Watch still lasting til 23:00 even with a 40 minute workout...so will do

how is peoples battery life when without your phone in cellular?
ABYSMAL- I am on my second SS series 5 because the first on cellular was loosing 60% per hour and the second is not really any better. I exercise indoors and play music stored on the watch with phone left at home. sort of like what the LTE version is supposed to be for?
I think there is a real issue with the modems in the Series 5 draining huge amounts if you re in a weak cell are like an indoor gym.
People on this forum encouraged me to swap out the unit as it was so bad but the new one which is 3 days old drained 45% in 50 mins today.
I am really disappointed as I love the series 5 and it’s great if you don’t exercise.

B2 battery life was great, I was losing about 1-2% an hour and if I did an hour workout then only 4-5% - just gone to B3 today....losing 10-12% per hour. So far 3 hours standby...2 hrs 56 mins usage! Done a hard reset and a reboot of the iphone too. Hoping this is just bedding in.

This is kinda depressing to read. I can just about make a day on 6.0.1.
Was really hoping that 6.1 brought me back near to my series 3 timeframes of need to charge.
My concerns is it’s all good now-but imagine in a year when battery has degraded a bit? Whilst I don’t anticipate hanging on to my series 5 forever, it’s a SS model and I would like to hold on to it for about 3 years give or take, before needing to upgrade.

Fingers crossed Apple sorts it out.

Currently have 10 hours off the charger with 56% left so I think it should manage the 15-16 hour mark which will do for me

Add me to the number of watchOS 6.1 users who has seen his series 5 get much better battery life. I’m estimating about an additional 5-7 hours of additional use on a single charge.

That’s encouraging!

anyone else want to chime in with good news?

Ok that’s disappointing, BUT I guess at least it does indicate that this battery drain business is software based and not a hardware issue.

Yep defo. On B1 & B2 I was getting about 35 hours standby with a good 90 mins of exercise everyday - 30-40 mins of that outside on Cellular.

I was going to re-pair, but think I will wait until next beta to see if it improves or the actual release.

Thanks for sharing.

Is it true that installing a beta on AW is a one way street? Is it difficult to do?

i ask as I’m coming to the end of my 2 week return window for my watch. I’d love to keep it, but can’t justify it at the moment with the poor battery performance (I’m coming from a series 3).

It is a one way street unfortunately - and you need a developer account to get the profile (paid for one).

I would hang in as I was getting great battery life (although not series 3, but better than my series 4) and I am 99% sure it will be sorted in software. YMMV, but if you are accustomed to charging once a day/day and a bit, you'll be fine.

Will do. Anecdotally it seems 6.1 is the ticket. Really appreciate the input. Thanks a ton.

What?!

General
There are no release notes for this software update.

It works now

Build Number: 17S5076a

I'll download the iOS beta first then let you know

EDIT: Dev site up and down, so may wait a bit for someone else to brick their phone and watch 🙂

That “a” on the build number suggests its release could possibly be imminent: next week perhaps?

FYI, you can still return a watch that is on a beta. The Apple store doesn’t care which OS is on it.

Managed to get mine installed too...with no iPhone as unbeknown to me it was off as I updated it and always turn it off and on and again and forgot to turn back on, so that means the watch can be updated independently.
