He'll have to confirm, but from my experience the glass protectors are only .1mm. Shouldn't be an issue.

Oh ok. I guess I was under the impression glass screen protectors were much thicker than regular ones. I'm probably wrong.

The defender works great with the glass no problems whatsoever!

I had ordered and received my otterbox defender before I even attempted to get my 6plus. I found my silver 128 at an Apple Store in Tampa last night put it in the case and immediately hated the plastic screen cover due to lack of sensitivity. When I got home I popped out the screen protector, it took a little solvent ( charcoal lighter fluid) to get all the glue off, washed it with soap and water and now it's clean as could be. Went to Best buy got Zagg glass and it's a perfect fit. Never had a glass protector before and I must say it's the best screen protector I've ever used. Awesome! Otterbox is great too.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I wanted to chime in about my Defender experience/ see what others were doing.

Your experience with the built in screen protector mirrors mine EXACTLY. There is a strange lack of sensitivity and the touch-id barely works.

I called Otterbox and they are sending me a new plastic case. I am not optimistic it will resolve the issue.

As far as functionality, If I replace the built in screen protector with a Zagg product (glass or otherwise), how will it change the functionality of the defender? I am super clumsy and drop my phone at the gym all the time. I would hate to shatter the screen, nick it, etc.

Thoughts?

I HIGHLY suggest the ZAGG HDX. Not only does it protect from scratches, but it has shatter protection as well.

I don't understand why people would buy a $70 plus case and modify it and spent another 30 or so on a screen protector. If I'm spending $70 plus on a case I expected to be top quality and for me not to do any modification since I'm paying a good chunk of money. But to each its own I guess

It is silly, yea. But I've done it since having the iPhone 4 and never regretted it. For some reason I always loved the feel of the defender, but hated the hard protector. Switching the protector out for your own gives a lot of us the "best of both worlds". It's awesome drop protection, yet it has the screen feel/sensitivity we desire.

Paying for peace of mind

Keep in mind, the Lifeproof NUUD (no screen protector included) is $99.

So why would I spend $70 ($60 if I buy a "stock" version at Best Buy) on a case to then take off the screen protector it comes with and buy my own? Because I like to do what works.

I'm putting an incredibly expensive piece of equipment into it that I bring with me everywhere and drop probably once a month. Since I've NEVER! (knock on wood) had a screen or a phone break when dropped in an Otterbox, it's an investment. Also, when the time comes to sell the phone, it's in pristine condition.

One last thing, when you buy Otter, you buy the warranty. I've had cases break and NO QUESTIONS ASKED they send you a replacement piece. I've had NUMEROUS (can count on TWO hands) replacements sent FREE OF CHARGE.

Simply, you're paying for peace of mind.

Defender offers some of the best drop protection but the plastic screen protector is crap. Replace that with a glass screen protector and you've got a damn good case. Yeah, it's pricey but if you drop your phone even once in 2 years the odds are good it's going to pay for itself.

A lot of people pay $10 a month for "insurance." That ends up costing way more over 2 years.

Got the defender in a little while ago. Popped the screen out and a little goo gone and it was ready to go.

Very impressed. Yes it's bulky but it's lighter than I thought and not much thicker than the pelican protector. Will be in NYC tomorrow so going to see how this holds up.

Does it make the phone MORE or LESS "one hand able"

Besides "carefully," how do you remove the plastic protector off the Defender? Would rubbing alcohol do the trick in getting rid of the "goo?"

Straight razor and then alcohol or goof off, yes.

Equal to the pelican and slightly bigger than the UAG. Will post pics in a few minutes

In your opinion, does it make it an exclusively two handed device?

I used goo gone. 5-7 minutes and I was good. Washed it after and it was like it was never there

Truly depends on hand size. For me it's still one handed

So after all my back and forth, I think I'm going to stick with Otter in the end.

BTW: Gunmetal Grey slip with white shell is available again.

Are people still having issues where the membrane for the TouchID is still leaving marks on the iPhone's screen?
