 6s just enough to make customers want to upgrade. Been there before...

Finally curved screens are disappearing from TV's. A short-lived bad idea. But now they are coming to mobile phones. I wish they wouldn't. I'd rather have a flat screen that is easy to read, and possible to attach a tempered glass screen protector to.

Agree 100% with screen protector.

The curved PC monitors are nice, expecially with the 34 inch ultrawides that are being made. Years ago, when the rumor of curved screens first started, I thought the screen would be concave liek the monitors we have now. This would allow a decrease in the distance your finger had to travel. Not a lot, of course, but enough that it might make a larger screen seem a little easier to handle while still decreasing the likelyhood of it getting scratched when it's placed face down. Instead we get a bubble that makes holding it easier, but using it harder.

The iPhone SE is good, what more would you want in a small phone? Maybe 3D touch? But otherwise it seems pretty awesome to me.

3GB of RAM, A10, 128/256GB storage, bright P3 display with a 1400:1 contrast ratio, improved front camera, 450 Mbps LTE, Quad-LED flash with smaller aperture.

People don't realize what is REALLY happening: Apple is weaning off customers from features. When Apple is done with this process of removing stuff, finally, customers will pay Apple $ 3000 annually (or more) for nothing in return. It's like donations towards fighting cancer. People are happy to pay, they have a good feeling after transferring the money, but they get nothing special in return (defined as the absence of something, like the absence of the head phone jack, MagSafe, SD-Card slot, dual SIM, better battery, etc). Mission accomplished.

I think there is confusion about what "curved screen" is referring to.

Some people are using the term "curved screen" to mean a fully curved screen, like the curved TVs/monitors - like mockup A below, and that old patent.
Others use the term to mean curved at the edges, as already present on some other phones. And like mockup B below.

I think most people agree A looks silly.
And B is okay, but seems pointless. The display being curved at the edges just renders that strip of display distorted and vulnerable to reflections.

And it is also important to distinguish whether you mean the display is curved at the edges, or just the glass.

The glass is already edge-curved on the 6 & 7 series iPhones. That "2.5" thing that is sometimes mentioned.
But the display stops short of the curve.
If the plan for the new iphone is to have the display part also curved at the edges, as well as the glass, then that would look like B above.

I wonder if someone could come up with some better terminology for these different things that all seem to be labelled "curved screen" in reports and posts.? Perhaps "full" or "edged", and "glass", "display" or "both". Rather than just "curved screen" which could mean different things.

curved edges are super bad, its a "non feature". it's really meh.
friend of mine has a Samsung edge for some time now and this feature is just a complete fail.
you cant read internet text on the edges, and unintentional inputs all over the place, especially in landscape mode.
i don't think apple will go this way.

Potesd this in another thread, but this is a video comparing the LG G6 to the 4.7" iPhone 7 with lots keep saying will be the size of the iPhone 8, the G6 has a 5.7" screen and it looks still a bit bigger then the iPhone, so I don't think the iPhone 8 will be the same size as the iPhone 7.

Why are all the sites repeating this 18:9 PR blurb? As is said in the text, 18:9 is the same as 2:1. It is basic maths, reduction to the lowest common denominator! 16:9 can't be reduced further, 18:9 can! Kids are taught this at primary school!

So is there a valid reason to call it 18:9 instead of 2:1?

I mean, there seems like absolutely no point in that at all to me, so I'm wondering if there's some good technical reason.

The reason is very simple, it's easier on the reader. Most tv's, monitors, laptops are 16:9. All current iPhones are 16:9, almost all Android phones are 16:9. So, LG and Samsung are coming up with a new aspect ratio, 18:9 or 2:1. What is easier to compare with the standard we are using now, 16:9? Is it easier to compare 16:9 vs 18:9 to understand the big change on the new phone or 16:9 vs 2:1? A quick glance tells the reader that 18:9 is taller than 16:9. That same glance doesn't work quickly for 16:9 vs 2:1.

Fully agree. Curved screen on Samsung Galaxy edge is gimmick at best. The curved area is not really usable screen space other than having some short cut bars or similar stuck on it. But hey, manufacturers can say they have huge screens even if almost 1" of it distorts the image like crazy. I would love to have a big flat (and usable) screen with no bezels or home buttons.

For me the iPhone SE is currently the most attractive device that Apple offers. Looks great and has all the specs and features that i need in my mobile.
And - much to my surprise - it's reasonably priced, unlike the other iPhones that look like Samsungs these days.

Right or left I think we can all agree that most Apple "leaks" and "rumors" are fake news. Essentially just fantasy ideas for entertainment purposes. Anyone out there thought of starting "MacFacts.com"? It'd have about 90% less fluff.

the so-called 2.5D display (6s semi-curved edges) is great.
love it.
side bezels on 6s are not a problem either. very narrow.
but top and bottom bezels: i would love these bezel areas to become clickable screen space.
put camera, proximity sensor, mic, and home button into the screen / below the screen itself.

but please, apple, please dont reduce battery life.

i prefer lightning, but can take usb-c.

dont need wireless charging unless its really ready and really useful and likely to become a universal standard not just a proprietary standard for apple.

make it a hardware year, and just perfect the same software as currently in latest version.

Case in point being the Apple television set that turned out to be pure vapourware and nothing else.
But the iPhone rumours are usually more reliable as it's all any of the analysts care about.

Please Apple... no curved (touch sensitive) displays on any of your phones. And the side bezels need to be black because all the curved glass does is pick up reflections which makes it very distracting when viewing the phone in a lighted area.

Haha DOH! ofc it wont have curved display
U ppl really think they would copy samsung making the iphone look like an galaxy s7-s8
not!!!

Sorry to be that guy...but I believe you mean combination and not permutation because the order of the objects in the set doesn't matter.
You are right, combination is the correct term I should have used here. Although it a strict mathematical sense it isn't really a combination or a permutation, as we are selecting one from each category, you can't select 4.7" screen size and also select 5.8" screen size.*

* unless the iPhone 8 has two screens, one one front and one on the back :)

I wish someone wound just leak some high quality photos of the iPhone 8, so that all these different different rumors cease.
I feel mixed about that. Sure we consume rumors, but part of me feels nostalgic for the days when we were excitedly surprised. At least there's no consensus yet. Conspiracy theorists (and they're coming out of the woodwork these days) may wonder if Apple agents themselves are muddying the rumor waters.

How about a flagship small phone one of these days?

This, squared.

It's very slightly longer, but has no side bezels.... but still pretty wide too & bottom ones.
