There is no 5.5" phone.

^ This

At 5.5" the device loses its "phone" generalization and becomes a small tablet with calling capabilities. As someone mentioned above, if you see it as that then the size goes away. I had a Note 3 for a while, and went with the normal 6 because I wanted a Phone, I already had an rMini for my productivity.

I actually have both versions of these phones. I've been using my Plus since launch day but I decided to try the regular version today. It was nice being able to text one handed but I then realized something. I started with a 100% battery charge and that dropped to 99% within 5 minutes of using the phone. 1% for 5 minutes might not be a big deal. However I can play with my Plus phone for almost 20 minutes before I lose 1% battery. That was my instant deal breaker. The regular version of this phone is getting returned.

Considered from the perspective of computing power the iPhone and many of its competitors have been this for years. The Plus just has a bigger screen. Steve Jobs himself intended to call it Safari Pad, not iPhone, so the only reason we even think of it as a phone at all really comes down to little more than marketing. Since it's first generation the i"Phone" has been used by people as a browser and game/messaging platform FAR more than a telephone. It's a hand computer. Always has been.

It's obnoxiously large, for a phone. I think a lot of people who get their 6+ are going to be disappointed whether they admit it or not. I'm glad I ordered just the 4.7" which will arrive in the next few hours via UPS

I'm one of those people that is on the fence about it. I didn't think it was going to be that big. I went with a friend of mine to order hers and after playing with the 6, I was having buyers regrets.

The battery thing. People need to remember that iOS 8 is still in version .0

iOS 7 didn't become remotely decent until 7.1

I expect batt life to improve once apps are optimised and 8.1 is released.

There's a large range above 100% where your phone actually has extra charge. This is done in UI so that the phone can trickle charge and cycle power higher and lower while being plugged in for a long time, and yet not confuse the user by dropping to 95% and charging back to 100% while still plugged in.

In other words, you have to watch the phone actually drain, not just when it drops away from 100%.

I ordered both the 6 and the 6 plus and have carried both for a day in my pocket etc...

I do find I like the 6 plus more and I don't reach for an iPad when surfing the web on the couch because its good enough if that makes sense.

I am not a skinny jeans kinda guy but if you are the 6 plus might not be for you.

iPhone users have been using a much smaller device for years and it is much more of an adjustment switching over for something smaller.

I have not been a fan of the 6 plus on long walks in running shorts and obviously preferred the 6 over the plus.

I am 6'2 and no issues with the plus but was scared to death of dropping it. I have a Zagg on it now and a ok case until Mophie comes out with something. Hopefully it will have a better headphone solution but that is a topic for another thread.

Disagree. I think tablets are going to continue to canibalize laptops. Most people don't ever need a laptop anymore.

That's what everyone predicted 3 years ago. By now, it's safe to say that it didn't happen and we can stop making those claims. Tablet sales are on the decline and laptop sales are up.

Seems like a lot of tall people got the six plus and there are a lot of shorter people trying to say that it's impossible to use comfortably. I'd like for those people to walk a mile in my shoes. Literally. Walk a mile in my size 15's. You'll start to understand how different sizes make sense to different people. Not many things are one size fits all, phones included.

Of course tablets cannibalized laptop and CPU sales. Where have you been?

I don't think tablets are going to REPLACE laptops, but cannibalization has definitely occurred. And remember, tablets (as a category) are still in its infancy (the past 3 full years).

In fact, it seems like tablets will finally surpass sales of laptops in the very near future

Saturday I got a real test of my 6 and one handed use watching college football. Was using the 6 basically all day on message boards and checking scores.

On Sunday I could feel some strained tendons in my hand and started using two hands for many functions. I'm still hoping my hand will adjust to the new moves. The phone is the right size and I can reach everything but it still seems to strain some normally unused areas in my hand.

I am constantly toggling between my IP5s and my mini. I love the mini and used to take it along in my purse but it got to be too much. I'm hoping the 6+ will allow me to just have one well-loved device to keep up with...and hoping the Apple watch will be a perfect sidekick to the larger phone.

I think the iP6+ will be exactly what you are looking for. I was the same with taking my iP5 and my iPad rMini with me most places since I liked the larger screen for reading my kindle app or surfing the web, watching movies, etc... But would use my phone for GPS, text, calls, quickly checking email, phone calls (barely used it for this function though), music. I think the iP6+ will definitely cover the middle ground for me for larger than my iP5 and smaller than my rMini for most daily requirements. Now I can leave the rMini home more often.

Yes, that's what I noticed when I played with the 6+ and 6. I have huge hands, but I do not have pianist hands with extra-long fingers either.

The 6+ is just too big to use with one hand. You can hold it fine with one hand, you can touch the side of the screen with one hand. So you can read without problem. But you can't interact with it with one hand.
On the other hand, the 6 is tricky. It feels like you can use it with one hand. But it's still very hard to reach the top of the screen - and you have a lot of functions you need all the time at the top of the screen on iOS. Also, you can reach the opposite side of the screen, but you have to strain your thumb. So, the 6 looks like you can use it with one hand, but it's not really comfortable. If you have both hands free, you will just use if with both hands, because it feels better...

This is getting me to reconsider. The main advantage of the 6 is one-handed use, the 6+ has anything else: big screen, more autonomy, split view... If you're going to use both two-handed anyway, might as well get the 6+...

It's interesting that you should say that. I find that I'm able to perform most functions with one hand on my 6 Plus, except the crucial one of going back. Even with Reachability, I can't reach the back button on most apps without repositioning my hand.

But then I consider the fact that I wouldn't have been able to do it on the 6 anyway, and that I could just barely do it on the 4S's 3.5" screen. So in some cases having small hands has actually prepared me better for transitioning to the 6 Plus.

Apart from not being able to reach the back button, the only other complaint I have about the 6 Plus's size is that I can't sit, squat, or lean over when wearing certain pants.

It's not the best for one-handed use, but I feel like the increased utility is worth the tradeoff.

I just handled the Plus at the AT&T store. I may need to get the 6. The Plus may be unwieldy for me in the long run, though nice at first, but will become a PITA after while.

I see a lot of people on here returning the Plus and going for the 6. Backpedal say what?

stopped by the fort lauderdale store today, two employees told me they are seeing no returns to speak of on the 6 plus, and plenty of people that want to know when they can get a 6+ to replace their new 6....

backpeddle my a$$....

People are returning it both ways. The split is likely 50/50 on sales which is why people waver and why there is debate. If there was one clear winner it would not be up for discussion.

Am leaning toward keeping my 6 based on my usage. I thought 6+ could replace the ipad but it really cant for serious use.

I swapped the 6 plus for the 6 after 2 days. I am 6'1" with average size hands and fingers. It was just too unwieldy for me, and I do not like two handing my phone.

The 6 is the perfect size IMHO.

There's just no way that sales are 50:50. Production of 6 Plus units has lagged behind 6 units so a 50:50 split of actual iPhones simply doesn't exist.
